Grant's island seems more pleasing to the eye and has a more difficult setting for the player to aboard the island because this requires the player to gather all the resources to craft a boat just to reach it and its more stylized approach. Also like the Boss idea too

Rick taught us that you have to have moments and his castle has only 2 I think, battle and flag capture. Grant's castle though has 3 moments the forest, the road to the castle and the Boss. And he has banner's as per client request. Grant wins. Gary's gameplay wise is great but it looks bad :))

Wise comments! I had a bunch more moments but edited them out to keep the summary tight.
I was really surprised by all the castles and everything everyone was able to make, they are all impressive!
That was really fun. I'm quite surprised by how much Rick was able to do through Unreal. I thought Grant would have won it by a landslide with Blender, but Unreal looked like a lot of fun to work with.

Honestly, Unreal 5 is probably the best "all-in-one" game engine that exists currently, you can do pretty much everything within one window, except maybe the actual artwork/drawing. Also consider that he wasn't even familiar with Unreal and obviously hadn't worked with it much if at all before, so it's crazy to think what an Unreal expert could have done in the same amount of time.
I like all 3 castles, so no winner or all are winner
Last presentation for gameplay. 3rd guy for design. 1st guy for color.
Thanks for the Battle! Who has the best Draaaawbridge?!
I love all three of them. You guys did very well, for such a short time.
I think, Rick has the castle that makes sense in terms of size and structure. Grant has the castle with better looking scenary. Gary has the castle with gameplay mechanics design in mind... so... overall... i think i like Rick's castle.

The blender guy defiantly, though there was a few bits where he could have done a bit better, for example with the water he could have used Perl in noice with a displacement map to make it look better quick. Though I am very impressed with all of them

For future reference if anybody needs it: Add an Icosphere, set divisions to 1 Hit tab to Edit mode Then select a vertex and hit Ctrl+Shift+B to bevel (menu item is Vertex > Bevel) Grab a vertex and move it along its normal by hitting G then G If you have Auto Merge Vertices on the 2 overlapping verts will merge (That's a tick box top right of screen while you're in edit mode) Hope it helps! It's also fun to add a Decimate modifier afterwards.

Gorgeous battle. A very beautiful castle. All of them. Thank you!!!
Grant's was the most visually appealing imo, but what the other guys did inside of Unity and Unreal in such a short amount of time is very impressive! Well done guys 🙂💯
Grant because the scenic shot looks amazing, and great scenario retaking the castle WITH A BOSS FIGHT. Glorious.
That was great! I was really surprised by both Unity and Unreal. I had expected for F Grant to just completely mop the floor with the other two, but they both came in a respectable 2nd and 3rd place.
Lol, Grant is just slowly and quietly building a masterpiece! I'm loving these competitions, so fun to see each persons creativity but also just quick ideas on what each program can do! The way Rick added water in his level, awesome!
this is really fun to watch! i hope yall can keep doing this kind of content.
I like Gary's approach. There is probably a rich duck living in the keep. The barbarians tried to get some stuff out but all they managed was... That. One. Chest.

All three looked great. I'm not sure Unity is as capable as the others. Rick's castle wins the prize. Grant's use of color is more visually appealing.

great stuff guys all!
Drawbridge! Oh, and I vote for Rick!
Absolutely love these!
Interesting concept, but i think the final test should be to have a judge play test them each
Not to be that guy, but castles actually were quite often painted white. I forget all the reasons why outside of pure vanity, but a white castle would be more period appropriate that a "proper grey" castle. Very fun video.

I love being "that guy", so here are some extra details for you 😃 Historically, they were painted for a few reasons; It made them more visible from a distance, It helped to protects the underlying structure from the weather, It may have helped control the spread of disease. It's also worth noting that many early-medieval castles were made from wood rather than stone. In some cases, these wooden structures would be disguised as stone castles to make them look more fire-resistant that they actually were. I was going to color mine something different but ran out of time, so I'm going to claim that it's a wooden castle that has a stone veneer to make it look more durable! 🙃
Omg I'm loving these videos, please just continue haha
Blender guy nailed it

Had no clue Unreal Engine had 3d modeling tools, that is neat!
Hilarious, and given the time allotted all the work is fantastic.
I gotta say, I think Unreal wins here. The one made in blender looked good and was more detailed, possibly, but the Unreal creation not only completed the castle assignment, but also had the rest of the big open land surrounding the castle to potentially explore; with mountains, small forests, etc... Doing all of that compared to just the single Island Castle within the same amount of time, and by someone who isn't even accustomed to working with Unreal, is simply fantastic. It not only illustrates the ability of the guy who made it, but also the power and ease-of-use of Unreal. Edit: Also, I'm a bit surprised by how crappy the Unity creation looks in comparison to both. Not to blame the person who made it, it just looks like Unity has much worse default tools, and relies much more heavily on the marketplace and plugins.

The thing is that you're able to implement Blender files into Unreal, thus making blender superior for this kind of work and detailing which you can then add onto a world made in Unreal. At least imo.

but castles are built so theyre hard to take. So the fact that it wasn't built on top of a mountain makes no sense logically XD
A lot of fun, good editing too.
This was pretty good. Very fun video for sure.
This was fun and I enjoyed watching the race against time from all three, but Grant solo'd with the banners and the boss at the end, common Blender W
Gary's entry is the one that most closely resembled a game level for me. IDK but I thought of Spyro when was doing the walkthrough of his level.
Super cool idea for a video! I'd love to be able to join one day! 😄
Very Impressive, even though I am a fun of Gary and he did a very good job with ProBuilder (that is somewhat difficult to manage), I vote for Grant because the final visual result is the best. Sorry Rick.... :) (cool reflections though on the river)

I wish you'd showcased the castles better, I wanted to see the castles better :( This was a lot of fun! My first time viewing one of your videos on YT.
Really enjoyed this video
Though I would choose Rick for explaining everything he did (following what he explains in his courses the same), I also have a preference for Unity, where I saw Gary do awesome low poly and actually setup the level pretty well. But I think Grant won honestly :D
You can make things very fast in blender if you know the hot keys
I would like to vote the blender guy, the concept just makes sense. Everything especially the banner and the sequence of the pathway through each path. The barbarians and also unique amongst them a castle is unique it has its own castle among the lands high area which makes a castle more interesting
Grant made a gorgeous scene, great work everybody
Loved the blender one!

I work primarily in Unity, so i have no doubds that you can make great looking staff in Blender and Unreal. But it realy surprises me what probuilder is capable to))
The winner for me was Grant! The middle guy, the blender guy!

We the Blender cultists, I mean fans, that's what we are fans, no, I mean users, yeah, we are users, blender is a tool, not a cult. Anyway, we are here to show our love and support for Grant because we think in a fair and objective way that he says drawbridge in a funny way and this deserve to win. Also he modeled the barbarian.❤

Agree, all are great especially in 90 min. but I think Grant may have been DQ by a drawbridge (or was that lag)!!
Having modelled a castle myself with Unity's probuilder tool, I can say that Gary did pretty well. proBuilder has a big problem if you start deforming the basic shape without having prepped all your loop cuts in advance, which is probably why Unreal was probably the easier tool to work with head to head. Though it has to be said that blender was always going to be the prettiest one for lighting and ambience.
Hey. I know Grant. He’s my blender mentor in Udemy. I like him a lot as he teaches.
