I read All Star Superman for the first time after seeing the slate reveal. I think it's probably one of the best things I've ever read period and I'm like kinda ashamed I didn't look at it sooner, if James and the team at DC are drawing inspiration from this then I'd say we're (hopefully!) in good hands. I also really hope this gets more audience goers to read comics, he sure as hell did a better job convincing me to get back on it than that plug at the end of the Shazam trailer lol.

Random thought: I don't know why but I've always wanted a Multiverse Story from DC, where 2 Batmans are investigating a serial killer in their respective universe, but both cases are linked, and the actions that one of the batmans takes affects the other universe, until in the end both both batmans are united for a showdown against the killer.

I never read the comics but when I first saw them I was trying to figure out if they were a cross between the X-Men (Colossus, Beast, Angel, Cyclops) and the Justice League (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman).

As a huge Wildstorm fan, I honestly think those characters can fundamentally not coexist with characters from the main DCU. Ever since they folded the two universes together in the comics those titles crashed and burned. They are only used as foils to make the priority characters (Superman/ Batman) look better by comparison. Meanwhile the Wildstorm characters get butchered.

Yeah he made gardians of the galaxy work but wouldn’t have been big if marvel did establish our main heroes and universe first. The authority will flop financially. Would have been better to bring them in in phase 2-3 of the universe

I actually thought the "cheapo" shots of Amanda Waller had more to do with production issues due to Covid. I think they just filmed her by herself with a skeleton crew. I remember the final season of 'Better Call Saul' was like that, too.

I don't know man, I've seen little to no interest increase after a couple of days from the announcement. Feel kinda bad for DC, too much Gunn overall.. hope he doesn't burn us too early 🔥🔥

I would love Grace to explain her thoughts on the difference between The Boys and Peacemaker. I liked The Boys but it's hyper violent and sexual but for some reason I liked Peacemaker better, it had more heart.

The Boys was a realistic gritty take. Peacemaker also had jokey hyper fantastic elements that was jarring at time. A pet eagle? I like both show, but they're not the same.

With a couple exceptions, I feel like Gunn is trying to make projects he himself is interested in and not the wider movie or DC fan base are looking for.

Gunn can make Green Lantern justice. I hope we see more Green Lanterns. My favorite DC character of all time with a True Detective kind of show ? I'm on board.

I really think you should give Peacemaker a try Grace, it exceeded my expectations in every way. It also will probably be important to the story going along since it is one of the few dceu plots continuing.

I agree. I went into that show with the lowest expectations and was pleasantly suspired at how much I enjoyed it. As for Waller, it will probably pick up right after Peacemaker making it PM 1.5 leading into season two like Gunn said.

The Authority is what really sparked my interest. Please show Wildstorm it's respect. Also i like the idea of establishing a darker toned Justice League as the Authority is (as the Snyderverse was) and then over time have a hopeful, truthful, and just Justice League rise through the darkness and form to take on the Snyderverse allegory becoming the real heroic team we know and love. Like Superman, have hope Grace.

I actually like that he used comic art, whilst explaining that the movies would be based on or softly based on said comic… as true comic book fans you can imagine what the films would be like based on the panels he chose to show

Great take on this projects, but I have to say that you are really underestimating the importnce, the relevance and how influential The Authority is. Also, if the live action version of Superman vs The Authority is half as good as the animated movie vs The Elite it will be a great representation of Superman and everything he stands for.

The fact that a dc fan made these logos to help you is a testament to the goodwill fans have for these franchises , and i think is a good omen.

I think the authority and creature commandos are something James Gunn can put a spin on to make it, his own. We already know people are really particular about the trinity and other popular dc characters. It’s what James Gunn does best. He takes c and d level characters and makes us care about them. I’m excited about everything.

Peacemaker did not feel cheap at all, definitely one of the best DC content that has come out

I am looking forward to this slate of projects. James Gunn is very creative, and brings a lot of passion and comic book knowledge to the equation. It is my best guess that in lieu on logo art, he went for the Comic Art to show his tone for the upcoming projects. Would logos have been nice? Sure, but I am ok with the highlighted comic source material. Glen Powell for Hal Jordan is my pick, but I would interested in hearing about your top choices for Hal Jordan and John Stewart. I am not familiar with the Authority or the Creature Commandos, but after the success and huge audience affection for the Guardians of the Galaxy, I am willing to give Mr. Gunn the benefit of the doubt. And, I have always liked the Elseworlds concept for DC as It is a way to distinguish itself from Marvel. You can have a great actor come in and not be tied to a 6 picture deal and tell a great alternate story as with Matt Reeve's Batman. And the mainstream audience will not have to watch all kinds of previous DC movies/series to enjoy an Elseworld tale. Marvel has become too encumbered with all the material you need to see to keep up with it all. Less is more. Thank you for your hard work! 🖖

I didn't notice it at first but i guess you're right, the logos could've helped the presentation... some people on youtube does breakdowns like you and logos are something people try to analyze to get a glimpse or idea of what the title could be about.

Hi Grace, I just wanted to say I only became familiar with the Authority after you mentioned them on your old channel. I picked up the trade and really liked it, so I'm kinda excited for a live action adaptation 😅. Cautiously optimistic about this slate.

I see no reason for Creature Commandos when YOUNG JUSTICE SEASON 5 is RIGHT THERE. Still holding out hope that it will get renewed for another season.

I think the conceit behind the Authority that gets me excited is the first line of Mark Millar's run: "Why don't superheroes ever go after the real bad guys?" An Authority movie where the superheroes are going after dictators and war criminals without the backing of a government or the UN is great for conflict with your mainstream heroes. I think a lot can be mined from that idea.

Lanterns is my most anticipated project as well. The three elements of Green Lanterns, True Detective, and the reveal of an overarching threat to the whole DCU makes this easily have the biggest upside potential for me...

I'm very interested in The Authority just because what little I know about the character Midnighter sounds crazy. But I don't know much about it, I'm very curious how the Brave and the Bold will pan out, I hope they have the whole Bat family and not just Damien. Nightwing and Tim Drake would be awesome.

I am more excited for what DC has to offer than most of what Marvel has coming out. Booster Gold and Lanterns are the ones I'm most excited for. These were two of the comics we loved to read before DC screwed everything up with the New 52. Gunn had been able to bring B and C list characters into popularity. I hope he continues to do this.

Say what you will about the CW shows, they were all connected and felt like one world. it didn't just act like the other heroes didn't exist, even the sidekicks mattered and would show up on the other shows. that's what made it work and if anything that's what this will need to work as well

Regardless of how good these projects could end up being, by saving some actors from previous films, the SnyderVerse fans will never go away. Why not have Cavill if we have Momoa? It needed to be a full reboot to put it all in the past.

My opinion is.....they should have waited until January 2024 to announce the new slate/reboot plan AFTER all the 4 movies (Shazam 2, The Flash, Blue Beetle & Aquaman 2) is released theatrically! I don't understand the rush to announce it so soon?! They could use this 1 yr grace period to really brainstorm on how to move forward.....like now, why would people waste their money in this economy (cost of living crisis) seeing something that is not going to continue??

my top 4 is 1- Paradise Lost, 2- Supergirl woman of tomorrow, 3- Superman Legacy and 4- Lanterns. i'm kind of excited for these DC Projects. great video, Grace. nice to hear your thoughts on this projects and to see your top 10 ranking.

The premise of Superman Legacy sounds like Superman vs the Elite: does his kindness have a place amongst an increasingly cynical and dark world? So I guess they're building on that to lead to him vs the Authority.

As a non DC expert, I never heard of The Authority, Booster Gold, Paradise Lost or Creature Commandos while I know or have at least heard of the others. It may not have any appeal to non DC fans and as such fail to attract the general public. At least Booster Gold is about one hero and Paradise Lost is not a movie so it poses less problems imo.

I just want to point out, I saw many comments of excitement on social media about The Authority, like a lot. In my case, I'm cool with all the projects, maybe Supergirl is the most interesting for me, but it's difficult to pick just one, there're really great things on the slate (Swamp Thing, Paradise Lost, Lanterns). I think the Wildstorm is awesome to add to the DC universe, but the Athourity. DV8 has a series call Gods and Monsters. Gen 13 would be fantastic.

It is always a pleasant change, when you start your videos in a somewhat quieter manner as in this case. Your loud and enthusiastic "Sooo" has lately been quite a shock in my earphones.

Hi Grace, i totally agree, i felt empty like are these really even happening, without the names written on front of you it just didnt feel the same.. I also would of liked some penciled in release dates, even the month or even year but i get its early..A logo of the slate would of made a real difference...The graphic the guy did is cool, also the channel Heroes Reforged did one that looks similar to MCU one and it looks really cool..

Those who watched Swamp Thing (the DCU TV show) loved it. If it didn't attract a mass audience then you have to consider it was made by the niche DCU streaming service and then shown on the least popular TV network after its cancellation had already been announced, killing any buzz. So whether Swamp Thing can be popular with the masses, maybe it can. After all the 1982 B-movie attracted both a sequel and a c1990 TV show (which wasn't very good but still got multiple seasons).

I feel like swamp thing is the only thing I’m really excited for. James Mangold not being a horror guy kinda bothers me though. But he does make quality generally speaking.

Nothings a waste of time where James Gunn is concerned, everything he's involved in he does an excellent Job!!

WB and Gunn made a big mistake not allowing the DCEU run it's course.. It wouldn't have been any longer than 3 years, whilst they work on launching this new universe with a Flash movie. A lot of these projects are the ones you release once people are hooked onto the universe, like Antman/Loki/ The eternals...

I'd argue that Peacemaker was more than just Irreverent Sillyness. I think it's somewhat unfair to ignore the emotional character depth that occurred in Peacemaker. Gunn certainly excels at a particular brand of entertainment, but I do think he has shown on more than 1 occasion the capacity to create beyond that scope...that mixed with the fact that he won't be directly making all these projects gives me hope that we'll get a pretty good product

The real secret of james gunn is he is actually a massive sap, which bodes well for superman considering he will have to strike a balance between earnestness and bravado (which he has shown to be good at doing)

I think the one thing I was most disappointed about when it came to the presentation was that it didn't get me excited. It didn't feel like "This is the new DC Movie Universe" it just felt like "Yeah, we're trying again. Maybe it will work. maybe it won't." 😅😅 For Chapter 1 of this new Universe, it doesn't get me pumped up like Phase One of the MCU did. Phase One felt like a lead to the Avengers while Chapter 1 of DC feels more like "We don't have much money so we are going to do some smaller projects which we can make with a small budget." I think at the end of the day Gunn should have started from scratch cause even though it's called "Chapter One" it's not though. Cause the previous movies are still Canon to this new universe cause they have to be. Waller literally wouldn't make sense if it isn't. Especially cause he has said the Peacemaker Team will be in it. Shame Cause I really had high hopes that DC will be just as big as Marvel, which it could be. It could be bigger if they played their cards right.

Grace, how can you say people don't turn up for Superman stories when Smallville ran TEN seasons? And I think the appetite for a deeply earnest, kind character is high - with all of the cynicism in the world.

Just because Guardians and Deadpool succeeded doesn't mean audiences are into niche characters. Most of MCU niche have been flops or lukewarm. Gun is putting niche characters ahead in DC. Gunn does well with them. But t general audiences don't relate to wackiness or extra humor or dark nature of these characters. Gunn will bury DC

As much as I love Grace’s insights and they are excellent, she’s doing too much of comparison to Kevin Feige, hence saying Gunn is a Feige of DC. Over time, Gunn has potential to come out of this project with beautiful productions and that starts with Superman. Superman is the light and kindness in a dark world, not an odd character trying to fit in a world. I think that’s how we will see from this new Gunn’s Superman.

I’m really nervous for Midnighter and Apollo in the hands of James Gunn. I’m afraid he’ll push the characters in a The Boys route but’ll go too far and accidentally give us the superhero version of Dahmer, which is only going to damage the image of LGBTQ+ heroes going forth.

I’m over a show saying “it’s a game of thrones type show” 🙄

I'm not a comic book reader, and so don't know the ins and outs of the more esoteric characters, but I do love movies. One thing that has struck me about DC movies (particularly the older Superman and Batman movies) is that the traditional DC story is focused on the villain and their defeat/downfall rather than the hero and his character growth. With that in mind, I kind of wish that Gunn build his DCU mirroring Marvel but actually mirror-imaged: That in each film/series you are introduced an ace bad-guy that is defeated individually by that show's hero, only for those villains to team up and pose a threat that causes big guns to get involved with their own needed team ups. It ends up the doing the same thing as marvel, it's just conceptually flipped on it's head, and gets to the same end, but plays to the strength of traditional DC film (it's all about the villain!) as the vehicle to get there.

Grace, you mentioned glen powell, Top Gun Maverick might as well been his audition tape to play Hal Joradan. I think he would be perfect for the role.

It's damn near the same character. I typically hate fan casting because it only casts characters in the typenof roles they've llayed before, but damn, it would be hard to find someone better for the role.

I'm excited for Paradise Lost and Supergirl. Cautiously optomistic about superman and green lantern

Not a comics person but I'm honestly not surprised they're doing The Authority if you say it's as similar as The Boys given how well that series is doing for Amazon. Sorta like how Amazon got the Rings of Power and the Wheel of Time shows because of the popularity of Game Of Thrones. And of course they'll do Swamp Thing despite Universal's Monster Universe (is that even happening by the way?). They are competitors after all.

booster gold, lanterns, batman, and superman are the only projects that’s i’m excited for (maybe swamp thing too)

I’m most excited for the authority but hearing you discuss other shows makes them more appealing

I was beyond excited when Grace first said they were taking cues from the animation, then crestfallen when she broke down the slate and I realized it wasn't the DCAU. Oh well, maybe in time for the Superman/Batman 100th anniversaries. I am curious to see if they can finally nail the tone of a full-length Superman movie; Gunn's statements on that were encouraging.

I thought the exact same thing on the logos and the Concept art.

I’m genuinely so disappointed Gunn didn’t full reboot and build off The Batman. I’m scared this’ll end the same way the Snyderverse did, but I’m praying Gunn changes my mind!

I disagree starting from The Batman, they would be repeating past mistakes. Let The Batman be its own thing so it can flourish.

Just mean we won’t have Batman in a potential justice league movie. I don’t know if I could manage yet another Batman reboot

Reeves can keep his batman fighting jewellery thief as gunns batman fight clay face with bat family. I will also enjoy harley n ivy.

@Grace I agree, Gunn’s presentation was definitely vague. I think this was done purposely. WB’s track record shows that nothing is absolute-not even films that were complete and ready for release (theatrical JL; Supergirl to name the most controversial). In reality I don’t see Gunn making it past his Superman Legacy film-much will depend on Box Office and fan response from that first film. Easy as that.

Its surprising Grace hasn't seen Peacemaker... Also Gunn specifically said it's not called the Gunnverse, it's the DCU (and honestly I like that because nobody says the feigiverse)

Just in regards to WW; I always felt that the New 52 run by Brian Azzarello would be a great story to adapt into film or a show

The Authority is obviously Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy project for WB.

Eventually, I’m really hoping Gunn can bring us a proper Raven movie or series. She can easily be the scarlet witch or Dark Phenoix of the DCU

only now noticed in the poster for house of the dragon the eye pupil of the dragon is formed like the dagger

I don’t understand why Peacemaker turns you off but you love The Boys. It’s the same type of Humor.
