I'm currently driving a 2018 F205 Diesel for personal use and I love the low end torque. No need to floor it to feel the speed and power. I also drive a 2019 F250 6.2 gasser and it just doesn't have any low end torque. So it's a little slow and not too fun to drive, I mean you have to floor it to feel some power. That being said, do you think the 7.3 Godzilla is a fun engine to drive like a diesel? I know it won't pull like a diesel but I'm wondering if it's fun for normal in the city driving like a diesel.

The 6.8 sounds like a good option. Eventually the aftermarket is going to love boosting them. The shorter stroke means less piston speed so less load on the rotating assembly. I wonder of the heads are the same as the 7.3. 415 ci is still a very reasonable amount of displacement to work with. Id like to drive one

These 7.3s are going to be amazing when they get all the bugs 100% worked out. The lifter issues still have me apprehensive of the 7.3 Godzilla at this point. Would make a great option for most who aren't towing daily but have a large RV or equipment to move and don't want to deal with new diesels emissions (can't make them disappear easily in many states). The 7.3 has been swapped into a 1965 Shelby A/C cobra and it's insane!

I'd like to grab one of these also but as you mentioned there is reports of lifter/cam issues. Here's what I get from that. It's a very small percentage of trucks that run into that issue. They say it's more so the rv's and box trucks that have that issue. Idling for long periods was all mentioned as they don't get enough oil pressure. I also heard it's mainly the trucks that were built in the covid era as the supply chain was messed up and Ford had to source parts from different manufacturers. I was actually at a local Ford super duty shop today and I spoke to the service manager about that issue. He claims he has never had a f250 come through the doors with those issues. Now the 10 speed transmission issue some people are having is a different story. I think a lot of that has to do with the tuning. And apparently in 24 Ford changed some stuff in the transmission so maybe it's resolved now. Ford sure does have tyranny issues tho. I have a mt82 in my Mustang. So far it's been good to me but it gets a lot hate. Same thing with the 10r80 that are in those cars. Once people start putting more power to the ground they start having issues.

@@lobbyrobby your info sounds spot on from my understanding. I had a mt82 in a mustang as well, a 2014 track pack. Good car and the trans was fine for everything but speed shifting. I even had a ford racing short throw shifted. You had to be very careful crossing the gate because the trans rocked when you shifted and the distance to the next gear would change. I should have kept that car it was a fun daily

My car is boosted but I'm only at 600whp because of shitty 91 octane. And yes, I said only lol. The supercharger kit is capable of much more. In all honesty tho 600 whp is perfect for a fun street car. When it's cold out the car really struggles for traction anyway and I have zero desire to run a drag pack.

Totally unnecessary if not useless. Just adding more maintenance and failure points. For a boosted, DGI only engine you can make a case for one. For a relatively low compression, port injected NA motor, adding a catch can is a case of “if it ain’t broke, fix it until it breaks”

I find it hilarious that Ford guys for the last 30 years have absolutely trashed pushrod engines because Ford had abandoned them. The moment Ford announced the 7.3, they suddenly gushed over the idea of a pushrod V8 truck engine again. I think it's great that Ford admitted the error of their ways. Pushrod V8's are excellent for low end torque, fuel efficiency, and reliability. The issues that some guys have had with this engine, I believe, are due to excessive idle time -- lifters don't get as much lubrication when the engine is at warm idle. Don't let the engine sit there idling for 30+ minutes.

And the 99 has close to 200k and runs rough but we barely drive it. We just use it to hook up to a water trailer and we drive it maybe 100 miles a year. I prefer simplicity over new modern comfort. The newest vehicle I have is a 2013 f150 5.0 regular cab. The other two is a 1986 bronco 351 and 1994 f350 7.3IDIT. My 13 only has cruise control and Bluetooth radio for fancy features. The other two trucks might not be as reliable as the 13 once I get them road worthy but should something break I can probably fix it on the side of the road unless it’s a massive failure. The 13 has computers and such that could fail and that’s not something I can really tackle away from home.

I havent owned a 6.2. As far as i know they are very reliable. I know they suffer from small displacement. I think they are 376 inches. Liters with one decimal places covers 4-5 cubic inches so its not as exact as it could be. Anyway they dont make alot of torque below 4000 rpm. Where the 7.3 makes boat loads of torque below 4k rpm and frankly you can drive this engine from idle to 2000 rpm as a norm even when towing. So i think the 6.2 has alot of merit. It will get the job done but there is no doubt in my mind 7.3 both out tows it and out runs it. Ford did a good job spec wise with this engine. They gave it what it needed to perform well. I dont believe there is a production gas engine that will out tow it. And its a good daily driver engine too. It feels about as peppy as one would want/expect.
