This is the first time I’ve ever commented on a KZread video… ever… but I felt like I needed to say this! I make a point to not watch your new uploads right away, I save them until I’m having a bad day because they literally never fail to make me smile. This morning I was feeling kinda iffy and as soon as you said “what’s up everyone” I was grinning ear to ear. Thank you for all you do, both for the vegan community and for people in general 💕

Soy curls are the best! Before I met my boyfriend he would only eat meat and potatoes! (I'm not kidding) ...Two years into the relationship and he's replaced 70% of his meat intake with vegan substitutes and soy curls (marinated/seasoned and baked in the oven) are one of his favourites! Also all three of those burritos look delicious! :)

Is there any difference between TVP and soy curls? I mean when it comes to marinating and cooking - just the whole process. Here in germany i can only find classic tvp. And can u give me some recommendations for the marinating/seasoning?

  • @dalemills8052

    @dalemills8052

@@xxxxxxx82736 soy curls can just be soaked in cold/warm/ hot water or marinated in any flavor profile you like. I like to add just a bit of vinegar or lemon juice to a strong broth. Mustard and/or vegan Worcestershire are great instead of vinegar. Just soak the soy curls in a generous amount of the marinade for as long as you like, squeeze out the excess liquid and sautee or bake them. I even bread and chicken fry them. Wonderful!! With tvp I would make the same marinade and use just enough to make the tvp as soft as you like it While sauteeing it.

I've got one for you....sweet potatoes, salsa, black beans, fresh corn, avocado, and cilantro. It's good with or without rice. I live on burritos as much as possible and yeah, soy curls ROCK. Normally I toast my tortillas on an open flame briefly on one side before I fill 'em. It keeps the moisture inside while adding that texture and yumminess. I will try your sealing-the-ends technique first thing tomorrow. I find it amusing that someone in New Mexico is watching someone in Canada make burritos. Hah! Thanks for the video! Good stuff!

Hey Derek. Here's a little tip I use for sealing burritos. Just before you finish the roll, dip your finger in some water and lightly wet the inner side of the closing edge of the tortilla. The water will allow the gluten to act as a glue that seals the burrito more securely especially when it hits the pan.

  • @adamj2683

Another trick-- instead of microwaving the tortilla, you can just put it straight on the heat source and move it around a bit for 10 seconds, on the flame or electric stove. Right over a flame is how they soften tortillas in Latin America.

Just stir in some curry powder to taste but I think you could also mix in some of your favorite curry paste with the water and cook the rice in that as well. As for the bean burritos why not fajita or taco flavored soy curls, tofu or tempeh to add in?

The soy curls are really good if you soak them in chick-un broth instead of just water! These are great ideas for burritos, thanks!

I love the soy curls! They are available on Amazon. And keep in mind they are only cooked soy beans, period. and since they are dried you get a lot of edible product from one 8 oz pkg.

My favorite thing about your cooking is that you're not delusional like "oh yeah eggs and cheese and meat are gross, plain tofu and grass is delicious". You actually come up with delicious tasting vegan alternatives so you don't have to miss out on enjoying your meals. Well done!

For the dinner burrito, I like to add chickpeas roasted in taco seasoning and I like mixing lentils into the rice. I also love the flavour of mixing black beans with bbq sauce. Thanks for the great tips!

here's what I'd improve about the dinner one to give it some bite: French fries inside I got them inside a veggie burrito at a local burrito place once and I haven't ordered a burrito without them since. It goes a long way, especially at a burrito place where the option's usually a bit mushy

Thank you so much for these great ideas. I'm still on the hunt for a good gluten free wrap. Haven't had much success so far. Everything rips apart of the ones I have tried. These multiple recipes take a lot of work to make and film and I really appreciate all the tips. Hugs from Toronto.

Quick update on that. Ive been on a burrito kick all week! 😆 Ive been using 'LaTortillaFactory' ivory teff wraps. I cant fold them on all four sides but ive been folding them lenghtwise (open ends like a taquito) and grilling it seam down to seal it so it wont unroll. (Pretty hot pan for at about 3 minutes) You could wrap the bottom in foil to eat it one handed, but i just ate 'em on a plate with fork an knive. 🤤

Not sure it will work, but look into KitchenAid's attachment that makes wraps out of sweet potatoes, etc.

Food tubes are life. Not exactly a tortilla but a brand "Indianlife" makes good organic wraps. They wrap well as long as they are heated first, they do have some oil in ingredients but no sugar!

I love making burritos. I’ll sometimes make some and then freeze them, then throw them in the air fryer on a low setting when I’d like them. For this (or anyone who likes a lot of moisture in their burritos) I suggest using greens to line the burrito to separate the liquids from the tortilla, keeping it from getting soggy.

Try adding large pieces of medjool dates for the dinner burrito for some chewy texture. The sweetness is delicious with the rest of the ingredients :)
