The third riddle is actually featured in the movie "21", so I already knew the answer and the reasoning behind it. My love of movies has once again saved me in an inconsequential way XD

The second one is an extremely old one and it really points to the problem of teaching math. We learn math via number crunching (addition, etc.) We look at numbers and "add" them together not knowing that we may be "adding apples and oranges", which is what is happening when you add 9+9+9+2. The 2 should not be added to 9+9+9 because it is already included in the 9+9+9. The 9+9+9 is 27: 25 for the owner and 2 for the waiter. If you're doing 9+9+9+2 why not 9+9+9+2+25? ....... The third one is what happens when you try to apply probability to real problems. Probability theory may force you to "be safe" and swap the jelly bean but reality will show that you can still be poisoned by "swapping".

1 took me less than a second. 3 took me like 1.5 seconds, never got 2, so I am the yellow jelly bean of riddles.

There is no dollar missing in the 2nd riddle. The 2 $ is part of the 5 $ the chef gave back and each guest got 1 $ back. 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 25 = 30

lets say paid is (+) and get back is (-) they paid 30, and get back 3, 30 - 3 = 27(total paid) it should 30 - 5 or 30 - 3 - 2 because they should get 3 from chef and 2 from waiter. but waiter take 2 from them, 30 - 3 - 2 + 2 = 27 not 30 - 3 + 2 because they paid 27 not 29

Ben Shoshani, It is not. The answer given is correct. It's called the monty hall problem, look it up. And if you can program a bit, just write a program to simulate a few thousand. You'll see the answer is right and in the process of programing it probably realize why.

but the red jelly bean is removed from the equation-there is one less total and one less poisonous, so 2/3: 2-1 and 3-1= 1/2 1/3, the non poisonous ones, only removes one from the bottom because it is poisonous so 1/3: 3-1=2=1/2 so no, switching the jellybeans does not help.

Um... how did goblins get a packet of toxic jellybeans?

I was able to solve 1 & 3 easily ! But 2nd one is quite framing our own answer !! So I don' t think it as a riddle!!!!!

@Kenny Saechao. The 1.00 is with the 3 customers. The real cost is 25.00/3= 8.33 each. They paid 9.00. 9.00 - 8.33= .66 .66 × 3= 2.00 So. 25.00 + (1.00×3)+2.00= 30.00

Regarding the jellybean riddle; It's the monty hall problem, simple maths work. Easy enough; your first choice is infact a 1/3 chance, but it doesn't make a difference. Your first choice is meaningless, because: IF YOU PICK THE SAFE BEAN - One of the two poisoned beans will be removed (But you won't know if the remainder is safe or poisoned) IF YOU PICK A POISON BEAN - The remaining poison bean will be removed, leaving the safe one (But you won't know if the remainder is safe or poisoned still) Whatever you pick to start with makes no difference. Your final choice is to "switch." all this is, is a choice between bean A or bean B. The 3rd bean is lost, and makes no difference. It goes from a three bean problem to a two bean problem. Granted, whilst the first one IS more likely to have been poisoned, when that's cut down to a 50/50 chance, the difference made is effectively meaningless.

the 3rd riddle is basically the monty hall problem where behind 1 door is a car while the other 2 are goats, the thing is should you stay or switch? if you stay you have 33% because it is still 1/3 but if you switch you have 50% since one is revealed poisonous

I still dont get the last one 🤔 for me it is the 50/50 chance between the green and the yellow one ... can somebody try to explain it please?

If you pick a poisonous bean, switching will mean you get a safe one. If you pick a safe bean, switching will mean you get a poisonous one. However, at the time you pick there are 3 options, and only a 1/3 chance that the one you picked was safe, vs 2/3 chance you picked a poisonous one. It’s a trick caused by the fact the bean that is removed is typically conditional on the bean you picked.

there was an usa program , think called jeopardy but might be wrong, were they did the equivalent to the goblin with the poison beans, it might of been phrased as there is a prise behind one of these three doors or in one of these 3 envelops which relied on the same probability thoughts , once the host removed the one definate non prise, the probability of the other choice being preferable jumped from 1/3 to 1/2

I was wrong with the easy medium but I got hard right because I was thinking it was green by the color but then I thought the color of the goblins was wrong so I picked yellow and I was right.
