3 Autumn Days in Takayama (Shirakawa-go, Hida Folk Villages)

We had the 3 most incredible days in and near Takayama, Japan. We visit Shirakawa-go, a picturesque mountain village, historic Takayama, and the fun Hida Folk Village near Takayama. We try Hida beef for the first time (watch Heather actually become speechless!), witness Japan's glorious autumn leaf colors, and try our hand at a few traditional activities. An amazing 3 days!

Your journeys fascinate me every time. And the last extra video is actually my favorite. If you enjoy Wagyu beef, there is no need to choose a famous and expensive brand such as Kobe Beef. This is because it is very tasty no matter where it comes from in Japan. The quality of beef is ranked in five levels, with 3 or higher being unquestionably delicious, and 4 and 5 being enchantingly delicious. The highest rank is A5, which can be purchased at supermarkets, so please explore and see for yourself. By the way, the orange fruit on the tree with all the leaves gone is the persimmon. Japanese fruits are expensive but very tasty. In early summer (June-July), we recommend cherries, loquats, peaches, and watermelons💓

I've been watching Heather and Bill's videos for a long time. This time, the Hida and Shirakawa-go video was a very good teaching guide video. It was very enjoyable, with the charming personalities of you guys. By the way, if you have the next opportunity, I strongly recommend that you go hiking in the Tohoku region. Most tourists from abroad don't stop in the Tohoku region, so you can experience new sights and food, and have wonderful communication with the most charming people in Japan. I highly recommend hiking for you around Zao (there is a beautiful crater lake near the top of the mountain). Please do. Thank you always, and take care, stay well (from the bugs!!!).

Takayama is one of my favorite cities. Not to mention the atmosphere of the town, Hida beef is also the best. Takayama is located on a highland, so the cherry blossoms bloom a little late. So hopefully, you can enjoy it at the same time as the Takayama Spring Festival.

Hi. Which month did you go? I’ve booked my trip for h fall color but I think I booked too early in the season😢 I love Takayama. We’ve been there once. Love your video!!

Hi, fall color timing varies every year! This video was recorded around November 1. If your main goal is fall color and you think you booked too early, you could try going to Hokkaido! Takayama also has slightly earlier fall color because it's a little higher in altitude. Kamikochi has even earlier fall color.
