    Interesting about the card borders - it’s strange how people are bothered by things that some people have never ever even considered, not trying to say that you’re wrong or anything. Respect for taking so much care!

    Thanks for making the video GeekGamers01. It looks like you had an epic adventure so far (loving the little illustrations). Just so you know you faced two of the most powerful Level 1 Creatures! Many have died facing the Apothecary. Loving the side quests ups and downs as well. Great to see that adding some excitement. The character stats have always been a point of discussion. I made a conscious decision to make this aspect lite. It would have just involved more rolling if I had had more, why else have a stat number? Then there would have been the debate of what stat. Strength, Intelligence, Dexterity, etc.... I just feel that it has been done to death. So many games have the same type of stats, I though I could try something a bit different. I also wanted the gamer to imagine how their character could be rather than set the race and class. I see these as very cliche. How about in reality the adventurer is a mix of races and classes? Has a range of skills for dungeoneering and dare to mix magic with the fighting class, which I know has been done, but for me seems natural. Any how I also was trying to not make it too complex, which is the death of games in my mind. When you said you could do level 1 again and it would be totally different, a new experience, a new story, I was delighted. That was my number one goal....thank you.

    Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your first experiences with 2d6 Dungeon. I was very appreciative of your high level comparison of 2d6 with D100 dungeon and 4 Against Darkness. By the way, I really like how you added great little sketches of the items, etc. on your map--very fun to see!

    I’m currently on Level 7 of my first play through. Definitely like this more than D100 Dungeon. (I’ve never played Four Against Darkness.) The further I got into the game, the more the Inventive Usage system might be my favorite part of the game. Descriptions matter. Where you choose to draw different room elements in the rooms can matter. My experience with D100 Dungeon was that it was too granular, with rules found across multiple books, for things that didn’t matter too much, but you’re always compelled to pause the game and get it right so you don’t cheat. 2d6 Dungeon feels like it flows much better and being able to be your own GM, with rules for Inventive Usage, “making noise”, and when to use the optional tables, never leaves me with a feeling that I’m “cheating”. The ambiguity is baked into the rules, and I like it.

    Love this game. The inventive usage is super fun. The combat is very clever. Way better than a generic who rolls highest mechanic. The shift stat is where the magic happens. Sure you can just get unlucky on rolls but every roll you always have a little wiggle room to compensate for it. This game really allows and expects you to be creative.

    I enjoy your content and I really like this game. I would like to see a variation or added rules/tables where one could buy or find new weapons of different types, but if you use a weapon that you aren't experienced with, you can only use some sort of basic low-powered maneuver with no shifts. Then, perhaps you would buy basic training on a new weapon type between delves, giving you a single "real" maneuver to pick for that new weapon. You would then be able to grow experience with the new weapon type as with the main weapon. During delving, at a burden cost, one could carry and swap out multiple weapons, each type with its own maneuver list that you have to grow over time. I can imagine a rule where you can freely swap weapons BEFORE rolling up and entering a new room, but once rolled, a swap costs a turn/initiative and maybe adds some additional vulnerability. Modified loot and market tables plus some additional fleshed out rules for multi-weapon use would, in my opinion, add more combat variety and strategy, letting you grow a character to master more than one weapon type over time. It would be amazing if something like this made its way into 2D6 Realm.

    Some rooms are unique so once you encounter it, you have to reroll till it’s something new. Good for balance and variability.

    You should go to town via a secret door before going to lev 2 because you can only do it once per level. I also felt like bartering was something I skipped. I disliked the idea of having to calc percentages. Maybe there’s ppl out there that would enjoy it tho. It cures bloodied and soaked instantly.

    I was involved in the play-testing. Unfortunately, the designer wasn't open to any comments on the randomness, lack of a core game experience, agency of the player to effect the outcome of events. This is still great as an on rails RPG story generator but there isn't much game. Still recommend it, and I bought a copy. It's a very interesting idea.

    Ah well that’s too bad. I thought playtesting was just for that purpose… With a few tweaks the game could truly shine but there is enough content that I think it works if you bring your own flavor to it, as I tried to show. I do wish the one mechanic in combat had more to it, however.

    Hi RKDNO. That's interesting feedback and I recoginse this dialogue. I guess I have the right to reply? Because I listened very closly to everything the testers and players said and say, highly valued their feedback and still do. Everybody was fantatsic and I introduced many elements based upon the playtesting and comments, just not all of them, which would have been impossible. Let me reinterate I highly value everything people tell me about the game. This is recorded in the vlogs of the development streams for all to see. I introduced Potion Bombs for example at your suggestion to add more agency in the combat. I find it hard to see how I could have kept the game simple and flowing, moving forward with a decent momentum, if it involved too many rules to keep referencing. There is a line I guess. The game has always been about narrative though so if you like that element then fab. As far a combat dice rolling goes well most RPGs just have one roll and you're left at the mercey of the final result. At least with 2D6 you can adjust the roll, have time affect it, use potion bombs, instantly call the favour of the gods, cast scrolls and choose your armour to cover specific weak spots. You just can't escape it, but that's the point. It's a living dungeon, the peril is real, there is nowhere to run, the danger is engrained. The agency of the player is also faciliated through Inventive Usage. Is there a system in a solo RPG that introduces more agency than this? There is so much agency at times you don't know what to do with it. For not being 'much game' it sure seems to engage people. At the end of the day what I want from a game is a thrilling experience and that was my goal with 2D6 Dungeon.

    These table plus a 4 AD crew… you would just need a way to proxy all the enemies you encountered but if you didn’t mind using your full 4AD library (assuming you have one, as I do), the results would be worth it.

    I bought this game just because the combat system really fit my own design I was working on for quite some time (one that I'm never going to finish, so don't you worry Toby, no competition here, haha!) Turns out though, I really liked the dungeon generation, the story seemed to flow a lot better in this compared to D100 Dungeon. Haven't tried 4AD, so cannot comment on that game. I do feel the dungeon generation, and the character "walking around in it" was lacking a bit. No tracing of where you are, no wandering monsters, no backtracking. A shame really, because you can jump from one end to the other in a split second, with no danger. This can be fleshed out later though.

  • @GeekGamers01

    @GeekGamers01

    10 ай бұрын

    I agree with you about that being an issue. When I play, I use the patrol rule much like a wandering monster roll might be and if I roll a 1 on d6, that means I have encountered a patrol if I am backtracking.
