Thanks Joe, where I live, it's not easy to get to a good camera store so a lot, if not all, of my research and purchasing is, or has to be online only. It took me a long time to get to the Arca Swiss system you explain here, with the L brackets and corresponding tripod heads. I wish you had done the video a few years ago! As it happens I made the switch a couple of weeks ago when a Really Right Stuff L bracket came on eBay for 30 dollars, purpose made for my D850. I thought, I had to explore this for so little money. Once I switched to an Arca Swiss head it was brilliant, so much easier than turning the camera and ballhead over for portrait shots. I am with you 100% in what you say about them here - and anyone considering changing to this kind of rig should jump at it right now. By the way, most good tripod heads allow you to remove the top stage where the quick release unit is fixed, and with an allen key you can remove it, and put an arca swiss conversion unit there instead. I just did this with my heavy landscape Vanguard tripod, and my Velbon UltraTrek travel tripod, in minutes. Thanks again Joe, I'll be working my way through your other videos as this was the first one I found - why are you hiding them!

Love that tripod & gimbal head combination.. Looks like the Fotopro E-6L Eagle & E-6H gimbal.

Love my L bracket and I've always gone custom-made for my camera. But after watching this I might buy a short universal one. Not least because I won't have to buy a new one next time I upgrade the body!

Nice explanation Joe! I order an Arca L Bracket with every new camera - even our tiny Fuji rigs. All of our studio stands and Gitzo tripods have Arca quick release plates on geared heads for precise framing from tiny lightweight units to $1300.00 3kg monsters. However we NEVER use any form of ball heads for the very reason as you just showed when one would have flopped over possibly damaging the camera or lens! It takes ages to align framing precisely with a ball head than with a geared head that allows you to refine your framing on any axis direction without losing the precise alignment on the other two axis! Cheers. David Myers Digital Masters Australasia! I just subscribed - great Video, thanks!

Can you attach acessories to the bracket or is it only for tripod use?
