If you have a cable release attached does it preclude orientation to vertical?

Dalwhat we don't believe so. The guys at 3LT are pretty switched on when it comes to detail such as this, although, do check over on their website where there's a lot more info!
Is there a way to have a usb inserted and shoot in portrait using the arca Swiss system?

Will this fit the D610 and is there enough room to access the panels on the side of the D610 camera. I see in the video that the Canon camera that is used there is not an issue but the D610 panels are hinged differently. I am looking for an L Bracket right now and this might be the one.

It's universal and if we know the guys from Stagsden [3LT], the chances are that it's compatible. We'd suggest giving it a try, it's a great price and chances are, very well built, too. Good luck - let us know how you get along.

I use it on a D610, and it works quite well. I don't use the ports on the side, so I can only say they seem to be accessible, although depending on the cable you use they may be tight. You can also off set it a little more than I do, which should give you better access.

Same as with any L bracket, really. Whilst the guys at 3LT will have engineered their universal bracket to allow ease of use with most other accessories and adaptations, it's likely that you'll need to remove to switch batteries. You can contact them directly at www.3leggedthing.com/

It will depend on your camera, I am able to change the battery in my D610 without any issues.
