Hiroshima: A city worth more than a day trip!

We visited Hiroshima a year ago and felt very strongly about how people should spend their time there. While we still believe that, the truth is we totally fell in love with beautiful, modern Hiroshima. We returned to explore other things to do, if you want to stay here more than one day (and you should!). Don't miss the end, where things unexpectedly come full circle.

I live in Hiroshima City. I think that people in Hiroshima who are at all interested in cars are very interested in new cars and model changes regarding Mazda, an automobile manufacturer whose headquarters is in Hiroshima. Compared to the world's top manufacturer Toyota, Mazda is a small manufacturer in terms of both company size and global market share, but I'm honestly happy to hear that you are all Mazda fans. I once owned a new first-generation Roadster. It's a wonderful memory.

After watching your original very touching video on Hiroshima, we had to add it to our itinerary - so glad we did. Peace park was an unforgettable, moving experience. This newest video makes me want to return - we've travelled a lot, but Japan holds a special place for us. Thank you for creating such insightful videos without all the typical youtuber hype.

I'm so glad you made this video. I ended up having the exact same experience: I was there for a quick stop to see the museum and go to Miyajima, and ended up falling in love with the city. The peace park is majestic and its such a beautiful city to explore, and you have way less tourists than most others in the region.

I was born and raised in Hiroshima. I think your videos bring out the good aspects of this place beautifully and well. Hiroshima is certainly a city with a dark side to its history. However, I know that there is another side to this city, such as it has many beautiful places you went, warm people, and modern new buildings. Many people only learn about Hiroshima in history textbooks, but your videos introduce the other, living side of Hiroshima, not just the historical one, and provide many KZread viewers with the opportunity to learn about it. And I'm glad about that. Thank you,, Also close to Miyajima is Imoseno of Falls. You can go there by car, but it's a big local waterfall. It's beautiful and one of my favorite local spots. If you get a chance you come back here, you can see :)

The shrine in the Hiroshima castle grounds was originally located quite near the hypocenter. In fact, one of the tori gates (the one nearest the road entrance, not the one visible in your video) withstood the blast and is visible in some pictures of the hypocenter. Just a hundred meters or so from Shima Hospital. It was later relocated to its current location. I've lived in or around Hiroshima for 40 years and only discovered this fact a couple years ago.

@@TalesFromOurPocket Don't worry so much. I checked the English and Japanese web pages of Shukkeien Garden, but neither mentioned any prohibition of eating or drinking on its premises. Drinking alcoholic beverages is prohibited in most garden parks in Japan; however, soft drinks, water, and lunch boxes or (light) snacks are not in many of them. If they are ever banned (except for during the covid outbreak when the majority of garden parks in Japan banned bringing lunch in) , how come some foods are on sale at some shops/tea house(茶屋)or vending machines within the premises? Why are some popular bento shops near the garden entrance (out of the premises)? I want to read the official statement on their website or similar evidence, clearly mentioning the banning of bring-in lunch or any prohibition of drinking non-alcoholic beverages in their premise. Banning would certainly cause dehydration, especially on hot days. Besides, many locals say, on SNS and their blogs, that in Shukkeien Garden they enjoyed having lunch they brought in, and so apparently there are many locals who brings in lunch with them to Shukkeien Garden. This garden banned bring-in lunch only temporarily in 2021 due to Covid outbreak.
