2024 F1 BAHRAIN RACE analysis by Peter Windsor

Спорт

Even though it's a new season, and all the teams are fielding new cars, the 2024 Bahrain GP had a very familiar visage: Max Verstappen took an immediate lead from the pole - and, as predicted, opened up a comfortable lead by the end of lap one. Sergio Perez finished a strong second, underlining the outstanding qualities of Adrian Newey's RB20, and Carlos Sainz was an exultant third for Ferrari, beating his team-mate, Charles Leclerc, who was troubled by brake temperature issues. The minor places were disputed by Mercedes and McLaren-Mercedes, with George Russell crossing the line ahead of Lando Norris, a detuned Sir Lewis Hamilton, hampered by a broken seat, and Oscar Piastri. In this video, Peter Windsor looks back at the key moments of the evening and puts Red Bull's performance into the perspective of their recent seasons to date.

Agree. Quite an incorrect analysis of Leclerc's race, leaving out the most important part that he was driving around brake locking issues and losing confidence in the car. Looking at the pace Sainz had and how slow Russell was in race-pace comparison (and he had free air in front of the 4-car train) I think the brake problems robbed us of a potential late-race battle between Leclerc and chasing Perez with Sainz close behind Perez as he was in the actual race. Looking at Perez as a barometer - because Max was in front and could do his own thing of going extremely fast to build a gap and then relax into a steady rhythm - I think the Ferrari has reduced the gap a bit in race pace against RedBull. So far, the caveat being it is only the first race, I don't think it has reduced as much as they have hoped but they have clearly moved away from Mercedes and McLaren whom they were fighting and oftentimes losing to last year.

I never thought I’d live to see another driver like Michael Schumacher. But here we are. Max is very much like Michael. Their driving styles are similar, their attitudes are similar and so is their dominance. Earned dominance. Total killer instinct. Zero mercy shown. No off day. Masterful.

Ham beating a driver like Rosberg in 3 out of 4 seasons and winning championship.....and beating Alonso as a rookie....and beating Vettel in 2017/18 when there was an actual title fight between Merc and Ferrari.....that's MASTERFUL... Verstappen can NEVER match that.....Perez won 2 races last year and Maxi had them Nerf his car since Miami.... he was scared of Perez....😂😂😂😂 Never had a championship calibre teammate.... Peter I think you are not aware of this as the Sky Sports commentary was horrendous in mentioning this but, Leclerc had a break balance issue so bad it was in the 100 degrees difference. He was barely keeping it together to reach the finish line from lap two onwards. He did not flat spot his tyres on mistake. He was on the radio constantly speaking about how dangerous it looked to drive his car today, absolutely miraculous how he overtook Russell to get that P4.

Why are these supposed F1 "experts" unable to tell that Charles clearly had an issue from the start of the race with his brakes. OK, 1-2 lockups you could put down to driver error, but after like 5 it should be pretty obvious there was a mechanical problem. One of the best drivers on the grid isn't going to look like an amateur locking up his brakes every damn lap if there's not an issue. Jesus.

It's difficult to tell. He's not having to really push because the car is so much faster than the rest, and he team mate is mid level at best. IIRC the last time he was pushed in a season, he was patchy and the old aggressive crashy style kept resurfacing. His performance in the crucial final race was lacklustre, and he was only saved by errors from the race director. It would be great to see if he has moved on from that now, but we won't know until the other teams catch up, which might not happen until the next regs are introduced. At which point, we'll likely have the same thing where one team nails it, and wins everything for a few seasons.

@pimjcb9964 Leclerc would have been much closer if not ahead of Perez yesterday without issues, considering he's usually 10 seconds ahead of Sainz, especially in. Bahrain, one of his best tracks. As for Austin, the floors were not illegal, Leclercs plank was 0.01mm below the legal limit, and even then, why would that make them win against the dominant rb19 car? That's not an insult to Leclerc or Hamilton in slower cars.

yep, it probably wouldnt, Well, Checo wasnt that far of, but its safe to assume, he had plenty of pace still available if needed, there is high chance that Ferrari position would be swaped, also without knowing specifics, its pointless to compare different brake issues, for example dealling with bad feeling, that is consistent on both sides of the car, as max had, is managable, however different braking power on left vs right would be way bigger issue @@pimjcb9964

But then I've come to accept you kind of gotta to be that way to be the best of the best. Also what I'm seeing specifically in his racing lines and his car manipulation is truly masterful if you understand anything about racing - he's very much got sensational feel which you need but he's also showing how cerebral he is with his comments on conditions and circuits etc. Hats off to him he is already a Great no two ways about. .Ideally I want to see him race wheel to wheel with another great like he did with Lewis in 21, because I want to see if he's ironed out the bullish attitude and aggressive turn in because I see that part as very shitty driving. I really like that Max likes a car with a very sharp and pointy front end because he's the only other driver like Kimi Raikkonen who likes cars like this. Kimi and Schumacher were very similar -that's why Kimi replaced him at Ferrari. I think Kimi would absolutely adore Max's Red Bull in particular especially given the downforce and grip that thing has..I always thought Kimi and Lewis would be the best pairing of this century at Mclaren. But stylistically in that car...Max/Kimi would be Minutes up the road to everyone.

Max haters huffing the cope needed to deny he is the most dominant driver in history. Schumacher was a god and Max would have beat him. Going further back to Clark, Stewart etc. is just too much of a stretch given different tech and tracks. The crushing realization every driver in the grid has that they can't be champs with out Red Bull and if Red Bull hire them tomorrow they have no chance of beating Max.

All drivers started young, but he started from the age of 3, has mileage on his clock. Rb picked him up from F3, not even F2. Can't be compared, and no he doesn't need to move. Did lulu move when merc was winning him titles? Will it be fun to see? Yes, but he will try leMans after becoming 8 time. You want him to win a title in a Haas? Checo is a solid, Charles level driver, and he is getting creamed year by year with 20-40 seconds. So no he doesn't need to prove. Lando who doesn't crumble under pressure quite like George, Albon, Leclerc, Sainz was offered a RB seat near Max, but he rather gamble on Mclaren, maybe after 2026 they will be contenders.

This was perfection of the highest level as driver and team. 0,5 seconds per lap.

That’s why I like to watch Peter’s videos: the only person to mention Adrian Newey and his team in the first sentences. If I was Adrian I would be annoyed by everyone slapping themselves on the shoulders and ignoring the fact that they stand on the shoulders of giants.

I only raced radio control but strangely when the car felt slow in practice to me the truth was it was just easy to drive because it was set up well. This is what I see with the Red Bull it's lack of problems and smooth handling make driving it so much easier and of course you can push a well balanced car so much easier.

Or ....... we could say that ......... all F1 fans should consider themselves very privileged to witness a car, created by Adrian Newey's 'genius', coupled to the RB team's 'brilliance' and Max's amazing 'master class' driving skills ........ that looks as if it is even better than the historically 'mind blowing' RB19!!!!!

Totally agree with Max's exceptional driving. Arguably the best we've seen. But I do hanker for the day when he's got another excellent driver in the seat next to him. Not saying he's gonna start losing. I'd just be happy for him to have to work hard for his victories.

Today GR showed that, even after 5 seasons in F1, he does not know how to pace his car to get the Maximum out of the car. In less than10 laps, he had destroyed his cars competitiveness and was very lucky to get the car home.
