I feel like pretty much any Corolla - possibly with the exception of the AE86 (thus meaning all US-spec Corollas) are the definition of "an car." Though that may not remain the case as "cars" (sedans) start to become exceptional, and the Highlander becomes the crossover-era's defining nondescript boring bland vehicle.

@@milojohnson3057 Reading up on the 2021 version, they only made 600, most of which are CVT automatics. Overall it seems like a sport tuned version but nothing over the top, and so few that your odds of encountering one in the wild are extremely slim - doesn't really alter the Corolla's reputation. Had they made more available so people could have a reasonable chance of getting one it might have helped.

For my 86-90 mile RT commute every day this is the way to go. Kitted out with all options and accessories I wanted was 28,778 vs a up trimmed Prius that is over 36,000. If all you want is some light AWD and solid fuel efficiency. I think this is the way to go. It will be a fine daily driver for all involved. Karl Benz built the Benz Patent Motorwagen, the first Internal Combustion powered automobile in 1885. It had three wheels and was steered by a tiller. I had a top trim Camry Hybrid, honestly the most comfortable car I've ever had, but I resigned from my old job, and couldn't afford the payments. I loved the space and the fact I would fill up once a week, I think people that don't drive for a living make a huge stink out of hybrids, but if you do any form of delivery, that 52mpg starts to be really appealing
As much as I enjoyed a classic RCR review I think the final verdict missed the mark… a base AWD hybrid that gets 50mpg for $25000 is insane value and for people that just want a car that they can drive care free for years I don’t think it can be beat. Sure you could spend 3-4k more on a Prius.. but why would you if you don’t have to?

If you can live without AWD, the MSRP drops to $22,800 - only a $1300 premium over the regular Corolla. That's where this makes the most sense. That said, while the Elantra hybrid is $1750 more, it has more standard features and is quicker. Once you start adding options the Corolla easily approaches the price of the new Prius, which is much better in almost every way.

This review is a masterpiece. That aside, Toyota makes a kick ass, reliable car. Hell, the new Prius has more power, will easily get 50mpg, can be spec’d up to the gills with all the goodies, and will last you easily 15 years with minimal maintenance. It even looks fantastic IMO. First let me say its not my only car I have others and I am a car guy but.... I have a 2021 corolla hybrid It is an appliance and I would argue that cars while they can be fun and exciting, for most people they just need transportation. This is the best car for getting from point A to B. Its 100% Japanese as in components and assembly, its cheap, it has a high quality interior albeit not fancy, has all the good safety features that make it almost self driving on the highway, and the driver seat is relatively comfortable and spacious, also it should be noted it gets better than 50 mpg I get closer to 60 if I do the speed limit, and over 80 if I hyper mile. They have now added all wheel drive which makes it even better for commuting. This the best car you can buy if you just need to get to work everyday reliably and cheaply. You undersold it.

Are there European cities in south america then ?
22 Corolla hybrid owner here. I wanted a prius but there's not enough room for a tall driver, so I got a Corolla!
10:18 It can accelerate up to 70 kph/44 mph quite easily under it's own power. It will hold its speed at 90 kph/57 mph in electic at even ground. The ICE can turn off at up to 120 kph/75 mph, but the electric motor doesn't have enough power to stay at that speed, but it deaccelerates the car a little bit less (compared to just keeping your foot of the gas pedal). The easiest way to drive this car on electric power alone is to accelerate up to chosen speed (be it 30 or 45 mph) using ICE, keep your foot off the acceleration pedal for a second, then gradually apply throttle to keep the speed and drive on electric only. I've driven at 115 kph/72 mph for like 20 or 30 kilometers going downhill on an autostrada in Italy just on electric, so it's doable, but in everyday conditions, its best to accelerate using petrol, then using electric to stay at whatever the speed you prefer. Seeing 3-4l/100km (or 60-80 US MPG) that way is not a rare sight in my hybrid CHR (which uses the same drivetrain), I would believe the Corolla to be even better since I would assume it creates less drag.

Towing too. I worked at a big car auction and the electronic trannies would need a jump just to move 20 feet out of the way, even if it was downhill. People would get locked in cars with electric door latches, though they all have a mechanical backup hidden somewhere. Old tech has its conveniences.
I’ve got the euro spec 2.0 Corolla hybrid. It’s got the last generation electric motor as opposed to what’s going to be in the 2023 Prius meaning somewhat less power and lower fuel economy. On the other hand, it’s still ridiculously efficient and even reasonably fun for a hybrid. It’s a winner imho, but your mileage may vary as the saying goes.

As much as many in the pro-electric movement don't want to admit, hybrids are a better choice for much of the US. We just don't have the infrastructure for full EV adoption in most of the country. Perhaps more importantly, it's just an car, for people who don't need or want anything more.
@Acoustic_Theory

It also has the least total lifetime environmental impact, because the battery pack is smaller and the rest of the car can be made from common materials that don't need to be highly refined in an energy-intensive process. It's a way to have the convenience of a gas car with better overall economy. (Was it a PHEV? I missed that part, but if you don't want to be left out of plugging your car into wall juice like a Good Person does, a PHEV is what you want.)

EVangelists love to shit on hybrids. Meanwhile back in reality, more hybrids can be built with the resources it takes to build one EV so which one really reduces emissions and energy consumption the most? Probably hybrids. Also, they are more affordable and don't require tax breaks that divert tax dollars away from critical infrastructure (like better public transit). Talk about entitlement and backwards thinking...

I see Medicare patients all day and there's no way I can stop some random place to try to fill up my electric car in the boonies No matter what the range says on any cars I implore you if you drive over a hundred twenty miles a day you will run into problems and have range anxiety despite claims of 280 mi.... We're going to need a range of about 500 mi before we get to that point. The infrastructure just isn't there unless you are urban and have your route down to a t.... Also if you look at the recent article a Tesla and a Prius end up costing about the same due to the electricity cost so you're not saving that much more spending double or triple for a car

It's such a nice touch at 3:41 where he "bumps" into the chair.

In context, I think of it as “pretend rolling coal”
It looks like it's about to sneeze. even worse with the front plate😅 If you leave out the Corolla part, "Dual motor, AWD Hybrid" sounds promising. Great Video!
I've got a first gen Prius ... 9 years ago, it's from 2001. I loved it ! It never broke, down, I still drive it every day, and the seats are sooo comfortable. It's sitting at 330k km. I changed the battery pack for a new OEM one last year for piece of mind but it was still working. That car cost me 4350€ in 8 years including the 1350€ purchase price in 2016. Best deal of my life, best car I've ever owned ! Everyone hates you for driving a Prius, but my Prius ain't slow at red light 😏
This is unhinged in the best way, pure RCR and I love it

Great fuel economy and no range anxiety because you can fill it up in three minutes in any human settlement. There's a reason why Toyota is still going all-in on hybrid and only made an EV compliance car because they had to.
Love the truck rant and the Patriot in a swing state scenario! 😂😂 Made my morning!
That funny feeling at the end had me laughing, thank you.
These RCR reviews have been incredible as of late
I have a 2021 Camry Hybrid LE, and they're great cars. The hybrid system works almost flawlessly, and the gas mileage is excellent. My best tank was 57 MPG, and over the 11,000 miles that I've put on it, I've averaged 50.7. Winter the MPG drops into the high 30s, usually because you have to run the heat or defrost almost all the time. Summer is when I get the best gas mileage. I've driven some Corollas over the years, and they're okay. They feel cheap though. I bought my Camry Hybrid for $27,200 out-the-door, in April of 2021. So, for not much more money, you're getting a lot more car. The Camry still has some cheapness to it, like the door materials, and the steering wheel. But I live with it.

You get worse gas mileage in winter because they change the gas formulation for cold weather. Running the heater costs almost nothing, just the few milliamps needed to run the fans. Your engine is making heat all the time.
“My FB group will send me to the break room from Severance” Love it 👍
"I've filled toilet bowls with things more colorful and propulsive than this." That's going into my lexicon.
Roman's funny feeling parody fits perfectly for this car 👌🏾
"Not hot topic that's for posers" made me spit out a bit of coffee
I’ve been checking out alotta your videos. I’m a bored guy with a regular 04 2.5 rs impreza so looking at all these different cars shines a little light in this void. And after all of the on your brand insanity, I still wasn’t ready for this. When the stop motion kicked in I couldn’t remember if I was watching RCR or a Vietnamese bootleg of Santa Claus is Comin To Town.
This is one of your best videos yet! Hilarious
Only problem I have with hybrids is the brakes. Their brake force curve is vertical at low speeds. You can't creep forward without the brakes suddenly grabbing and stopping you.

I wish Hybrids and Electric cars had a button or paddle on the steering wheel for regen only braking.

Agreed. Hated that about my Chevy Volt. You had to use alot more force than a regular ICE Chevy to keep the brake pedal far enough down not to creep.

@@letour32rr It is kinda the opposite with the Toyota hybrid system. You'll be coming to a smooth stop with only light brake pressure, then it switches from regen braking to normal and it is quite abrupt at times. Inching into my garage is the worst lol.

I drove an auris hybrid (prius drivetrain) and I didn't experience this at all.

I agree. Brake feel with the blended brake needs some improvement. It's not bad but it isn't as controllable as straight hydraulic brakes.
I see projects in the future using that rear motor axle assembly......

Magnificent episode, RCR never lets us down.
When I saw the mileage, I immediately thought of the Geo before it was shown on the screen.
Half of this video was a mental breakdown
