Hi everyone and welcome to today's chatty video. I intended to do a 2024 knitting plans video but we all know my plans are going to change anyways ;) Instead I decided to show you some patterns in my queue that I'm inspired by. I'm also talking about some knitting goals & new to me for 2024. Then the last half of the video is a knit & chat, mostly talking about my mental health sso you've been warned although I'm not talking about anything dramatic. Hope you enjoyed this different type of video and see you next week!

As someone who has been getting into knitting over the past few months and who is plus size, I just wanted to say that it makes me feel very accepted when straight-sized knitters like yourself are so serious about size inclusivity! Really warms my heart 🥰 Sorry to hear about your anxiety issues, I struggle with them as well. Let's hope that 2024 will be good to us! 💐

Thank you so much! I try to be mindful about what patterns I buy. My patterns will hopefully be size inclusive as well although it's already proving to be difficult to find testers for larger sizes. Such a shame because it should be the norm😭 Good luck with your anxiety and hope you feel better soon ❤

Thank you for being vulnerable. I relate to a lot of what you mentioned during the knitting chat. I think a lot of these things are going to be issues that are going to be with us for a long time in our lives, and that's okay! We'll get to a better place. Monetizing your passion comes with significant pressure, and it makes me very sad to see many designers and podcasters I follow are struggling. Wanted to let you know that I think you're wonderful, creative, and inspiring. We also seem to gravitate towards similar colors and I love to see what you're knitting on. I don't mind at all if you only show your own patterns. It's your channel, and you deserve to do what you want. And think of it this way: your channel will be the main place to be able to see these designs!! I think of it as a good thing. I love to see the design process, as well. Wishing you the best this year.

Thank you so much! I hope I can be better and be kind to myself, hope you can too! When I have a negative thought I now ask myself what I would say to a friend, usually something much nicer ;) Thank you for following along and I'll try to share some bits of the design process as well ❤

I already loved your channel because of all the beautiful things you do, but what really made me feel a sense of companionship was when you said you were doing therapy. I’m in therapy as well, and it’s nice to hear other people speak so freely about it. It takes time, but things do get better. I still have many struggles, but therapy has helped me come a long way and drastically improved my life and relationships. I wish you all the luck on your own healing journey 🙂

Thank you so much! I think that's why it's important to talk about, so we don't feel so alone. It's difficult but it has taught me a lot about myself. Good luck with your therapy journey as well! ❤💕

Believe in yourself girl because I've been around a while and I can see your talent and flair for designing!! stay true to yourself and your brand because they're both beautiful!! Also, when you design, only create things you love because you'll find that your "target/ideal customer" is just like YOU and that's a great place to be!! xoxo Judy

Thank you so much for your sweet words. I love that you found your way to my channel and I found yours! I completely agree with you, I've also found that some designs also don't work when I don't like the process of knitting them. Still getting used to frogging all the time haha! :)

Thank you for your honesty about your struggles as a designer. It is refreshing to hear and I can relate to a lot of things you said. Not feeling good enough, feeling jealous of others success, comparing myself to others, not feeling proud of my work to name a few. Your plans to not make as many knits, and choose quality over quantity, search for lesser known designers, and paying more for patterns also resonate with me. I watched an old Sari Nordland podcast recently and she spoke of how she felt after getting patterns rejected. I don’t know what year she made it but it was eye-opening. I would totally watch your podcasts if you just knit your own designs. I love your designs, colours, and how you model them. I think your unique style is beautiful. Love from Canada! 🇨🇦 ❤

First of all high five on working through our therapy issues, I’m proud of you that you are working towards a future version of you with a better quality of life thanks to hopefully reducing those ruminating thoughts tremendously. Secondly I am personally here for the knitting as well. For me personally I think it’s nice that you want to not only be working on your own patterns, but for me I’d also totally be fine if that would be 80% own patterns and 20% other peoples patterns. I think the main challenge with focusing on your own patterns is on prioritising to get your patterns out there. I’ve seen you work a bunch now on various own designs, especially the Tolula texture cardigan, that I am dying to knit up. I remember when you were starting out more that you’d say that you were working on your own design and it was easier to zone out cause I wouldn’t be able to knit it up anyway. From when I knew it would be a real possibility for me to knit up eg that tolula cardigan, I became a lot more hyped whenever I saw it. I think first it will be just trying to get those patterns out, and afterwards how to get to a system where writing up those patterns becomes easier for you and you can shorten the timespan in between finishing an object and being able to call for test knitters. Maybe there are some classes somewhere in de Randstad about tips and tricks of writing up knitting patterns, it sounds to me like it’s more complicated than writing a sewing pattern. Lastly in that same vein, I think the moment you have some of your own patterns out there, videos like the outfits you made will also be more lucrative for you I think. Because people see your knit designs and think oeh I want those too, and can directly click on a link to ravelry and/or your own website Lastly, regarding the costs of a sewing pattern versus a knitting pattern, next to the factors you already mentions, the material costs for a knitted item are usually higher than a sewn item, at least in my experience. Say I want to make a long sleeved cotton top. i can get 2m of 10€/m + a sewing pattern of €12 and probably still be under the cost to buy yarn for a similar top. For a similar budget I then have less money left to buy the pattern. It also doesn’t help that popular knit designers tend to price their patterns lower because they know they’ll sell enough to have a good profit anyway.

Thank you so much for your comment! I agree with all your points. I've heard a lot of knitwear designers speak up about the pricing issue, but in the end they all say the same thing. Which is that they don't want to increase their prices when no one else does the same. I think that is also because there is an abundance of beautiful patterns out there. If a pattern is above your budget, you can just find something else. I'm now catching up with writing up the patterns for old designs but it is definitely difficult when it's been so long. For all my new designs I'm writing & grading whilst I'm knitting it :) I also really want to continue knitting other peoples designs, especially since some things I wouldn't design myself, but I still enjoy knitting and wearing them. I think it's important to only release designs that are not out there already, like a basic raglan v-neck for example ;) Anyways thank you for following along! And I also really enjoyed the outfit video, I think I will maybe add an outfit of a new FO in every podcast.

Maybe you should watch the last episode of finnish knitting stories nr. 93, she also talks about what you struggle with, she starts about it halfway.

It's difficult when you start up business, but I think you have lots of qualities. I also think knitting patterns are for a larger group of people, has a wider range of followers, sewing patterns are more for a smaller group of interested people. I hope you understand what I mean. It's great how you work on yourself. You know all the things in your, can explane it to us, but try to feel it. Write 3 things down every day what has given you a good feeling just before you go to sleep.

I've been watching your channel for a Lil while now and you are very talented and I believe you will go far in your knitting and sewing career. Hang in there and try to not focus on the other knit designers. I've been wanting to buy yarn and patterns but money has stopped me from being able to do either. I'm thinking alot of people are having money issues.. and knitting can be expensive. I'm waiting for your sweater patterns to come out so I can purchase one.. thanks for sharing.
