3 crew members hospitalized after train crash, derailment in Folkston
Initial reports indicate that two locomotives, two intermodal and two rock cars derailed after the crash at 1:24 p.m. Monday.

My parents just got off Amtrak on this same track and I thank God they made it home safe this morning before this happened with the freight train.

That was not a 911 call from the crew. It was the crew of L743 calling their dispatcher to advice them of what just happened

Train crews don’t have a phone readily to use . Protocol is tone up dispatcher with tone up 911 . Emergency .

As a retired railroad conductor I disagree....I own a trucking company and most all my customers will never use rail ...4 days cross country in truck, 3 weeks if not more by train....

Because the train that was stopped was on a different track. The intermodal train was supposed to go straight on a different track. However the switch was lined for the wrong track and that's how the accident occurred

I know the cause of the accident, switch tender had the switch lined wrong for I032 and told him he was lined correctly.

It's why we always, ALWAYS make 3 visual inspections at switch points. Even at night with your light. I know it's hard footwork at times, but it's gotta be right. What if it was a Amtrak?

Was that a hand operated switch or an interlocked switch controlled by a dispatcher? I ask because if it was interlocked, the occupied OS section would have knocked down all of the signals and the train that hit the standing train would have had a Stop Signal. If that is the case, they violated a Stop Signal for some reason.

@@B-and-O-Operator-Fairmont they were running on EC-1's and got the all clear from the switch tender to proceed. Plus where this happened there is a switch that sends trains down two sets of tracks towards 2 different subdivisions. The rock train was coming out of Waycross and was on track 2. The intermodal train was supposed to continue north crossing in front of the stopped L743. However the switch was lined improperly causing I032 to proceed down the wrong subdivision on track 2 towards L743

@@B-and-O-Operator-Fairmont They are both!🤭 These guys bottled some air on a MOW train, lost some cars, did not go into emergency....kept going. Dispatcher assumes work is done, crew radios in...Switch lined by dispatcher with cars fouling it🤭 Intermodal rams cars on fouled switch.

No, video shows the train rolling by maintenance personnel with no DPU and start slowing down drastically. Then you hear the boom of impact and another boom.

@@David-yo5re cRaZy... Rock train had bottled air making the MOW crew think they had brake pressure. As the train lost air a few cars broke loose at the end of their train as the air dropped off. It just fouled the point enough that the DS switch the track without looking at the screen, taking the crews word for being clear etc. The intermodal ran on restricted thinking it would be clear. So the MOW crew hand threw the switch but the DS lined it back with cars still on the frog! BooM.

They were using track warrants due to work zones. They had hired a contractor to work all of the switches and make sure they were all properly lined up. It seems the contractor somehow missed the switch here

This WAS a 911 call technically because the emergency call from the locomotive radio is activated by keying 9-1-1 on the keypad.
