    I sure don't want a turbo 4 cyl. engine I would rather see them making it a option to have a updated 4 liter with a 8 or 10 speed transmission. The small turbo engines are not going to hold up!

    Unfortunately, Toyota is probably going to use the 2.4 liter turbo four from the Tacoma. Maybe the Hybrid Max version could be used as well. No other Toyota will be using that old 4.0 liter V6.

    You can think that, but that's not a given. I would be surprised if they start giving discounts on 2024s or older 5 gens (alleged anecdotally) considering what you said about prices on pre-2025s going up due to the V6. I think all 4Runners will be very pricey for the average buyer, but it's always been an expensive vehicle going back to the 80s. A 1996 4Runner Limited V6 cost more than a base Mercedes-Benz sedan of the same year.

    Happy to see the possibilities coming true. I have to wonder how good a V6 they could develop if they weren’t being “urged” to regulate the emissions so much. They should limit the hybrid power trains in the 4Runner to keep the price from competing with their higher end models.

    @@Silverfox1982 You're honestly not being sensible, to be on this page complaining then. It is too late to be complaining about the obvious, which should've set in once you saw the other redesigns in 2021, 2022, and last year. Surely a GX 550 or its competitors are what you should be focused on? Not the base offering of the midrange SUVs? The midlevel Land Cruiser Prado has never done better than a 4.0L NA V6 for gas vehicles, so your expectations are misplaced. The 4Runner briefly had a V8 to rival the Trailblazer and Explorer. Those are now gone or unibody TTV6. You can huff and puff about it, but the GX 550 exists for customers like you. I find it stupid the 250 doesn't offer the turbocharged V35A, but that's corporate making odd decisions that betray USA requests. You people annoying complain about no V8, negating this issue comes from the top of the chain 300 Series loosing a V8 in the first and triggering a domino effect. The second the stupid chief of the 300 program agreed to not offer a V8 about 10 years ago for the flagship redesign, this handicapped every TNGA-F model below it, forcing midsize models into being turbo 4s at best. These complaints are too little, too late. People told you guys this for years and you didn't believe em and mocked em too. Now it's becoming official, you're pounding your chests like you call the shots. The 2.4L turbo has been leaked since 2019 as the next generation engine, but now it's too late to beg for changes. You're not getting 300 hp, unless you get the 326 hp hybrid. Otherwise, buy a GX or go somewhere else for the time being.

    @@nwezetx1 How is insensible to expect more from the largest car company in the world? There is no reason that the 4R couldn’t make 300 hp. Give it a detuned version of the 3.4T, GX could make 349 and 4R 300ish. Also, don’t even pretend that the new GX wasn’t also rumored to possibly get the turbo 4 within weeks of its release from reputable sources. You keep replying to me like I was planning on buying one of them. I already got mine, I’m just concerned for Toyota’s direction they’re headed and disappointed. That is all. Thanks for spirited conversation. Cheers🍻

  • @nwezetx1

    @nwezetx1

    @@Silverfox1982 300ish? I don't think that's necessary. Too low tbh, if using the turbo V6 engine. 2.4T should've been offered still, with the 3.4 V6 offered in 4Runner TRD Pro and Trailhunter at 345 hp or hybrid 4 at 326. Land Cruiser V6 at 348 in First Edition and later availability in future MY top trim. GX 550 should've been 380-390, then upgrading LX 600 to 414 for 2025 and LX 700h at 480. GX 550h 2.4L hybrid is instead being sold alongside the 3.4L GX 550, while the rest (250, 4R) make due with strictly 4 cylinders. I have known this for at least 7 years now, when it was highlighted that no new naturally aspirated V6 blocks would be developed per a detailed documentation. I'm just mad some people are barely having this conversation, when it's too late to make a difference. Back in 2019-21 these warnings about the 2.4T could've been taken seriously and fought against. Instead it was a bunch of "trust me bro" skepticism. Well, it's happened lol. Corporate Toyota is copying the extremes Ford has taken on past vehicles, but doubled down in worse ways. Ecoboost became the top engine in some upper F-150 trims and the last generation Expedition. Toyota did the same thing to the Land Cruiser 300 and other full size SUVs. Ranger debuts with no V6, only I4T because the design couldn't fit V configuration engines yet. Toyota goes with a 2.4T for the Tacoma in response, considers V35A V6, vetoes it ultimately leaving I4 only. Well, there's your answer.
