For those of you saying these trailers weren't in front of your showing of Ghostbusters, they weren't "attached" to the film (which is rare) so they weren't in front of every single showing.

this is correct, i used to manage a theater. If trailers weren't attached to the film drive, they sometimes wouldn't be played, and the theater itself could decide what trailers can play.

Ghostbusters 2016 didnt take it seriously at all, and look what happened. It's important to remember that despite the silly premise, Ghostbusters is *NOT* a comedy. People died making the first movie. It is a somewhat sombre affair, and that's what gives it legitimacy.

The original two had subtle humor. 2016… we (ghostbusters fans) don’t talk about that one. The afterlife and frozen empire try to be similar to the originals. And for me, pull it off nicely. I’ve seen frozen empire twice and plan to see it a third time at least.

What showed Sydney's appeal was Anyone But You. Immaculate just shows serviceable numbers. Sydney's appeal is on movies that show her body

Yeah, it has made 80 million just in the last 7 days (from 494 to 574) worldwide, so I'm pretty sure it will make at least another 150 million worldwide before closing

@@mythicalsalmon3621 Actually, it's holding extremely well: in the first weekend it made 178 million worldwide, then in the next 7 days 189.5 million, then 103.5 million in the next 7 days and finally 80 million from Monday the 18th and Sunday the 24th. It's only a 22% drop worldwide compared to the previous week, which is extremely good. Again, I would say that another 150 million worldwide should be reachable; if, for some to me unexpected reasons, it starts to fall quickly, it could end at 700, but there's the same probability that it overperforms and ends around 750-760 (at the moment I think it'll end around 720)

the industry does not use inflation for obvious reasons but it is worth noting that the original 1984 Ghostbusters, when adjusted for inflation made over $720M domestically only 1 movie in the 2020s made more than that domestically

Immaculate is the highest opening for Neon! $5m isn't a lot but Sydney Sweeney can definitely use that fact and take credit for it to get more work. Plus, she's been receiving rave reviews for her performance in Immaculate even tho the movie's reviews are more mixed leaning. I think it's been a success for her

Not mine either...But they did show a ton of equally goofy movie trailers and 1 horror movie called Tarot.

I enjoyed Frozen Empire, but it had no pace or urgency to its plot. I thought it really plodded from point a to b to c.

I love your Brooklyn accent. The best Ghostbusters we ever got was the 80s cartoon. They tried adding "junior Ghostbusters" in that show for a couple episodes and they immediately realized it was a bad idea and stopped lol.

My daughter actually loves the Godzilla and Kong movies, so we have tickets to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire on Thursday.

I'm just a Godzilla fangirl... riding a Godzilla high after Minus One. I'm well aware GxK will be NOTHING like Minus One, but I'm not gonna say no to a silly Godzilla movie. He even got a makeover! Gotta support my boy

I think they should put new real (and by real I mean the huge ones like the one in NYC) IMAX screens only in the major cities. That’s where they have the best chance of making good money out of them.

@@McClintonforThree yes, 10 million with Thursday night previews and a total of 35 million by the end of Friday; a 70 million weekend is at this point guaranteed and it could also have an 8 in front of it! That's incredible, I hope this movie will close in the US at 150-170 million, instead of the 100 million of the last one. By getting there stateside, it should pass 500 million worldwide, if it's as successful as the last one in China

It’s weird that there are some ghostbusters movies that are considered flops and some hits when they have all made roughly the same amount of money. I think we know what the audience is now, and just have to budget accordingly

Ghostbusters 2016 considered a flop despite earning more than ghostbusters afterlife which came out a few years later. The audience has definitely decreased because they’re making the same money despite inflation but we know what that audience is still even by just comparing the last three.

There are exceptions, but mostly when studios prevent critics from reviewing their movies a day or two beforehand, you can deduce that the movie isn't as good as they hoped. Of course, the public may think differently, but it is a justified internal fear😅

@@MaxIronsThird Perhaps. A similar example is Young Royals, out of Sweden, where the main romantic lead has terrible acne, his face changing from shot to shot. I don’t think Hollywood would ever hire such an actor, regardless of his skill, especially as a romantic lead.

Give Ghostbusters to the Duffer Brothers. I think Stranger Things shows they have the chops to do the exact kind of movie that Ghostbusters needs.

I'd just like to point out that the franchise's best opening is still the 2016 Ghost Busters. And I wouldn't be surprised if this new one doesn't outgross the 2016 one either.

I saw Ghostbusters today and it was just ok…..I honestly think they need to give it a break. There’s way too many characters even though this one focuses mostly on Phoebe. She has the most screen time out of everyone. Maybe the magic can’t be captured from the original films that Hollywood keeps trying to recreate. I was more excited to see ghostbusters than I was Dune 2 because I didn’t care for the first one. However, I enjoyed Dune 2 way more than Ghostbusters.

Grace, I really disagree that actors are any major drive right now. I think people are first looking into the movie, and maybe, maybe if they are on the fence, they might decide after checking out the chast. You cannot say someone is or is not a pull because it's not a thing anymore.

I'd say, as a Godzilla fan, we did do it Grace :P Looking forward to Movie Math tomorrow!

Watched the season enders this weekend for Solo Leveling and Apothecary Diaries. Still haven't made it to Dune 2.

I think Ghostbusters Frozen Empire should be fine since the budget for the film was $100 million which is low for blockbusters nowadays as long as it makes it’s money back at the box office then we might still get another film.

THE GODZILLA FRANCHISE JUST KEEPS SLAYING!

I personally don’t like the Dolby at Lincoln Square. The seating situation is very weirdly layed out being two floors . My fav is on 34 street . I find the one 42 street extremely loud in comparison to the other two I previously mentioned .

I'm just glad I got to see Cabrini and that it held its own. Beautiful sets and photography, solid acting, a story worth learning about.

Not mentioned (of course) but the Spy x Family trailer also played in before Ghost Busters. I'm pretty excited about that one.

I saw Land of Bad, and had a fun time with it. I found aspects of the action to be really unique, thrilling, and well shot, and the story was tense enough that it captivated me.

Immaculate, I had no idea this was a passion project from Sydney. Kinda makes sense, after seeing she was a producer on it. As a movie though...ehhh...it has some interesting ideas, but execution...could've been better. That ending is a bit surprising, though. Ghostbusters...I only really liked the last 30, and I wish that one scene in the end had the entire crew, would've made it better. Rudd reciting the GB theme was great though 😆

Here's an idea, Grace. Disney+ and Prime should each pick a night of the week when they drop new episodes. Like how HBO is known for Sunday nights. Disney+ could take Friday's and Prime could take Thursdays. It would take a little while for people to catch on - they'd have to stick to it for several different shows and maybe include it in their marketing, but I think it would help their numbers. Netflix doesn't need to do this, but I think it would help the other streamers. What do you think?
