#28 - Keen on Yoga Podcast with Shandor Remete

Sundernath (Shandor Remete) was fortunate to be born into a household at the southeastern tip of the great Hungarian plain where the art of yoga was a daily presence. From this seed, his destiny on the path of yoga unfolded.
He has spent over 60 years pursuing a depth of knowledge about the roots of yoga that very few modern scholars or practitioners have ever achieved.

I discovered this podcast a few weeks ago on Spotify and would say, that it is the best yoga podcast I came across so far. Thanks for putting this out. After i have listened to some talks of Shandor I feel somewhat confused about the whole topic of yoga. Everything he talks about sounds like rocket science to me and I wonder if I have wasted many years of practice or if I should just ignore this feeling and keep on with what I am allready doing.

I’m so pleased you found the podcast. There’s so much there. Indeed, Shandor has been one of my favourites, but there are many sides and faces to yoga. Why don’t you watch/listen to some others such as Eddie Stern, Edwin Bryant or James Malinson? Don’t despair, confusion is the fertile ground of growth! 🙏🙏

@@keenonyoga I love the Episode with Shandor. I am actually reading his shadow yoga book now. I was also very happy about the Podcast with Gregor Maehle. I kind of like those yogis who went deep into the internal practices. I would love a future episode with Rheinhardt Gammenthaler the Yogi from switzerland. His book "kundalini- yoga parampara" is still one of my favourite yoga books and I would love to hear some Storys about the time with his Guru Dhirendra Brahmachari.

The problem in this discussion is the building of abstraction upon abstraction which leads to an unwieldy structure of confusing circular logic.

Shandor is a living legend in my view, the current Iyenga / Desikachar, an extension of Krishnamacharya lineage. Along with his knowledge of mamas and nadis, cross polinated with the art of kalari payattu. A living grandmaster, if his wisdom graces you directly or indirectly, consider yourself blessed.

Shandor is the best yoga teacher today. I have studied with him for many years. His knowledge and understanding of Hatha yoga is equal to none.

I can only agree!! Shandor is incredible. I’ve always felt so fortunate having the time to interview and speak directly to him.
