3 Days Alone in the Wilderness - Canvas Poncho Shelter - Disaster Struck Second Day
#bushcraft #camping #survival #asmr
Hiking and bushcraft along the shore of a big lake. Colder temps and saw first snow. Always a great moment.
The Pellet basket I got for like 5-6 dollars at Biltema. It turned into a great platform for some barbecue at second camp. At first camp I tried to put the poncho upside down. Worked good. I find the normal setup I do is slightly better to protect you from rain when you are sleeping but without rain this worked good. It gives a deeper space between your person and the shelter so you can place the backpack inside.
Day 2 I twisted my foot bad. Real bad. The foot swelled up and I could not fit it in my boot without excruciating pain. I managed to get the swelling down in a cold creek the second evening. Went into the sleeping bag with poncho on top. The next morning it felt ok but a few hours of hiking with a backpack in this terrain made it so much worse. I almost gave up and thought about calling for help. Sorry for not filming much but eventually I decided to do the last scenes (had to eat and get energy from coffee anyway) and try to hike back to the car. Without that crutch I made I never would have made it to the car. At home now for two days. Foot is still blue and hurts a lot. But I figure it's not broken since I can barely walk with it. Time will tell.
Been trying to figure out how to manually add subtitles. Can you see subtitles in your language?
Thanks for watching!

Bad ankle yet he still took the time to do “limp away” shots, then go back for the camera. Trooper! Thanks for taking us along, speedy recovery!

I am a trauma nurse & Always carry a roll of electrical tape. You can splint your ankle over your sock & it has enough elasticity in it to secure the joint without constricting blood flow. A British Royal Marine taught me that hack & it has saved me on more than one occasion.

@@Swedwoods Hey Swedwoods! Not sure if you celebrate Thanksgiving but a happy, although belated one to you & your family. Not sure why, it could've been the expression on your face around 3:20, but you looked like you were about to have a good laugh at something? I saw somebody using these things called "gear ties" & I guess they act like overly large bread twist ties that you may see on bread that you may get from the store. No idea how good these are, how long they could be or much about them but, it looks like they could come in handy for some kind of build? It was Camping With Steve on KZread that I saw these "gear ties" on. Don't know if you ever watch him or not. Big fan of the both of you!

@@Swedwoods PS- on 11:49, you mentioned the 1st snow; my area had its "3rd snow" by 11/22, so the day before Thanksgiving. Weather only gave us 2 to 4 inches but it was that wet, heavy stuff snow that you can easily make snowballs from. 1st 2 times we only got a dusting. Snow from 11/22 melted away pretty quickly although you can still see some traces here & there.

Nature is simply: it works or not. You will make it or not. We all out there can be prepared or not - in the end of the day the mindset will be the judge: and you saw, you’ve made it! Congrats! Recovering soon I hope and no great video of yours it’s worth to risk health!
That is most ingenious handcrafted twig stove I have ever seen and a badly sprained ankle. About the only thing to do here is tape it tight and tighten your boots as much as you can. These are slow to heal, unfortunately. I hope it wasn't too far back to the truck. Hope you are feeling better now. I have been able to see English subtitles previously.

The subtitles are in English here in the US. A doctor once told me that I would rather my foot was broken because sprains were so painful and slow to heal. And he was correct-it took a long time. Be patient and do what your physical therapists says and you’ll be fine.

Adding to my earlier comment-this is an excellent example for us all. Accidents can happen to anyone at anytime. You must have emergency gear and a strategy in place before you leave the safety of your car. Just because it hasn’t happened to you yet doesn’t mean it won’t. That sort of viewpoint is normalcy bias-and that will get you in trouble. Always have plan B. Mr. Swedwoods had a means of calling for help if necessary and we should all do exactly the same. Thanks so much for your sharing your experience-good and bad!

The subtitles were not displayed in the local language, but this may also be due to my settings. As always, a great, relaxing video and of course far too short. I wish you a speedy recovery so you can get back to your natural habitat. Luckily it seems to be just a sprain. Good, strong shoes are worth their weight in gold. Take care of yourself. Ankle injuries can take awhile to heal. Especially if you keep putting weight on it. Thanks for persevering and completing the video.
I salute you for putting in the foot footage. As well as painful, the post-accident embarrassment must have been intense. But any hiker who says he hasn't banged himself up once or twice is a liar.
Sorry I’m late. That little fire box worked pretty good, especially for the price . I imagine that third day was really bad. Hopefully you had a way to message your better half so she wouldn’t panic . My wife stays on me about solo trips for these reasons but the options are limited.
