----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Despite centuries of evidence proving otherwise, there is an alarming number of people around the world who genuinely believe that the earth is flat. Bill Nye The Science Guy, NASA astronomer Michelle Thaller, and Neil deGrasse Tyson strongly disagree.
From simple experiments like standing at a seashore or looking through a telescope at other planets, to reading about navigation or viewing photos of Earth taken from space, the scientists share several ways that flat Earthers can see the truth for themselves.
Tyson explains why this trend doesn't qualify as a scientific debate and why it is actually dangerous for people to believe and, even worse, pass on these objectively false ideas.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NEIL DEGRASSE TYSON:
Neil deGrasse Tyson was born and raised in New York City where he was educated in the public schools clear through his graduation from the Bronx High School of Science. Tyson went on to earn his BA in Physics from Harvard and his PhD in Astrophysics from Columbia. He is the first occupant of the Frederick P. Rose Directorship of the Hayden Planetarium. His professional research interests are broad, but include star formation, exploding stars, dwarf galaxies, and the structure of our Milky Way. Tyson obtains his data from the Hubble Space Telescope, as well as from telescopes in California, New Mexico, Arizona, and in the Andes Mountains of Chile.Tyson is the recipient of nine honorary doctorates and the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal. His contributions to the public appreciation of the cosmos have been recognized by the International Astronomical Union in their official naming of asteroid "13123 Tyson".
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BILL NYE:
Bill Nye, scientist, engineer, comedian, author, and inventor, is a man with a mission: to help foster a scientifically literate society, to help people everywhere understand and appreciate the science that makes our world work. Making science entertaining and accessible is something Bill has been doing most of his life.
In Seattle Nye began to combine his love of science with his flair for comedy, when he won the Steve Martin look-alike contest and developed dual careers as an engineer by day and a stand-up comic by night. Nye then quit his day engineering day job and made the transition to a night job as a comedy writer and performer on Seattle’s home-grown ensemble comedy show “Almost Live.” This is where “Bill Nye the Science Guy®” was born. The show appeared before Saturday Night Live and later on Comedy Central, originating at KING-TV, Seattle’s NBC affiliate.
Nye is the host of three currently-running television series. “The 100 Greatest Discoveries” airs on the Science Channel. “The Eyes of Nye” airs on PBS stations across the country.
Bill’s latest project is hosting a show on Planet Green called “Stuff Happens.” It’s about environmentally responsible choices that consumers can make as they go about their day and their shopping. Also, you’ll see Nye in his good-natured rivalry with his neighbor Ed Begley. They compete to see who can save the most energy and produce the smallest carbon footprint. Nye has 4,000 watts of solar power and a solar-boosted hot water system. There’s also the low water use garden and underground watering system. It’s fun for him; he’s an engineer with an energy conservation hobby.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MICHELLE THALLER:
Dr. Michelle Thaller is an astronomer who studies binary stars and the life cycles of stars. She is Assistant Director of Science Communication at NASA. She went to college at Harvard University, completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena, Calif. then started working for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory's (JPL) Spitzer Space Telescope. After a hugely successful mission, she moved on to NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), in the Washington D.C. area. In her off-hours often puts on about 30lbs of Elizabethan garb and performs intricate Renaissance dances. For more information, visit solarsystem.nasa.gov/people/1...

BILL NYE: Is the earth flat or round? It's round, okay. Now, let's see. How do we go about proving that?
MICHELLE THALLER: That's a hard thing for me to even start talking about because there are so many proofs that the earth is round it's difficult...

This was a terrible video that didn't even mention the two main indisputable evidences of a spherical Earth that flatearthers can easily verify for themselves. 1) The Moon flipping upside down when we travel from one hemisphere to the other. 2) Two counter-rotating celestial poles. No flatearther has EVER been able to explain those two simple things, and for such prominent so called 'science educators' to not even mention them in this vid means that they have badly failed in their primary aim. And for the woman to say that she 'didn't even know where to start' was just downright unprofessional. No wonder there are so many flerfers in the US if these are the best 'educators' over there. And their condescending attitude will only alienate flerfers even more.

It is a force that pulls everything towards its center. That is why dropped objects, like car keys and microphones for example, fall 'down'. Children get this, but grown adults are having trouble with this concept. So much so, that they are denying everything that they have been taught and would rather believe a crackpot idea spouted by a tattoo artist instead of every scientist who ever lived. They sky is the only thing that moves. We do not. We are stationary. (The sky is just a light show) it gives us an illusion of a universe. To conclude, we live in a highly sophisticated construct that is not real. Yet, our central nervous system is jacked in to make this feel real. Nasa, and any other organization or “celebrity” is working with what you ppl call Aliens. They have been here way before humans were. They are not from space like they want you to think. They live underneath you. They are who control the elites. They have signed the contract to have extravagant lifestyles and doing so, has left them stuck here. This world, isn’t what you think it is. All you have to do, is research. And follow the money trails and the last names who run everything. We are slaves and you do not even know it. Flat earth belief is a deliberate rejection of the Science that they fear is trying to disprove God and they are the true believers who have to fight against everything non-'biblical' to retain the 'Truth' of God and their bible. The world is currently fighting a war, one promoted by and practiced/fought by certain sections of christian cults including many 'evangelicals' who are convinced the world is being controlled by Satan and their duty as christians is to counter what they see as evil by any and all means possible. Trump is playing these people to do his bidding and pretending to be on their side. The cults are happy to be played as they think Trump is 'one of them'. People of science have to fight back and show this quackery for what it truly is.

As I started travelling to places of a more southern latitude, I noticed that hour I was used to became shorter. When the sun sets on the equator it just goes black immediately. Even day and night make no sense on the flat earth model. They show this model where the sun (supposedly very near inside their imaginary dome) is on one side of their flat earth and the moon on the other (which of course is ridiculous when the moon is clearly visible during the day sometimes, but not always, yet strangely that never happens to the sun, despite being many magnitudes brighter), so what is going on with sunsets when only half the sun is visible on the horizon? And why does the sun only illuminate half the earth? All logic says that nighttime wouldn’t exist on a flat earth. The problem with the flat earth model (to the extent one exists) is that it has more holes than a colander.

It's a Christianity based theory because they didn't know how do describe the unknown. EDITED HERE because Christians are chomping my rump...ffs. Yes it is a Theory, one that the Flat Earth Cult, has based upon the words of, and the devout followers of Christianity. It preys upon SOME of the followers that are weak-minded enough, to fall for their Cult's theory. It is not CREATED BY Christianity, backed by Christianity. But, Christianity most CERTAINLY is used by the Flat Earth Cult to feed their fire with the words in the Bible. Every Christian that reads this, comes at me, and I have to explain. It doesn't matter where the Flat Earthers are on this planet, because the internet is Global, every country has people with access to the internet, that have become victims of the Cult. The entire Cult most certainly USES the words in the Bible, to fortify their beliefs. The Cult, preys upon the faithful, and lures them in by quoting scripture. They take the Bible as true fact word-for-word, and we all know the Bible is just stuffed to the gills with hyperbole, metaphors, and parables. So let's not aim the daggers of blame and insinuation at me here, you have the facts. Don't make assumptions and attack me, because you don't have enough knowledge on this topic. There is more land as well, as seen from the moon's surface, which is (our surface) reflected back at us. The lighter land mass with the craters are the oceans. With craters at the bottom sea and ocean floors. The other land masses have been secretly explored. We are not floating in a vacuum of space. We and the other planets are more like islands in large bodies of water, ether, hydrogen, and ice. With the same atmospheres that the round earth uses. But a semi circle over us. I find it astonishing that people just believe what they are told in school blindly without question in an attempt by the Rockerfella foundation that paid for all our books and atlases in every single classroom with a label under them stating that it is not for educational purposes That you would question your fellow God loving and Fearing Brothers and sisters that have come back to our Lord and Saviour because of this revelation of truth setting us all free Wr cannot have it both ways We can only serve 1 creator Big Bang BS that is also Darwinism where everything magically created itself from nothing Or that we are all one, by intelligent design and given life by our creator as per Genesis Do yourself a favour... Realise that Flat earth is pictured in Bibles, Ancient works and civilisations that were far more advanced than we are now and give them credit for not being as stupid as we are not to know where we live, who we are or how we got here... Because that my friend is the most niave a man or woman could ever be... We do not live on a smarties tube? Where all we can see on a coast line from left to right is a dead flat and level horizontal horizon level where we allegedly go over this tube they say is some kind of sphere... When you get a high powered camera, or telescope we can just zoom back in again when there is supposed to be 100's and even 1000's of feet in some observations that is missing of alledged curvature between you and the object or ship you are looking at the hull of again... Deep down, I do not believe you are stupid or dumb and are quite capable of proving that their globe is a flat out lie yourself like I did... You will be angry of course, nobody likes being lied to their entire lives, but your anger will be where it deserve to be, at those that lied to you, and like me, they will never ever be able to lie and get away with it again... Good luck, and remember, the easiest experiment to do and disprove the globe is by defeating the globe models earth curvature. But you know in your heart, we do not move, water at rest always lays level, the stars rotate us and never deform after 1000's of years of allegedly going lunatic speeds in their imaginary universe and God is watching from above on his throne upon a sapphire stone 👍🏻🍻 Keeping our departed loved ones close to his side ✝️

Of course, 3D spheres always appear to be perfectly round when viewed from any angle, but so are 2D disks when viewed exactly face (not edge) on. Don't get me wrong, I certainly do believe the sun, the earth and the moon are spheres. But an argument that a Flat Earther could make (all other evidence aside) is that the moon could be a disk that is tidally locked to the earth - so that it always shows its perfectly round flat face when we look at it from earth.

Based on historical evidence Jesus wasn’t born in AD 1 but rather sometime between 6 and 4 BC. This discrepancy is due to the fact that the _Anno Domini_ system wasn’t devised until over five centuries after Jesus’ time. Since there was no universal way of reckoning the passage of calendrical time back then, Dionysius Exiguus got his timeline mixed up a bit. We use the CE/BCE system to be gracious to those who do not share our faith.

@Hey Girl I Like Your Kitchen Romania Thats absolute bullshit because the “99%” proposition came after Exxon and other oil companies paid millions of dollars in a wide “most scientists disagree on climate change” misinformation campaign. “The American Meteorological Society (AMS) issued this position statement: "Scientific evidence indicates that the leading cause of climate change in the most recent half century is the anthropogenic increase in the concentration of atmospheric greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2), chlorofluorocarbons, methane, tropospheric ozone, and nitrous oxide." (Adopted April 15, 2019) The American Geophysical Union (AGU) issued this position statement: "Human-induced climate change requires urgent action. Humanity is the major influence on the global climate observed over the last 50 years. Rapid societal responses can significantly lessen negative outcomes." (Reaffirmed in November 2019) The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) What We Know site states: "Based on the evidence, about 97 percent of climate scientists agree that human-caused climate change is happening.”” “These scientific organizations have not issued statements in a void; they echo the findings of individual papers published in refereed scientific journals. The Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) maintains a database of over 8,500 peer-reviewed science journals, and multiple studies of this database show evidence of overwhelming agreement among climate scientists. In 2004, science historian Naomi Oreskes published the results of her examination of the ISI database in the journal Science. She reviewed 928 abstracts published between 1993 and 2003 related to human activities warming the Earth's surface, and stated, "Remarkably, none of the papers disagreed with the consensus position." This finding hasn't changed with time. In 2016, a review paper summarized the results of several independent studies on peer-reviewed research related to climate. The authors found results consistent with a 97-percent consensus that human activity is causing climate change. Probably the most definitive assessments of global climate science come from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Founded by the United Nations in 1988, the IPCC releases periodic reports, and each major release includes three volumes: one on the science, one on impacts, and one on mitigation. Each volume is authored by a separate team of experts, who reviews, evaluates, and summarizes relevant research published since the prior report. Each IPCC report undergoes several iterations of expert and government review. The 2007 IPCC report, for instance, received some 90,000 comments, and each comment received an individual response.”

Logically, no matter how high up we'd get, we never see the blackness of space but only the never ending surface of earth. On most FE maps, parts of Australia are within a couple hundred, maybe 1000 miles of the ice wall and thus edge of earth. So, SOMEONE should be able to float a camera on a weather balloon up 20-25 miles (which is regularly done anyway), and there is no question theyd be high enough to see a distance of 1000 miles + from where they live in every direction. Thus the wall and everything beyond it (should there be anything) would absolutely be visible. They can't do it though. Because we know what would happen.

Why......... - just saying. Think about what is behind the belief in "Flat Earth" = "religion". So it frankly does not matter "what" the concept is being applied to. For people to believe in a theistic worldview already presupposes acceptance of "magical thinking" - in that case applied to "divine beings" and supposed miracles. Ergo why would it therefore come as a surprise that the same assumptive beliefs are simply taken a step further to discount the entirety of our reality vis a vis the nature of our planet to cling to a "literalist" view of the world based upon ancient beliefs. If you base your worldview on claims dating to millennia ago when people would be by today's standards marginally literate then finding people who today claim the Earth is flat is simply = "more of the same". There reality begin and ends with their imaginations driven by their desire to believe what they believe. Facts and logic therefore do not apply. 🤨
