2024 Lexus GX on/off-road review: Previewing the LandCruiser Prado

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

While the Lexus GX has been on sale in the US for a number of years, this will be the first time it's offered in Australia and we're pretty excited about it. Not only will it get a punchy turbocharged V6 petrol engine, it'll go off-road like the best of them. Paul Maric checks it out at the international launch.

On the next-gen Ranger Wildtrak and Raptor models, for their tail lights, does anyone know what the smaller white boxes under the brakelights are for? For context, on the tail lights fornthe Wildtrak and Raptor models, the tail lights have the tail lights on the outside, with the indicators at the top, the reverse lights in the middle, the brakelights underneath, and then below the brakelights/red section are the white rectangles. Does anyone know what they are for? Thanks

I agree with you totally. I’ve always been an off-roader and always focused on that but now I have a spine injury and I struggle with chronic pain and I can no longer tour outback as corrugations absolutely destroy me. I so badly want to buy this vehicle but realise that my off-roading days are over but living in the bush the overtrail seems to make the most sense because the 18inch wheels with tyres with the larger sidewalls would make Our rural roads much more pleasant on our crapppy roads but I’d also like the massaging seats etc but it would appear that I cant have both. Such a shame, not sure which way to go 🤷‍♂️ will have to test drive both a decide.

That's not correct. I've been all over Australia, including some of the most remote parts, all on a motorcycle. Never once had a problem getting petrol. Even the outback stations have it. Consider that a motorcycle doesn't have the range of this vehicle either. The Patrol, Ranger Raptor, and many other vehicles are also petrol, and in the outback. My Prado is petrol as well. Definitely never an issue.

Currently it’s electric cars that have accelerated depreciation. It really depends which segment you’re buying in - if you’re over landing or towing I wouldn’t go near an EV. If you have home charging and primarily drive around the city an EV will be more cost effective, but just factor in the depreciation.

If you tow a travel trailer using a weight distribution hitch, a body on frame vehicle makes more sense than a unibody style vehicle. You can use max/adequate weight distribution without fear of frame stress as opposed to concern about body stress on a unibody vehicle. That for me is why a BMW or Audi is not on my list of competitors. I also like Toyota/Lexus reputation for reliability.

I think it’s great and at Aus$110,000 or UK£60,000 it is certainly competitive. The UK will probably get the LCruiser version and with the 2.8 200hp/500Nm diesel engine. Will probably cost at least as much as this Lexus due to our ridiculous CO2 fleet sales targets. They will not wish to sell many of them unless they add fines for exceeding CO2 into the basic price.

I'm sure it has both. This engine was first used by Lexus 7 years ago in LS500 luxury sedan and LC500 coupe. Should be a proven engine design by now.

11:03 are there any other vehicles than the 3 series wagon and X5 that do this? I want a tailgate like this but preferably not this vehicle.

Cx90 is 110k and that’s woeful for a soft suv This will be 120-130k at least with its badge and capability. Especially when the LX is 170-200k they’re nearly same size aren’t they? why would you buy the LX if the GX is minimum 60k cheaper
