2024 Modified Comparison: Yamaha YZ450F Vs. Kawasaki KX450
Спорт
Keefer walks you through two great 2024 450 MX machines. Each motorcycle has an aftermarket muffler system (FMF/PC), Vortex ECU, re-valved suspension, Twin Air Powerflow kit, ETS MX18 fuel and Dunlop MX3S/MX14 tires. With some mods, which bike is better for which type of rider. We will walk you through each mod, what it does to the machine and what it can do to the power and handling of each machine. 230 pound blue collar rider, Eddie Laret joins Kris for a discussion on what each of them prefer.

Great video! Thanks for the help! Very responsive to emails, so now I’m a follower! -n8 from va
My 24’ yz450 is so good, absolutely love it
Your friend in video is a class act, don't talk bad about common man and Blue collar guy
The biggest thing for me with these two is that Kawi usually does discounts or incentives where in my area it’s hard to find with Yamaha. Incredible bikes both of them.
Love the shirt Eddie!
Chris and Eddy good talk info.
Yo keef mxengineers 350 map version 2 for the Yamaha really tames it down, give it a try
Great video dude. Can you get the same results from the one program ECU from twisted development which is like 400 bucks. Or does it have to be the 10 stage or programmed ecu. And is there a difference

I think the one stage you’re referring to is a stock ECU remap. It’s not the same result. You will not get the power (mid/top/over-rev) like you can with Vortex.

@@Keeferinctesting ok thanks for the clarification. Hey do you know Kevin Palmer
I'm a C class vet rider and I'm super happy with my 2024 KX450! I took the air box flap out and I'm running the first tune you posted. Great linear power and it lugs well if you aren't asking too much from it. Will a slip on from any other year fit?

yes previous years slips will fit

How much of a hp gain can you get out of a 250f HRC with a pipe and an ecu from twisted ??
@Keeferinctesting

That’s something to ask TD but my guess would be close to 4-5HP with muffler and tuned vortex.

What is that other Kawi? I see what looks like some showa kit suspension on it. Is that little Keefers bike?

Why the vortex and not just the use the map tuner on the yz
@Keeferinctesting

YZ tuner is great but I need a wider parameter and Vortex has that. I can make it more linear/long feeling with a Vortex. Hard to explain to people/riders who have not experienced a Vortex/GET or aftermarket ECU. Not all bikes need an aftermarket ECU but some bikes respond really well to them. These two do.

Stephen I Get what keefer is saying by linear, but would certainly argue that a bike with too much power could just as easily be controlled with a throttle cam and the power tuner app until you need more power. I would especially argue the case if you are just trying to tune one specific spot in the powerband like the Yamaha. Nobody likes a powerband that signs off up top right as you go off the jump face. 450s are the ones that suffer the most from lack over rev and The Yamaha seems has one of the better engine characteristics that eliminates the need to shift in high rpms. That is why I went with the Yamaha. As a vet rider, The Yamaha tuner app is just too good for me to believe that any normal consumers direction should be an ecu on this bike or that you can't tame it down to be more vet friendly. You can up the fuel and dump the timing on this thing and turn it into a dog. Not great for a racetrack. Kris is chasing a more linear response to his twisting of the throttle and still isn't happy with it even with one of the best at his fingertips. I feel the tamer with his current maps would be too linear for him, It is for me on is power tuner apps on a dry slick track that I've been riding and he's way faster than me. Maybe he's tried them? Maybe he's to cool for them? But i can assure you it will soften the feel of the bike down low and have you into the mid and upper rpm range with a much bigger smile on your face . My argument against the Yamaha it is more rigid and maybe that is what will always lead to more rider fatigue . I'm still waiting to do some comparisons before I say for sure. I plan on testing with a 2016 kx450f that was my go to before the Yamaha. I've ridden them once back to back and my modded 2016 Kawi power feels similar to the Yamaha down low ( The kawi has a stock throttle tube, Yamaha has a tamer) but it signs off up top which is not ideal on certain tracks. The Showa suspension (SFF Spring Fork) feel a little more dead on the kawi in comparison to the stock Yamaha ( sprung for my weight) so ill probably add some rebound to get them feeling more similar. We will see.
Pre gen kawi needed new bottom end after 20h. Yami runs 300h easy.
You know what made my 23 yz450f more linear? A throttle tamer. Your connection torque map without it was still wearing me out. The tamer and now I could probably add some power to the map in places. It makes that much of a difference. Note: The tamer is not ideal for deep tracks unless you like chicken winging it. 2nd Note : I also ride a 2016 kx450f so no bias here. Have not ridden a 24.
I was told the yz needs an off set? Yes, no?

The 23/24 is alot more of a "turn" bike than the older model which has a more stable feel. You could use an offset to get it more stable.

PT is an awesome brand. Still think they’re great. However, stock is depleted and once PT got bought out, there has been no bars to purchase. Don’t know exactly what’s going on with them. Renthal is a great bar and they have stock. Only two bars that I have chosen for myself. If you can find PT, continue to run them. Good bar! Watch out for knock offs that are out there however. 🙄
