2025 Acura MDX First Look | Sharper Looks With 100% More Touchscreen
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
2025 brings a modest update to the best-selling 3-row luxury SUV in America, the Acura MDX. What's changed? Basically they adjusted the exterior styling and they gave customers what they had been asking for: more features, a streamlined lineup, and no more silly trackpad! That's right, for 2025 the MDX gets a touchscreen infotainment system that's easier to use. It's not just about the touch interface however, they reworked the entire software package with Google integration and map projection in the instrument cluster.
How does the rest of the MDX change? Well we get new grilles, new wheels, some new paint colors and some fairly minor exterior tweaks. On the inside you don't need to get the Type S to get massaging seats anymore, you'll find those in the Advance trim as well. Type S, that now gets all the premium touches you'd expect in a top trim including all the features from the Advance trim and a 31-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system.
The move away from Panasonic audio systems is a huge shift for Acura. We don't know where it will go, but I'd guess that we'll see more B&O audio systems in the future.
Engines and transmissions? Those are the same as before. There's a 3.5L V6 in most trims making 290 HP and 267 lb-ft, and a 335 HP turbo V6 if you get the Type S. Both engines get the 10-speed automatic, Type S gets standard SH-AWD while the regular model starts with FWD but makes the trick AWD system optional.
We don't know what the MSRP will be yet, but you can bet it'll be a bit more than the outgoing 2024 MDX.
What do you think? Did Acura do enough?

It actually worked well once you were used to it. Given the choice I'd rather have both but I have a trackpad car, a click wheel car, and a touchscreen car and I generally prefer the trackpad. Barely have to move my hand and the screen doesn't get covered in finger prints. My second favorite is the click wheel.

The next is that! We have demanded bigger room at the third row. Went to test drive but my teenage kiddos will struggle on a road trip at the third row. Wish they did that as well when they did the touch screen
I own a 23' MDX and I never disliked the touch pad, it only took me a few days to get used too. I will say that the one major thing the MDX taught me was that I don't really care for those massive infotainment screens that look like iPad attached to the car. After your settings are in place and with either Carplay or Andriod Auto I find myself not really worrying about about whats going on in the infotainment. Even while using the map functions the size isn't a problem. I enjoy the balance of physical buttons and understated design of the MDX interior quite a bit. The smaller than standard screen size fits the vehicle well.

I bought a 2024 last summer so, I'm in the same boat as you. And I agree about the infotainment stuff. My biggest issue, which they haven't fixed (and won't) is the size of the third row. I wish they would have given the MDX the same cabin dimensions as the Pilot with a more (adult) useable third row and the larger storage well for the 2nd row middle seat, or just extra storage for luggage, groceries, etc. Otherwise, it's a great car.

@@chrislaswell5572 I'm hoping they do that with the next generation. Pilot or Lexus TX size third row.
Nice update however the piano black should have been thrown out with the touch pad. There's way too much of it.
Wish they could improve the mpg. 21 mpg highways is truck mileage and a 523hp BMW X5 50i gets better.
they should’ve kept the touchpad AND made it a touchscreen. i like piano back so that doesn’t bother me, it’s not even around the cup holder area which is matte
Wish they kept the old Type S wheels and bump the HP to 400
Better but still too much piano black

@@cablebrain9691 +1 on the shifter,* actually I'd prefer a traditional console shifter (column stalk next) - unfortunate.... Acura has had a number of refresh opportunities to address that. Lack of a spare is lame...... if there is no spare underneath as someone else suggested, and if underfloor space remains the constraint, the spare doesn't have to be the same size, IE width, as the regular tires, just same overall (and thus rolling) diameter, and the wheels can be different size as well as long as there is brake and other mechanical apparatus clearance. So, you can have a skinny spare - as long as you don't drive it as fast and dynamically as you normally would..... til you can get your flat fixed or replaced. *The 2nd gen NSX even had the same fakakta shifter. Ayrton Senna would have been very displeased!

Excellent updates and 31 speakers!!! Still wish for a couple of other things, but no deal breakers. And they really need to move the 2nd row vents to the ceiling and add 3rd row vents as well.
Acura had one of the best sounding audio systems with ELS. It will be interesting to hear what the change to B&O sounds like. Thankfully the terrible touchpad infotainment is gone.
V6 and physical buttons 😍
This is a very nice refresh. Well done Acura
Black trims, black accents, or Night packages are way over done these days. I much prefer body-colored/silver trims and accents.
Yes! Now ditch the touchpad in the RDX too please!!

Yes hurry so I can buy one
Type S the front big vent I like the most. Looks very aggressive.
I was hoping for more, particularly a touchscreen integrated into the dash instead of sitting atop of it. I was also hoping that they would have retained the mouse pad so that you could use if you didn't want to use the touchscreen.
good looking from the outside, center console a bit too busy seems like getting squeezed together. Biggest issue is still the smaller head room in 2nd/3rd row compare to other SUVs, even vs Pilot.
That infotainment was keeping me from considering Acura. I love that you can get a bench with all trims. That advanced trim looks very appealing to me. I definitely don't need 355 HP.
Alex is one of the best in the biz - well done overview.
Nice updates. Does it come with digital rear view mirror?
I like the design on both. and i like the fact that grill themselves are more open to let more air in.
Finally touch screen came back!!
Are they now using the full screen for the backup camera or still that sill split?
I think this looks great. The MDX was already well executed so the upgrades are welcome

Pre-refresh Type S looks better to me but I’m biased. This refresh front fascia looks a little too “boy racer”, especially if they didn’t actually make any mechanical changes (intercoolers) that would necessitate the design (not saying they didn’t make mechanical changes, I don’t know - just that it’s even sillier if they didn’t).

Finally something we agree on. If this had like 20-30 more HP, it'd be best in class.
Excellent summary
While everyone is busy releasing their first take on the new 4 Runner, Alex puts out a quality stuff on the updated MDX
The “advance trim” is a much cleaner look. I find those cooling grills on the other one to be clunky looking and they take away from the overall looks of the car. The new Mazda CX 5 offers body matched paint trim cladding around the wheels and along the lower body…on the base model. It also has stitching on the dash which is a soft touch material as are the interior doors.Mazda gives you a lot for a lot less.
I actually like the touchpad, it works very well in my Acura.

The ELS Sound System in my 22 MDX Advance is Outstanding! The new B & O may be a trade off for the Touchscreen conversion. IMHO, Acura should have included BOTH - a Touch screen and athe TTIP touchpad. When I shopped for new MDX in July 2021, reviewing it On Line watching numerous videos and then seing it Live at dealerships - I was Hooked. Even the TTIP could not detract me from going for it. In 2019, when I was very tempted to get a newly design ed RDX , it was the TTIP that turned me off Immediately. I leased the 2019 MDX instead (it was great SUV too).
they could not resist to splash a bucket full of piano black plastic in the most critical places. that combined with the touchscreen will turn this interior into fingerprint central in a day. i prefer the touchpad. why not mention cx-90 once, Alex?
@damilolaakanni
Ай бұрын
I guess it's because the CX-90 doesn't have a luxury badge in front. Besides, the CX-90 is cheaper than the MDX on the low end. CX-90 starts at about $40k for a base model. You'll have to spend about $10k more for a base MDX, at which point you might as well get a mid-range CX-90.

We bought our 2024 RDX and didn't mind the touchpad. At least the screen is free from fingerprints. I still prefer the buttons in our older Acuras, though.
Love the availability of 2nd row bench with re-configuration for captains chair.
Did they finally add overhead vents for the 3rd row? That very absence in previous models has kept me from buying it previously because I travel with my dog in a crate in the cargo area.
Is the cafe mocha color, the saddle brown for the seats NOT available in Type S 2025 MDX?
So good looking
Yay for quieter!
It would be nice if you could remove the 3rd row in addition to that middle seat.

yep but I'm not a fan of a vertical screen. It needs to be tilted back a little bit. This was annoying on the new Pilot on top of it's small screen of course.
@SheepNizzle
Ай бұрын
@@volcalstone As the owner of both a 2016 Pilot Touring and a 2024 Pilot Trailsport, the angle of the display is MUCH better in the 2024. Being upright, it no longer suffers from the awful glare issues that the 2016 has. The 2024 screen isn't too small in my eyes either, it's plenty useable. I'm a big carplay user, so I have that on 99.9 of the time and in that case I actually prefer a screen of its dimensions and aspect ratio. I don't understand all these ultrawide screens when most of the time people are just using it for maps and navigation, which does much better with a portrait oriented display. You need to see what's ahead of you on a map, I couldn't care less what's left and right of me and the ultrawide displays just seem like an awful lot of wasted space.
@volcalstone
Ай бұрын
@@SheepNizzle I used to own the 2019 Pilot Touring. Imo the angle is needed for any touchscreen. If it was a none one then yeah a vertical one would be better. Yes there was glare but you could always put on a matte screen protector for that. As for a portrait display it all depends on the setup imo. Like in the F-150 Lighting I actually prefer the smaller regular screen instead. When I think about it now if the screen is built-in to the dash more then a vertical screen will work best while if it's a tablet like screen then it's better at an angle for me. For your widescreen concern. To me I love them as you could fit more things in that screen. I could have the map going while having audio displayed on the side of it. There just isn't enough space in a regular 16:9 display. To me it doesn't have to be ultrawide like in the Genesis line but something like what you see in a Kia instead. I want to say those are 21:9 I believe while the Geneses are more 32:9. The problem with this new MDX display and UI is that there is always that nav bar no matter what so that cuts into the widescreen space. To me I'd rather have hard buttons for those elements and just have a full display of Carplay for example. I currently have a Kia EV6 GT and the displays are perfect. The screens on those new Tundra are super nice and big tho.
Hi this and the redesigned Nautilus 2024 refresh are on my list of maybes for next car purchase in 3-4 months

When will the new RDX be out?
They butchered my boy. Actually liked the touch pad. Yes it didn’t make sense for someone hopping from car to car. But once learned it was fantastic, which is what matters in the real world. Hate pecking at a screen. And oh boy, that B&O stereo has some big shoes to fill. I fear it may fall short as B&O systems have been very underwhelming everywhere else I’ve experienced them. Still too much piano black and not enough front storage.

Great! Now I can trade in my Honda Pilot. I miss the sportier suspension in the MDX but was no fan of the infotainment. Good job Acura.
Alex that dash space below the screen is giving such a claustrophobia and cramped vibes to me
Are they going to produce hybrid model? The same or improved hybrid system that RLX had would be great. I’d definitely buy one as it would be faster and more efficient

Pretty cool! I like all the new upgrades except the front grill. I prefer the previous one.
Good changes. No need for a bigger screen. Just the touches they needed to remain appealing. The only other logical choice is the new cx-90 from mazda. The mdx is now truly competitive with the touchscreen. I also like the mild changes to the front. The last thing would be to reduce the piano black in the cabin which are scratch magnets. Overall, the listened to their buyers and stuck to what works. 🎉😊
The infotainment touchpad was the deal-breaker for me. It is finally in the list of possible cars to get.

0:48 Nice Eames chair!
*gm* was one of the first manufacturers to introduce Google services built into their native infotainment systems in mainstream brands like Chevrolet, GMC, and now Buick. Luxury brands like Acura are having to add this tech to compete with what *gm* has been doing for years. Koreans and Japanese are just now receiving touchscreens and software that’s comparable. It’s a true eye opener of how far behind they are in tech.
