Thank you! I appreciate your honesty, and bravery, to reveal your “mistakes” (learning opportunities!). Got my first breeding trio and 3 cages. I’m looking to build a better hutch for the cages before the babies come along. 🐇🐇🐇

Another channel I watch has places marble square slabs in each hutch. They will freeze a large soda bottle and lay the bottle up against the marble slab so it stays cool for them.

Yep that is a great idea! Just overall ventilation and air flow is key. Anything cold for them to lay on is a bonus 😊

Pet lodge used to make half decent coated wire hutches. I got one second hand. I decided wire was the way to go and they stopped manufacturing them! I figured out dog cages make decent rabbit holes if you line them with cage wire and a few inches up the side. Lock the doors with clips. Way cheaper considering I can get a large dog cage for 5-10$

I used to have pet lodges long ago when I raised Dutch! They definitely held up way better. This next go around I am using KW cages 😊

@@TealStoneHomestead KW's are super sturdy and meant to last. Certainly the best cages that I've found over the years for long-term use. Wish you good luck on the hutch redesign. I need to redesign a few of my own for some of the same reasons you listed in your video.

I’m glad it helped! 😊 also I still have my dumor cages! They work fine but do have a couple of flaws obviously. I always tell people to just watch the doors and watch for rust. Some buns get smart and can push out on the bottom of the door... lol

I have a 20x30’ pen for our rabbits they have a huge house they can go in. I should really do a video on it... I just need to put wire down and concrete it better on the edges but a 55 gallon drum with poultry cups for water am leave couple flakes of alfalfa and I throw grain out ever other day. Best summer system! Just winter I have to go out daily for water

So much great info but I’m wondering why you don’t have waste collectors so you can sell it, that’s money on the ground baby.

  • @TealStoneHomestead

Yes I would have never thought about the flies before they got really bad this last year!! Actually I am using all of my waste under the new hutch! I’m spreading the manure and wasted hay over my garden beds to act as mulch. This spring we’ll add more dirt. And when we’re not using so much hay next spring/summer, I might add some sort of collection system 😊

Try pine pellets in their pans/under their cages. I have used them in my rabbits litter box (first time having a litter trained rabbit, and ran into the smell issues) it completely eliminated the smell and kept his litter box supper dry for up to three days.
