    the ismell could actually probably be used to great effect for things like meditation and general stress relief; can you imagine being able to call up the smell of petrichor on demand? or a field of flowers? the smell of a bonfire? the beach? combine that with some asmr and it kinda sounds magical tbh

  • @yeetingat100subs9

    I’m not sure what kind of technology you think it would be able to have but it’s impossible to just create any imaginable smell on earth from a little device like that. It would have a decent number of options hopefully but it wouldn’t be able to produce every possible smell, and replicating the smell of for example a bonfire most likely wouldn’t turn out to be quite as nice as a real bonfire

    @@yeetingat100subs9 dude he just said they were literally making custom fart smells, meaning it was possible to create your own to some degree. And all of these are pretty freaking common smells, especially if it were to be marketed as a meditation tool. If science can make a jelly bean taste exactly like pizza, getting the smell of burning wood is a no brainier 🙄

    The Netherlands had quite a solid system for covid tracking. It constantly sends out a Bluetooth signal containing a code. When you are close to someone else, it exchanges codes. Once someone was tested positive in an official testing facility, they would send a notification to all phones that pinged your code the past 5 days. Fully anonymous, no data tracking, no GPS, just a smart use of Bluetooth. And most important; it was quite cheap to develop.

  • @SuvuIC

    They also used a very similar system here in Norway! Using Bluetooth and swapping codes

  • @rjmunro

    @rjmunro

    9 ай бұрын

    @@SuvuIC And so did the UK. The £37 billion figure for the app is wrong, it was more like £35 *million*. £37 billion was the whole cost for setting up all the Covid testing centres and stuff. The app was a bit of a mess because they wanted to use Bluetooth in a way that is not allowed on iOS. Apparently the developer found some sort of workaround, which was fine for testing, but meant the app was rejected by the Apple review process, so that had to convert to doing a standard Covid app using the APIs specifically provided by Google and Apple, like everyone else. I don't think the vertical thing is true, although bluetooth can probably travel through a single floor and therefore get a false alarm.

    The Vita was such a well designed and fun console. Sony just gave up on it too soon. They needed fun games, marketing, and a price drop. But that all cost money that they didn’t have in the early 2010s when they were in a dire financial situation. I still loved my vita and I played it all throughout my high school days.

  • @Officewaffle

    @Officewaffle

    Also, the resurgence of the 3ds after it initially struggled should have proven to Sony that the vita could recover. It was more powerful than the 3ds and had a better control setup, if they had tried to turn things around then people would have likely developed for it.

Bringing the touch pad tech over from the PS4 controller. The fact that it was able to connect to, and be used in conjunction with, a PS4. These things made it really stand out as a handheld. Back in the 90s, IE had a major advantage, since Microsoft integrated a lot of proprietary tech into it and then sold webpage development tools that would liberally use them. Since those tools were integrated into IE and not available to other browsers like Netscape, a lot of pages only rendered properly when viewed on IE (and in case of ActiveX controllers, on Windows OS). This also led Microsoft to create a frankenbrowser called Internet Explorer for Unix (based systems).

    The OnePlus Watch, while not being able to call without a host or even run anything but the download apps like Spotify with also songs on the watch, it was damn good I feel. Durability was amazing for the price point also, I wasn't easy at all on it and even kept it on in the shower with a cracked screen for half a year and that wasn't what killed it. But you could customize alot of stuff with it and it had so many exercise types so you could track down to the style of lift you used, which honestly I think wasn't warranted. It had NFC so I could pay "otf". I wish I could find another for sale, I don't want to bust my Samsung Watch at work.

So when switching to pc using windows XP all games ran very smooth, as XP was the absolute best option for running games. Switching to vista, none of my games would work because they werent even optimized for vista to begin with, none the less, when the games got optimized for vista i still couldnt run then because of how much RAM was already being used just to run my operating system.

    The 3D epidemic!! Omg I completely forgot about those TVs! Honestly they should’ve taken a note from HTC’s huge fail with the HTC EVO 3D back in 2011-2012 time frame. It was a huge gimmick, got ppl locked into a 2-year commitment with a phone that sacrificed performance improvements for being able to “go 3D” without special glasses. It basically fuzzed up the image and created more of a distorted picture than become 3D. It came out at the same, or around the same, time frame that a new EVO model dropped so ppl chose the 3D or that new, faster/better model. Crazy to think HTC used to be a top name in the phone scene. Like on par with Samsuck. Straight iPhones since. Well had a Samsung after the EVOs then back to iPhones. I was a junior in HS when the OG iPhone dropped, worked an “internship” welding at a fab shop for $6/hr, and got it after school had started. My mother thought I was nuts paying that much for a phone but to be the first iPhone in my high school was beyond worth it lol then first to jailbreak, got the “miss popular” girl’s # in my grade thanks to jailbreaking 😉, thought I was the sh!t being on safari in the back row of class lol those teachers had no clue of what their future would hold with technology on phones. Anyhow, I didn’t buy into the 3D TVs after the EVO 3D, saw it was a pathetic fad, and invested in a RCA 32-inch 1080i (yes “i” and not “p” lol) LCD TV at the cheap cost of $650 😂🤣 which to this day it’s the spare TV that gets moved round the house for various reason. Plug a fire stick or Roku device and BAM..got a smart TV that’s over 15 years old lol RCA has earned its strips with me and gave me well beyond my money’s worth on that thing and the picture is dead honest still decent. By all means not great but there’s plenty more worse. Has served as my parent’s TV in their bed room, a PC monitor of mine, been thru prob 5-6 houses/moves, girlfriends and breakups, everything. Best $650 I ever spent. Loved this episode!! Keep the great content coming bro!!

    PS Vita is such an amazing handheld. I swear Sony tried to kill it intentionally with their ridiculous proprietary SD cards and the Vita game library was quite limited unless you are a fan of JRPGs. At least it's been hacked so that you can use normal microSD cards in it now and run tons of emulators on it, it's an absolutely amazing system when it's jailbroken. Definitely my favorite handheld system of all time

    That iSmell seems like a great idea to me. Being able to pump smells out while playing a VR game, for example, would seriously add to the Immersion. The smell of burning or gun powder for a war game, or the smell of flowers for one of those calming VR experiences, or literally anything else. How the hell did this idea not take off? Even if you had to sell specific 'smell packs' to use for each particular game or app. I would buy those up in minute.

You just finished a round of Tarkov and want to switch over to Minecraft. The fresh breeze smell is overtaken by the old gunpowder smell. -Resolution. How many vials would you be willing to refill/maintain/pay some service to maintain? You could have tailored scents for certain games but 5 scents for 10 games is a rack full of 50 scents that all run empty. I have always been intrigued by the idea of incorporating the neglected senses into VR, but currently I don't think taste or scent is going to be done well.

And if you're only using like twelve of them, where would you go with the rest? (the theater chains would buy second hand touched up reels to screen six months after movies were released in the US lol... that had to stop when they tried to get the government to pass a law banning importing dvds of movies that hadn't screened at theaters yet, and everyone realised what they were doing and they were forced to start buying reels the same time they came out in the US.

    Gta 5 is fucking amazing in 3D. The only problem is Nvidia doesn't update their drivers to allow 60 Hz 1080p. It's 720p 60 Hz or 1080p 24 Hz. I haven't tried VR but on 3D TV it's amazing. A Sony W955B from 2014. They killed 3D off too fast. Right before it became great really. VR in current form is a real fail imo because almost nobody can afford, place or use it. If some glasses and a blu-ray player are a problem what is a full-on helmet and all that specialized hardware and those cables? Kinekt and other games with 3D TV's that sell real movement like the PS move did would absolutely rocket off the shelves today.

    @@zteaxon7787 I was going to mention something on these lines. I had a nice Sony 3D LED TV and gaming on it was awesome due to the high hardware based refresh rate. Mine was 120Hz at a time when 1080p monitors with anything above 60Hz weren't a thing. Yes I know this mean very little today but for the average console gamer, having that kind of response is awesome. (yes, consoles did not support that refresh rate but later, PC did and that kept these TVs relevant). I only replaced mine because I upgraded to a 4K model, also from Sony.
