Right from the start, flooring it. Its a perfectly good CVT on a non turbo engine with enough power for its intended use. Do people think these are Beemers or something, which I cant stand for so many reasons anyway. I think the Subaru brand is misunderstood, the expectation that it should drive like something else seems to prevail all too often these days. I could get a 2.0 XV E boxer up to speed without one half the noise or high revs and although slightly slower its irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. 0-60 and getting to the limit as fast as you can is really not important in the real world. Its not a 335d x drive and doesnt pretend to be.

There are situations on the roads, when you need to floor it. In this video you can see, how it behave - in "I" (individual driving mode) and in "S" (sport driving mode). In these days people want to drive a car in such a way that they don't have to deal with anything at all, and with a CVT, you have to adapt to the transmission. But you have to, if you want the engine not to roar at revs. And you write, that it's not a BMW? Totally irrelevant comment. It's a car that also needs to accelerate.

This is not nissan. Follow the 30k km fluid change interval and you'll be fine for hundreds of thousands of kms. This transmission is no less reliable than competitors.

You cant expect it to perform like a DSG box. Totally different design and purpose. I had the previous shape outback, 2016 model. There really is a knack to using the CVT. No point flooring it. Set off, build up speed then when revs even out, you can push on further. The trick is to keep the revs from sitting at the redline, it sound shit like that and only bad drivers will attempt it but complain about it. I could fly in that car on hilly roads, and a Golf GTD could not keep up with me one day and my revs never went more than 4k as I was in “S” mode.

@@DrivingCarsThis is an improved CVT over the previous model, which I owned. Once you appreciate its nothing like a DSG and has to be driven in a very different way, its a great transmission. The biggest error people make is flooring a CVT and wondering whats wrong with it, when in reality its not designed for that. Build the speed, dont let revs get too high then press on further as the revs drop, dont need to red line it,
