Apologies if this has been asked before. But compared to your d100 dungeon run, what do you prefer? Apart from grinding I mean. Thanks !

It hasn't, and it's a good question. One that I can't provide a satisfying answer for. I really need to explore D100 more (especially outside of the "tutorial quests"). They're so far completely separate games in my mind that it's not comparable. Tack on 4AD and now we've got a real mess on our hands. I really like how fast and quick combat in D100 is, but I also really enjoy how thoughtful and interesting combat in 2D6 is. Combat in 4AD is great as well, and it has other considerations, such as marching order and fleeing, etc. I see 2D6 as a "roguelike", "you will die and start over many times, goal: can you survive 10 levels?", whereas D100 (core book, no idea on books 2-7) has a really awesome set of quests that play out randomly (I really love that about D100) and feels like a long haul adventure. 4AD (core book) is, imo, very limited and gets old after 3-4 plays, BUT when you tack on a few supplements it suddenly easily becomes the biggest of the three. D100 and 2D6 "character class" is somewhere between non-existent and very weak, which is fine (it might hurt to start D100 as a magic user though, I think...), and in 4AD classes are awesome, making each character feel unique and bring their own thing to the table. Dungeon room generation is another aspect. 2D6 has a brilliant system (X x Y + exits) that could easily be used in anything else, this might be a matter of preference, as I'm sure drawing the map out is the least interesting aspect for many people. Dungeon setting is a whole different aspect, where (the core book of) 4AD is generic boring corridors and rooms with a random assortment of a small number of creatures in it "just because" - yet again, throw in some supplements and it becomes a world more than that. Book 1 of D100 gets its spice from the tables, but the core book isn't as expanded as I would like it to be (I KNOW this is changed in a later book, I saw or read about the tables somewhere). 2D6 shines in the setting, as not only are there something like 60 rooms per floor but they change theme as you go! They're just all so different I can't say I prefer one over the other, all three are pretty fantastic games, AND all very inexpensive to get in to (the PDFs are cheap!). The only answer I can come up with is "what do I feel like today?". There are days I want nothing more than to control a party of heroes, or be a lone adventurer, or to find some weird wall cheese! :) 2D6 Realm (I think it was initially to be called 2D6 Kingdom) will further open the door and I'm very excited to see what that brings. I also already have the D100 Dungeon Book 6: World Builder book, and now I have a mess of 4AD supplements to look in to. It's an amazing time to be a gamer. :)

@@CeePhour Many thanks for this very long answer! I see what you mean, those games all have their plus and minus, as one can expect. Regarding the grinding in d100 dungeon, I would highly recommend tome 2. It has supplementary rules, new classes, and a system that simulates the first 5 training quests, allowing you to skip the grinding part. Tome 6, world builder, is also a must. Now at another end of the spectrum takes place dice throne adventures. This is mostly tactics with an excellent combat system. The downside being the higher complexity and longer combat sessions. I would like to see a version 4 with d100 dungeon, where combat were more tactical, with fewer dice throws. Many thanks for your message and the nice videos!

@@ericfernandez8700 I definitely need to get D100 Book 2 next (I have 6:WB, but haven't read it yet), it sounds like it's exactly the next step I would want for D100. That's great to hear. I understand what you're saying about D100 combat. It really does just come down to lots of frenzied dice throwing, but at times I've had fights in 2D6 that were a slog because of rolls I couldn't make work, with nobody getting hit for multiple rounds, and it takes time to work out that 'miss' because you're doing the Shift math. This is why I get so torn on dice combat. Both are great, depending on what you feel like that day. Does Dice Throne Adventures use "Yahtzee" combat? I have played Dice Throne a few times at 3 and 4 player (not Adventures, just vs each other) and hated every minute of it. It would probably be more fun co-op because then the persons rolling poorly would be carried by the persons rolling well, and that's something, I guess. I always rolled extremely poorly in that game, and it's no fun getting smashed when there is literally nothing you can do because the dice say so. In the 4-player game my partner (his first game, my third or fourth) and I both rolled so poorly every time where our two opponents seemed to have magic dice. It was such a horrible experience none of us (all four) have ever played again. The cards seemed like a mechanism that could have really improved the game, but were severely underdeveloped.

@@CeePhour You are right about the yahtzee aspect of dice throne adventures, but it is much more sophisticated and there are ways to mitigate chance, in addition to a skill upgrade system. That said it would certainly be too heavy for a dungeon crawler like d100. What d100 would beneficiate from is a more streamlined combat system with fewer throws, with a little bit of added tactics. For instance being able to decide between balanced, attack and defensive stances Vs enemy tactics. Easier said than done, of course 😁 Stalling and grinding need to be addressed, otherwise d100 is really nice. The other system at the end of the spectrum for solo dungeoneering uses oracle systems, but they require more imagination, inspiration or involvement from the player to make it interesting , which at the same time can get in the way of the game system. They can give good results though, on KZread there is channel "Solo D&D" who makes very nice demo of it.

I've checked with Toby about 'The Crypt' large room. You should only encounter a maximum of six patrols - one for each coffin. After defeating each patrol then you can check each coffin.

I only bought the PDFs, but I figured using a cheap tablet or e-reader to display the charts would work. Then, while shopping for one, I realized I had a bunch of old cell phones and just used one of those with a busted microphone and a 6.3 inch display (1080x2340) and it ends pretty readable even for my aging eyes.

As long as you can zoom in and out quickly it should work well. I use Moon Reader for PDFs. I wonder if you can have an office supply store print it out for you? Now that I think about it I can picture my optometrist nodding "yesssss!!!!" at me. :)

@ceephour - I believe you can use the Invisibility scroll at the start of combat like you wanted to. Its purpose is to allow you to avoid the combat and the room. Essentially a scroll is cast before the combat begins, so that "next combat" is the one that ensues after you cast the scroll. Normally, after you cast a scroll before a combat, it means the monster attacks first in round 1. In the case of Invisibility, you escape and avoid the combat.

Absolutely loved all your play throughs from this game much appreciate your time and effort. Just one thing I noticed I may have been playing wrong and maybe Toby can comment but I think when you go to town to sell you only Half the price for your armors scrolls potions and anything you sell on the miscellaneous table. I believe gems and all stuff you find that has a gold value to it keeps its full price when sold. Anyway thank you again for doing these fantastic job.

Oooooh, that sounds familiar! I would have to go back and check, there's a handful of things I keep forgetting. Good call out! Thank you! Page 33, "Selling Items" : For your armour, make a note of the total value of the pieces you plan to sell. For miscellaneous items, calculate the total based upon the ‘Values of Miscellaneous Items Table’ and halve it. Gems retain their full value, but armour, scrolls, potions, and magic items are only worth half their purchase price (before market bartering). Runes sell for 50 GC each and magic affected armour gains 50 GC value.

I've purchased 2D6 through Toby's store and am considering having the PDF printed spiral bound, in hope of mitigating data loss at the spiral margins. Your inexpensive solution doesn't look too bad, but I'm afraid I'd roll "🎲🎲" if I tried that... perhaps losing way too much on my physical copy. Watching you play so much has made me think of fubars as rolling two ones.

My figuring was if this mangles my book I'll just order the real spiral versions, but it came out fine enough. One thing I REALLY like about the books is how quality they are. The pages are excellent. It's not "standard printer paper". I don't know if you could get a printing service to use whatever nice paper these have, but I know I would miss how they feel. I would love to see how that would turn out.

I noticed this in the last video, but sometimes the monster whiffs actually help you more! like at 30:51, you would have gotten to give the Faraviata an extra d6 of damage according to the stat block, although it didn't really matter here. In the last video, i think you would gotten an extra attack and avoided some damage if I remember correctly.

I wish, so badly. Believe it or not 2D6 Dungeon is still sitting on my "holding area" - a little card table right behind the table I record on I use as a staging area/prep. But life (job/money) got in the way a few weeks ago and I suddenly had zero opportunity to record. Thankfully switching to four 10 hour shifts will allow me one day a week to record, but even that's a bit tight, but I will see what I can do when it starts (which was officially this week, the video was Rogue Dungeon).

With that much upkeep it would make a nice computer game. :) I know that defeats the reason, but it would maybe help to have all the data on a tablet in an easy to use form, linked PDF or HTML or as a App.

Oh good, thank you! That certainly sounded like the intent, and it makes sense. I can get tripped up in the wording on some tables because they have to be shoehorned into a little space and I get worried about doing stuff wrong (which usually just makes me even more wrong).
