2024 Mazda CX-90 vs Hyundai Palisade - Worth the $10k Difference?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
2024 Mazda CX-90 vs Hyundai Palisade review by The Straight Pipes. The Mazda CX-90 Turbo S Premium Plus (Turbo Signature in Canada) is putting down 340 horsepower 369 lb-ft torque from a mild hybrid 3.3L Turbo Inline 6 cylinder (319 hp on regular). The Hyundai Palisade Urban has 291 horsepower 262 lb-ft torque from a 3.8L V6. At $63,950 CAD for the Mazda and $53,199 for the Hyundai, which one would you take?

I used to be in the camp of "wtf no android auto touch available in motion?" However, after a couple months of using the rotary dial for all my inputs in my 2017 Mazda 3, it's my preferred input method. No ugly, greasy fingerprints all over the screen, and I've got my muscle memory established to the point where I rarely look at the screen, even for firing up navigation for saved destinations. I don't think I've touched the screen once in over a year, even if the car's parked.

Yeah the controls for the infotainment in Mazda has been and always will be superior to touch in 9/10 scenarios. The only time a touchscreen is superior is if you're parked, or if a passenger is changing something. But when driving it's useless and much more distracting.

6nice try bud. the bottom line for you is that you had to rationalize and go through the learning curve, to retrain yourself to accept that you don't have a choice and are forced to using the dial.... fact is the dial is just as distracting as the touch screen. you can slice and dice this argument all day, but it all boils down to you having to glance at the screen no matter which system you have.
When you have kids and take a lot of road trips, the space matters. I've 2 MDXs over the last 10 years and it's for sure a nice vehicle but we always felt cramped in it. The pallisade feels huge, and the space makes everyone more comfortable. We absolutely love it.

I'm a Mazda SUV owner and disagree with this. Mazda is not all that desirable and they're going to get stomped on by Lexus / Acura and likely even Genesis. $63k for a Mazda SUV is going to be a tough proposition for many. As an entusiast, there's no way I would ever trade my CX-5 for the CX-90, even though I could afford to do so. $50k-ish is a sweet spot and above this, I'm going with lux name plates. Pretty sure most would follow suit. More than anything, the wonky hybrid powertrain is a deal breaker, fuel efficiency be damned..

Hearing from an engineer familiar with the Mazda transmission, it’s a conventional transmission with an internal clutch pack serving as the “wet clutch”. He claims this possibly limits the ability to launch from a standstill, and also makes it incredibly complex to modulate as it’s acting as a torque converter at a standstill, needing to prevent rollback but also engage on demand. Hopefully it was engineered for reliability…

@@platano4924 Well to be precise I don't take bmw or Mercedes at all, just saying hypothetically I would take a "lesser model" of them over the high end Mazda or Hyundai.
Can I get some context guys. New to the channel, love your reviews and been binging on a few. But what’s the history behind the visor ‘full pass’ ritual?
@TheStraightPipes

The sun visor has to slide in order to block the sun. Little visor extensions don’t count because the sun can still blind you above and below it
I would luv to see you play with the touch screen while driving in heavy traffic.....good luck....rotary knob is the way to go
Don't play with my emotions with the box test 😢
I rather the Mazda .. luxurious & will last way longer than that Hyundai

WAY LONGER.
I use Turn Signal Cameras all the time. I use it as a check when I merge on the highway mostly and it is awesome. Maybe there is just way more aggressive traffic in Massachusetts.
In the second row of the palisade, why is the driver side seat different than the passenger side?
I cannot believe how fast that mazda went into production
Also great comparison, these are at the top of our list! Thank you! We may just have to get both because my partner loves the cushy experience coming from a Highlander, and I prefer a more engaging drive coming from an e46 wagon..

@@Natethegreat200c This solves every issue I had with the CX-90 (stiff seats, no touchscreen, and stiffer ride that should be adjustable imo) and offers everything the Palisade offered plus more towing capability too. I’ll either get a Pilot Trailsport (wife’s choice) or this when I replace my 18 Grand Cherokee.

@@JaronamoCreates I am concerned about reliability when it comes to jeep. My dad’s ‘20 ram 1500 hemi has had quite a few issues here and there. Has yours been reliable?
Hi Yuri, so you still like the seat of Mazda cx90? I remember you don't like the seats in Mazda cx50. Good reviews bro more power to you and Jacob 🍻
OMG THE BOX TEST. I asked about it last vid and got hype but alas i've been bamboozled.
For me, the sweet spot in the CX-90 line up is going to be the 280 HP engine in the Premium Plus trim level. It’s down a little bit on horsepower than the high output 6 and is missing a couple of little luxury features like the power steering wheel or rear ventilated seats, but it does check off all the other boxes … panoroof, front ventilated seats, and bonus, it seats three (kids) in the third row, so it has slightly more seating capacity. For nearly $10,000 less than its high output counterpart, it will retain the awesome handling.

280HP is so little. I need at least 500HP.

I totally agree with everything mazda. It is something you just need to experience it. Once you have a mazda you won’t like anything else. It is just better.
What year was the Palisade tested?
Me and my wife purchased in full the first cx-90 in midland Odessa Texas area!!!! We love ❤️ it!!!! And boy oh boy does she drive great!!!! We have 1 kid so space in third row isn’t a big deal. It’s a great great ride. MAZDA!
Great suvs. Not too fan of the premium gas and the way the sunroof opens in the Mazda. Not sure why 8 seaters are not offered at higher trims? Waiting for more reviews about how the rear wheel base awd performs for the Mazda before I make my decision. I've a 2021 subaru ascent limited and spoiled by the safety and awd system of the subaru. I'm shopping to trade it because i don't like the cvt. The new mdx sport edition was my choice, but I am waiting for more videos of Mazda awd performance and crash test results.

You can still put 87 octane in the 90 and it’s still pretty fast. Because the torque remains high, you won’t notice the lack of HP unless pushing the car
More power, better FE, better driving dynamics, more premium interior... I'll take the Mazda.
You compared Turbo signature of Mazda CX-90 which is its top of the line trim with Hyundai Pallisade Urban which is starting version of 2024 Pallisade. The top of the line Ultimate calligraphy trim of Pallisade has so many interior features that you showed in Turbo signature.
Why do America and Canada not standardise medium-grade petrol? Just like the RON95 is the minimum on sale in Europe which is an equivalent of the AKI 91.
The mazda screams BMW and I like it ngl
Last year drove Hyundai Kona with Lane Keep Assist. It was the best lane keeper I've ever drove: it keeps the best trajectory on any speed and do it very comfortable. The second place I give to Opel Grandland. Interesting is it the same over all cars in Hyundai.
You're doing god's work with getting all manufacturers to have sliding visors!!
Hopefully when they work out the kinks they can make the trans more responsive in the Mazda. Thats the only thing really that set me back knowing it’s got all that power. What brand trans is it? Also how is the torque vector awd compared to Acura??

It’s also about balancing speed and fuel economy if not a lot ppl would ate against the lack of great mpg and in- line 6 would again be cancel
Palisade/Telluride definitely are still the value king in its segment. However, I prefer the Mazda chassis, powertrain and over quality/refinement for an extra $10k if I was to keep it for 6+ years.

The Mazda has the Turbo 6 available in a medium level trim that is cheaper than this palasade. This comparison didnt actually compare apples to apples. Need more info, but both are nice.

Also you don’t need a top trim. You can get the lower HP i6 with most of the features in this car for around 50k which is the same as the loaded Pallisade before markup.

@@tmarriotti You don't think the Mazda is going to have a huge markup? They'll be in limited supply...you figure out the math. You didn't think you comment through. Also, not all Hyundai/Kia dealerships have huge markups. Do better than this.
