2JZ 350Z Part 3: Ep.2: Head Tolerances + More New Parts

This is the fourth installment in this video series, where I'll be documenting how to swap a 2JZ into a 350z from start to finish, covering all the steps, parts, costs, and headaches involved in the project. In this video, I go in detail on checking the tolerances of all the parts of a 2JZ cylinder head assembly and discuss some more new parts. I hope you enjoy!

I think honestly your videos are so informative for the average guy that almost anyone would be able to do this by themselves. Step by step guide to literally the world any one who would like to do this swap. I really like these videos keep it going. From a previous 1jzgte swap into s13 guy

I appreciate the compliment! I want to teach people to be able to do these things themselves instead of worrying about having a shop do it, so I’m glad to hear that! Also, sweet build 👍

Soooo, without providing the tutorial, how long would it take “you” to assemble this motor to its entirety ??

For a real seasoned professional, they typically would have all the part tolerances checked before they even start the assembly. So normally if everything has already been inspected I think they would quote about 1.5-4 hours to assemble the basic mechanical parts of the long block (from the oil pan up to the valve covers) depending on the engine. For me, it’s a slow-going process because I like to take my time and do things right as best I can. It’s also my first ever engine build, so there’s no muscle memory to rely on. With all the tolerances to check, parts to order, and tedious cleanup involved, I’d say at least a week for the average person (assuming no time spent at a job or with friends/family, an unlimited budget, and no delays in shipping parts). Checking tolerances, cleanup, cost, and shipping delays have been by far the most time consuming factors for me at drawing out the time it takes to get this assembled (plus filming and editing). I probably won’t have mine done for another few weeks :)

Although I think they look better, they are 4 times more expensive and serve the same purpose.
