Subaru needs to step their game up with more power and better styling. They need to replace the 2.5L NA engine with a 2.0L turbo across the lineup and change the exterior and interior design. This car, even with the "redesign", is old - it has the same engine and styling as two generations ago, which debuted in 2014. The CRV and RAV4 are far ahead of the Forester.

Have a 22 Forester Wilderness and have been screaming about the engine forever. Extremely adequate but come on another twenty five horsepower and now we’re moving. Another fifty now you feel excited. It’s a great vehicle but Subaru cuts corners and calls it safety and reliability. Put the Rav 4 hybrid engine since Toyota owns part of Subaru. Engine is efficient and more horsepower.

On paper, the engine and transmission sound like a carry over, but Subaru assured us the engine got some extensive changes to the internals and they have reprogrammed the torque curve so it makes more low end power and its achieved at a much lower RPM. The CVT is also an updated version of the transmission from the Wilderness trim.

I had three Foresters but once the Turbo went away and only the 2.5 engine remained, I regretfully gave up on it. I've driven both 2.5 and 2.4 Turbo Outbacks and the 2.4 simply walks away with things, getting nearly the same gas mileage (provided you have a light foot) but will handle any expressway or mountain situation without complaint. Hopefully the Forester Hybrid, a year or so away, will offer the missing piece torards returning to Forester. Bigger wheels on sport and touring are not encouraging.

It’s okay. Subaru isn’t ever been known for their beautiful automotive design. I’ve owned many Acuras and a Volvo, but my wife recently really wanted an Outback. It’s been a great car so far. I’ve been thinking about what my next car will be, and I’ve liked the Forester. I love that they added the cool seats. The only issue I have with the Forester is not having the optional turbo anymore. I would hope the hybrid trim coming out will add some power but I won’t hold my breath. I’d cross shop this against the Outback, Legacy (which is going away), Acura RDX and Integra. The forester seems like it’s a sweet spot of offering lots of luxury items, not requiring premium but that engine is nothing to strive for to drive.

The current gen looks better on the outside but the inside looks better on the new one.

It's about time they put a birds eye view on the forrester! Better late than never. It should also be on the new outback, if they are not too lazy to incorporate it. Us baby boomers, who grew up with our Subarus, can use that help. I was very disappointed last year and started looking elsewhere . They have my attention again.

Well, because people were whining about the more aggressive look so they softened it but probably a bit too much.

It’s very generic looking which, is what most of the segment is. So the front end actually reminds me of the traverse. Feels like Subaru is still a few years behind the competition but that probably keeps cost in check.

Finally some colorful interiors! Every carmaker needs to start offering more colors on their interiors. For this new Forester, I truly hope Subaru has updated their dreadful Starlink infotainment system. If it's as bad as their older versions, it is reason enough not to buy this car. Then there is the exterior styling which is so generic and bland it's insulting.

I'm really getting tired of manufacturers adding tech and vinal and charging more money. I don't want any of that stuff, I just want cloth seats, basic radio, mechanical locking center diff and AC.

Own a 2023 Forester Wilderness and more I see this, I’m happy I didn’t wait. While it’s growing on me, the new one just looks very generic and deviates from that wagon-like toaster that I feel in love with. Also, not much new tech or features worth upgrading to when the lease ends. Overall, it’ll sell well, but I just ain’t into it.

I think Subaru has some tough times ahead. This redesign plus not giving their customers the hybrid they wanted. I think this will be a tough sales year. Maybe they will pack on incentives. Time will tell.

Glad I got one before they put that new infotainment screen in the Forester. I prefer a nice mix of touchscreen and hard buttons/dials. I had a chance to use this big screen in an Outback loaner and absolutely hated it. Agree with all these guys joking it looks like a Ford; it does. I'll stick with my 2022 Wilderness.

I know people think it looks like a ford (it does). But it kinda reminds me of the first gen which was in itself very generic. Subaru has never had great design language for their cars even the WRX had some pretty awful years. At least the pricing is decent but the upper trims are in real need of that hybrid. It boggles my mind they put startex on the sport but removed it from the sport on the crosstrek. The prices aren’t that different.
