Should You Buy The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser? Does it Live Up To Its Name?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Does the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser live up to it's name? Should you buy one?
In this video we do a deep dive into the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser in an all new series which is the 250 series. We do a detailed technical review under the hood, we take a look underneath it. We visit the exterior and interior. Then we discuss somethings we like, somethings we don't like to determine if this truck is worthy of the name Land Cruiser.

My Grandfather bought a 1996 Land Rover Discovery brand new off the lot and he said it was in and out of the shop constantly. He put 250,000 miles on it and after 10 years of issues, he donated it to the boy-scouts (he's an eagle scout himself). He then purchased a 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser with the 4.7 V8, brand new. To this day, he still has that Land Cruiser and it just hit 400,000 miles. He keeps it meticulously maintained and says it has never once let him down. He could have easily purchased a newer model over the years, but he'll be the first to tell you that he LOVES his 100 series. A true testament to Toyota reliability.

In 1996 I bought the latest Land Rover Owner magazine. There was nothing but bad news from unhappy owners, which didn't surprise me, even 25 years after driving a 'boxy' as an off-road work vehicle. Nothing had changed. I bought an early 95 Series LandCruiser diesel, and kept it for 20 more years, by which time I owned an identical model on an island in tropics. After another 12 years of 95 Series ownership I have never had a breakdown, only done regular servicing. Cost of ownership could not have been less, nor customer satisfaction greater. A front locker would have saved me having to fit my own though. 😊

I've never owned a British made LAND ROVER ANYTHING probably because I can't afford one BUT I'm a BIG FAN of the RANGE ROVER and yes I've driven a RANGE ROVER MANY TIMES WITH A V-8 .It has that SOLID CONCRETE FEEL when you drive it, full chassis frame, no uni-body abs crap.....What I'm driving now (bought it in October 3 years ago) is a, 2010 TOYOTA 4 RUNNER LIMITED, 4.0L V-6,AWD AND 4X4 (I like 4 wheel drive better because I'm locked in, continuously in 4 wheel drive) AWD your in and out, but my main question is, WHY DOES TOYOTA AND MAYBE OTHER COMPANIES MAKE IT TO WHERE THE DRIVER CAN UNLOCK THE FRONT ANTI SWAY BAR, WHY NOT JUST LEAVE IT LIKE IT IS !!??

Toyota/Lexus are still more reliable than 99% of other brands. No car brand is perfect. Toyota/Lexus always had some issues and recalls. They just had way less issues than its competitors. You can't expect modern-day, high-tech vehicles to be as reliable as a basic mechanical, no computer vehicles built in the '70s, '80s and early '90s. The recalls represents a small fraction of the total number of vehicles built by Toyota in that time period.

AMD, I have noticed some of the 1958 Editions are made by Hino just like the FJ Cruiser and T100 pickup. The simple interior of the 1958 is generally fine but the cheap door panels are a little disappointing at this price. Maybe Toyota did not want to let the nicer door panels get out of the Tahara plant that builds the more expensive Land Cruiser models. 😉 While we consider the longevity of the new turbo-hybrid powertrain, it is worth noting the legendary 2TR-FE 2.7 engine is still being used for other markets. 🤩

Which engine do you think is the best in the Land Cruiser 250, the 2.7, the 2.4, the 2.4 hybrid or the 2.8 diesel? I'm thinking of importing one from Japan and sadly they only have the 2.7L in the base trim and then diesel only. Alternative would be the Caucasus region where they get the 2.4 without the hybrid which gives you more cargo space and definitely the simplest powertrain apart from the 2.7 liter, but that only has the old 6-speed and is rather underpowered. The third choice would be Canada for a hybrid, which definitely has the most omph and is also tied with the diesel as the most fuel efficient.

That was my first decent vehicle and I ran several Taco pick-ups after that. All of them stellar. And now this garbage. I still insist that if they would build a pick-up and 4-runner type vehicle using my 97 Taco as the model they'd be able to meet emissions requirements, sell a lot of vehicles and n doing so make the world a little bit better for all of us.

A wonderful and thoughtful review on what appears to be a nice vehicle. Looked like a worthy replacement for my 2017 Forester until I looked up the price of the "base" 1958... 55,000 dollars. Well, I had my daily laugh! Toyota could have offered a more affordable base by having a part-time 4 wheel drive, crank windows, no heated seats or steering wheel, no rear wiper, a front-wheel drive only version using the ECVT from the Rav 4. I realize these deletions would detract from the over all appeal and all-purpose character... but 55,000 dollars, plus dealer markups, plus taxes... this will end up costing 70 thousand plus when all is said and done. Which makes this vehicle another failed effort of the auto industry that is not affordable for the masses.

No. Seeing how manufacturers are cutting costs and reliability declines, it’s setup for failure, ESPECIALLY since these new motors are designed with the EPA from the start.

@@HotRod-wv4vm - Yep. GM is even worse. Their 6.2L have some of the highest warranty replacements of any motor in the last 5 years. A GM Service Director told me just ONE dealer had over 30 engine replacements on JUST the Escalade. So one dealer, for one model. That 6.2 is fitted in the Suburban, Yukon, Sierra, Silverado, and Escalade. Imagine how many GM warranties: 5 models x hundreds of dealers

@@IPGAuto just a shame. I once owned a 77 K5 Blazer tricked out with captains chairs, 350 engine, corvette cam, lift kit, steel 43 gallon gas tank, tube bumpers, hub conversion. Only issue I had was poor mpg something around 15 mpg. Only reason I got rid of it was gas had gone to $1.50 a gallon back in 84 when I sold it. Could kick myself in the you know where. Those trucks are now going for big bucks I don’t want to be political but USA and Japan have issues with China yet they still manufacture vehicles there. Goes to show money 💰 is king.

A lot of people, including me, like to sleep in their vehicles when camping. The lack of load capacity in the rear along with the way they've designed the folding seat puts this vehicle in the no-go category. Would love to get on board w/it, but it's out for me simply because of that one critical issue. What a terrible choice!
