I like the Muzio family smell test right after your infotainment reviews. My family is pretty sensitive to smells so we've been looking for a 3-row SUV that has the least amount of VOC's. I read that Mazda/Japanese automakers pay attention to that kind of stuff. I know Volvo used to back in the day but I don't think they do anymore. Great overall review of the car too. It's between the CX90 and the Lexus TX coming out this fall for us.

This is an all-new platform with all-new powertrains (pretty much the worse combination for a new car) so I'm not surprised there are drivability quirks. With that said, Mazda is good at improving their vehicles over time, so I'd bet that the 2025 or 2026 CX-90 will be more a refined product.

My favorite part was when Evie said it felt like driving a regular 2-row SUV. As someone who hasn't had more than 3 passengers since my oldest got their license almost 20 years ago, I have no use for the third row. I'm VERY interested in the upcoming CX-70 however, and if this feels like a 2 row, I'm hoping *that* one will feel like an even smaller 2 row. Also, inline 6 please. It's what drew me to these new cars, and after several reviews, that PHEV seems like it still needs a lot of work. Also also, that seatbelt chime shouldn't do anything if the vehicle is in park. Fine if it goes nuts as soon as I put it in gear, but if I'm sitting there listening to music with the A/C on while I wait for someone, I don't need to wear a seatbelt.

As a current Mazda CX9 owner, frankly speaking CX90 is comprehensively improved, but only 2 Negatives points stopped my upgrade plan. 1: The second row headroom space is more narrow than CX9. 2: 8AT transmission shifting gears is frustrating than CX9 6AT, especially 1-2-3. Slower gear changes than CX9 6AT as well. Hopefully Mazda could hear about this and improve it.

And I don’t really know anyone who owns a Mazda 🤷‍♂️ as well as my Opinion of Hyundai and Kia, I know that they are popular and well priced, however I have NEVER met a single person bragging about their 1991 Hyundai Sonata!!! But I have met MANY people say my 1990s Honda Accord has 300k miles and still going strong!!! Same with Toyota owners that say the same thing!!! Never really heard that much from other brands.. I tested the CX-90 but the interior was not roomy for my intentions, specifically 3rd row is cramped esp if you try to give 3rd row more legroom the. 2nd row gets cramped as well. Just look at the legroom Micah has when in the 2nd row. Ended up getting the new Pilot which wasn’t even on my radar but it’s 3rd row is very good and handling is very good for something that FWD biased and isn’t a RWD. Handles pretty well. Highlander is very good if you don’t need the 3rd row or use it rarely or need it in a pinch. I will need it frequently. Mazdas make very good cars though, reliable too. Mazda lost some ground 20yrs ago, I think primarily due to rust issues but the last decade they have made a turn around.

Curious on the gear selector, why take a really tried and true system and turn it upside down. The rest, seems pretty nice. I'd take the highlander over it and I am a mazda owner.

I fear Mazda is losing its way a bit...should have updated the wonderful CX5 rather than add the faux trail-runner CX50 (with that wheel/tire set?? gimme a break), which is just different enough to be not as good. And CX90 could fill its own non-niche: too $$ for value shoppers but too cheap for premium buyers -- and it comes with shakedown issues in the drivetrain to boot. Also, Mazda seems clueless about hybrid tech. The PHEV version of this gets a whole 25MPG overall...wow

Inline 6 ruined by a "mild" hybrid. Resulting in quircks and a rough weird ride. Inline6 has to be yanked out for many parts replacements, they out thought themselves. Acura RLX hybrid for ex is seamless and super smooth. Damn thing flies and is faster than CX90. Dual clutch tranny and it gets better MPG. Mazda f.....up here. Theyre sitting in showrooms.
