As a first time Mazda owner and a CX-90 owner, here are my thoughts on the car. (1) The interior is gorgeous, but it lacks storage space. That center console is very small so we just bought a side organizer for more storage. (2) If you do get the captain’s chair option with the center console, it limits foot space in the 3rd row. We have the bench seat option so we’re fine there. (3) The car gets great gas mileage for a 6 cylinder engine. On our last outing, we got 30.8 MPG! We average about 24 MPG on the road. (4) The infotainment system is controlled by the knobs. It’s weird at first but you get used to it. While the Mazda menu is outdated, you’ll rarely use it as you have Apple CarPlay or the Android equivalent. The smaller infotainment screen in lower trims is not touch screen. (5) while you can fit smaller adults in the 3rd row, it’s better suited for kids and small adults. I’m 6’ tall and did fit back there with the 2nd row seats all the way forward, but I wouldn’t want to be there for a long drive. (6) The handling is amazing. It feels like I’m driving a normal car. Doesn’t feel big at all. Hauls ass when you step on it. Also it’s a inline-6 engine so you are not over stressing the engine like most new cars now that have the v4 turbos. (7) The car is great overall with some short comings, but it was never meant to be a family hauler. It’s meant to be a entry luxury car that has a 3rd row seat.

Do you have rear facing convertible car seats installed? If so, how’s the space up front? I have a CX-5 and it’s too tight but when we looked at the CX-90 it didn’t seem significantly better. Kelly testing it with a clek ling isn’t helpful, that would fit fine in my CX-5. The rear facing convertibles are where most cars fall short.

Does anyone else think ceiling ventilation should be a STANDARD across every car? I mean I don't have kids, but a big, hairy, Bernese Mountain Dog/Standard Poodle, and he gets HOT in cars. He deserves proper air flow too!

New Mazda cx90 owner with a one year old. We love it! Yes the vent situation isn’t as good as others but the car cools easily and there is auto start. I think the trim is CRITICAL to finding the version that suits your family’s needs best. We have captains chairs without the center console which solves a few things: no extra place for more clutter, easy access to third row, more leg room for third row. It drives really comfortably and feels high end without the overblown price tag compared to cars with similar or even less tech/high end materials etc. Gas mileage has been amazing and tech features prioritize safety. Non touchscreen for radio doesn’t matter - we’re all using Apple car play or android auto. Also the option of the dial is chefs kiss for petite folks- no need to reach for the screen if you don’t want to! Always interesting to hear different perspectives but some of the “cons” aren’t true cons imo!

I like captains chairs because kids can walk through to the third row without having to move chairs with carseats attached, so having a center console in that second row really eliminates the ability to do that. A majority of my friends that have captains chairs in the second row went for them for the same reason. If they choose to put a center console there, they should always allow for removing it when you don't want to have it in that spot.

Hey don't get misleaded .... Well Mazda is a small company that spends a fortune on r and d .. This car is positioned to fight against X3 , q5 and glcs that are way expensive and offer less spec ... This car has a longitudinally mounted engine and engine is places behind front axle to better distributie weight that transforms to much better handling and dynamics ... Even if you look at there previous versions Mazda is the most safest cars out their ... This is rear wheel drive first and power is transmitted to front wheels when need be ... Again priced well for those people who can't afford the expensive Germans and want something premium ... Take a test drive and decide for yourself .. Hope this helps ...

@@cyrilmatthew2995 lol no one in the market for an X5 is going to consider a Mazda. And they want creature comforts that Mazda doesn't seem interested in offering. Kia/Hyundai have made their interiors phenomenal and much closer to "luxury" than what Mazda has. CX-90 is going to be a dud, sales-wise.

@@alexkimball7131 You have totally lost the context by bringing X5 in to the equation ...X3 and X 5 are miles ahead ... atleast going trI the comment Idk how you even think I compared cx90 with X5 ... to even think that shows you have no idea bro.... Interior looks and beauty are subjective and Mazda do offer better quality interior than their direct competitors ... Hyundai and Kia just recently up their game and they ain't no slouch either then it comes to the recall ....check JD power and customer reports .... Like I mentioned Mazda's approach is different ...they focus on niche buyers who know what they are getting ... Plus north Americans buyers are the most ridiculous demographic who know nothing and just buys cars for the looks and size ... They still buy this crappy over prised front wheel drive crossovers from Toyota,Lexus, Honda crossovers thinking it's 4 wheel drive and enevr appreciated good cars products like the previous inifint and new gen Mazdas ....

@@cyrilmatthew2995 I mentioned the X5 because it's remotely the same size as a CX90. Your original comment bringing in an X3 is absurd. It's 15" shorter than the CX90. No one in their right mind who's looking at a BMW would ever, ever consider going with a Mazda instead. What you seem blind to is that the modern car buyer cares about convenience features 100X more than they care about some enthusiast's idea of "drivability" and "performance" I sat in a CX90. It was lifeless and cramped inside.

As a current CX-5 owner, I was hoping this would be the solution for my growing family. I test drove it recently and found many of the same issues Kelly points out. For the curb length of the car, it doesn’t feel very big on interior space. This is the issue I have with my CX-5 so getting the CX-90 wouldn’t be as helpful as I hoped. It was a nice drive though and interior was high quality as you’d expect from Mazda.

I hope to get a CX90 when my kids are older, by then Mazda SHOULD works out all the drive-ability issues.

I test drove the CX-90 PHEV. It's great looking inside and out, has very tight and competent handling, and the materials are very nice. It definitely feels at the Acura level of luxury. But I could not get past the fact that it felt so large and heavy (I found out later that the PHEV weighs over 5300lb!) and the backseat was so cramped and small for such a large car. We ended up going with a Subaru Ascent because it had all the features we wanted at a much more affordable price, had noticeably more space in the second and third rows (while weighing around 4400lb), and top safety ratings.

It's front engine longitudinally mounted Rear wheel drive based platform for better handling and performance to compete with Germans .... Rwd biased platforms has longer hoods cos engine is behind the front axle for better weight distribution...and hoods consumes a lot space due to that which equates to less room that a front wheel based Acura or Lexus crossovers ...most reviewers don't know about it ... However this is a tweener veh that offered X3, glc level performance and spec at a competitive price ....

The high trims with beautiful but delicate interiors are meant for empty nesters not young families. The proportions are inline 6 rear wheel drive proportions. As God intended. Not 4 pot banger front wheel drive proportions. Parents with car seats should buy lower trims with leatherette or a lower but more durable grade of leather.

Seating space is very limited compared to other SUVs. Definitely liked their driving and interior design, but common give a damn touchscreen user experience for everything! Mazda really missed an excellent opportunity in midsize family vehicle category.

Don't worry, nobody worries about "Curb Length" 1:34 because that's not a thing. There's Curb Weight vs Gross Vehicle Weight but if you say "curb length" you are now talking about how long the cement is that's lining the roads and streets. Also, your mic gain is too high causing clipping and distortion in your audio. If you wear a lapel mic you don't need to shout. Maybe it's just a cheap microphone.

The hood is big and large for a reason ... The engine is mounted longitudinally as opposed to most modern front wheel drive crossovers ... So this vehucle is rear wheel drive biased and like bmws and mercs ...the enhine is begind the front axle ...that translates to better weight distribution and handling.... She talked a lot about body on frame sequios and other gm vehicles they aint spacious.... Iam assuming mazda has utilized more aluminum underpinnings that arguably reduces rust and some weight savings ... This is to compete against x3 and q5 ans glcs and gle ...as a tweener vehicle ....
