Imagine going back 10 years in time telling that we will have a family car that does 0-60 in under 3 seconds for 54k. And then consider that we have also had an insane 20% compounded inflation since then

This is simply not true whatsoever. Tesla uses rollout for their posted claimed 0-60 times. This will be 3.2 sec 0-60 without rollout. A m3 or m4 xdrive is 2.8 sec.. the m3 and m4 will also have the upper hand after the 60 mark and would destroy it in a roll. Theres no world where this beats a m3 or m4. Ur talking nonsense. Also to compare the price like a bmw m3 doesn't have far superior brakes, actual luxury interior, carbon fiber and other high grade materials, etc... go look at the interior of a bmw m3 compared to this and get back to me. 😂

Just FYI regarding the lack of a carbon ceramic brakes on the performance model. For this price range, it makes way more sense to have traditional steel brakes. When you start doing track days in this, you are going to be replacing brake parts at a much higher interval. And when replacing a carbon ceramic setup can be $10,000 or more, it gets painful unless you're stupid rich. So even though the CC brakes may offer better track performance, it's much more practical to stick with steel brakes (which also work and feel better in normal street driving to)

Can't wait to take delivery! One thing that's not great is the depreciation on my current car. Tesla will only give you one quote and that's it and it's totally under valued. I get it's a wholesale quote... I work in the exotic car industry... but I'll sell it myself online. Thanks for the great review Marques. the changes to the car - suspension and brakes, and keeping weight down, in addition to more speed/ power, are really essential for someone like me who likes specific older cars for their suspension and handling and driving experience, and because they're nimble and fun on back roads. So I think you totally got to the crux of the Tesla issue for serious drivers / car mechanics, etc. in this review.

And if that bothers you that much, you can likely get an 18 inch aftermarket wheel for it to regain some if not most of that range back. But in my experience with my Model Y, long distance travel has gotten a lot easier overall in a Tesla because they keep adding more and more superchargers in many places, so going as far as you absolutely can on one charge is less of an issue than how fast can you charge at each station you do stop at. Or as Out of Spec Motoring calls it, "supercharger hopping". While you do have to stop more often, your overall trip is usually faster because you're spending less time at said superchargers compared to doing long deep charges at fewer ones that the car tends to do if you don't want to optimize the trip speed. At one stop, it told me to deep charge for about 40 minutes to make it to the next supercharger which was about two hours away. If I was eating at a restaurant, that might've been fine. But since it was the middle of the night, I instead picked the next supercharger in between where I was charging and where the car wanted me to go. I only had to charge another 5 minutes to make it to the next one, then stopped at that one for maybe 15 minutes, compared to if I did the 40 minutes it originally wanted me to do. This doesn't always work of course, because if the supercharger is full or you're at a V1/V2 supercharger, you'll probably have to wait. Should also be interesting as more non-Tesla EVs are able to use the V3/V4 superchargers and how they'll impact Tesla owners.

This performance Model 3 is eligible for the $7,500 Federal Tax credit (making it $45,500!), whereas the RWD and LR AWD versions are not eligible - due to the batteries is the performance version being made in the USA whereas the others are not. Gonna get my daughter a model 3 or a mache e. Biggest factors right now are screen in front of driver for speed check, Apple CarPlay, and the capacitive buttons instead of stock.
