2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Review // On Another Level (+ INSANE Lap Time)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS (US$241,300/CAD$267,300 starting) takes no prisoners. By all accounts, its a road-legal race car. It makes more power than the regular GT3 and has been tarred and feathered in carbon fibre and aero. Thomas and James see how it performs on the road, and then take it to the Throttle House test track for a laptime. We hope you enjoy the episode. Subscribe!

    I think that this “track” that they have is not at all what the GT3 was designed for. Put both on the NBR and the new GT3 RS has a 10 second gap on the viper. And I mean this literally. 7:01 for the fiber and 6:49 for the GT3 RS.

  • @TheRenegade.

    @TheRenegade.

    6 ай бұрын

    @@michaelb3576To use the Nurburgring is a terrible example. Porsche backed the testing of their own car, the GT3RS. Meaning they had a proper team, engineers, mechanics, and all the equipment for the car ready and available at the ring. Whilst the Viper attempt was a literal crowd funded effort by viper enthusiast. Even with the complications the team faced and only have one real working car they still managed a staggering 7:01 time. The drivers and the team said if the car definitely had more in her, enough to get under a 7 minute lap time. The ACR still holds 10-11 records, and again that’s all with a manual, RWD, and fixed aero and a huge N/A engine… and it’s been out of production for nearly 7 years now. It’d be pretty embarrassing for Porsche to have their 992 3RS not be quicker be a great margin, which honestly from what we’ve seen it’s not all that much quicker lol. ACR seems to be the king here especially if your an actual experienced car enthusiast 🤷‍♂️

    @@TheRenegade. okay then use a horsepower equivalent Porsche as a comparison. How utterly gapped is the viper then? I’m not saying the viper is a bad car. It’s a legend for affordability and getting the most out of your cash. But my point is that this short circuit, which is mostly flat is just not at all what the GT3 RS was designed for. The aero and suspension are designed for longer more complicated tracks with changes in altitude. Just because you like something doesn’t mean that I don’t when I point out that this isn’t a great “track” for testing both cars capabilities. The GT3 RS won’t even create peak downforce to make DRS actually effective on this track. Their straight is nowhere near long enough.

    In the current top 10 fastest Nurburgring lap times.. there are 6 Porsche's.. FIVE of them are either the GT2 or GT3. The surgical level of engineering the people at Porsche deliver is just.. beyond overpowered !!

  • @ertugrulbae46

    @ertugrulbae46

    Porsche is fast around the Nurburgring. But Mercedes puts far more effort in the laptimes even more than Porsche. Then there's everyone else like BMW who do a practice lap, then a real lap...and that's it...even then its probs a 3rd party driver like the one who did the M5CS who's about 10s slower than everyone else. Meanwhile Mercedes runs around the green hell for 6-9 months + installs chassis mods, installs aero packages, semi slicks and has several runs. Each top end Mercedes car 'AMG GT Black series and also AMG-GT R' have atleast 2 record times from 2 different drivers. Porsche only has 1 official timed run record for each model. Clearly this shows Mercedes puts twice the effort. Being in F1..they clearly excel in track racing over other manufacturers and can carry over the expertise and teams etc If Porsche had the same commitment...the top 3 would all belong to Porsche and it would best even the AMG one, but absolutely kill the rival AMG models

    Hah. Big corporate motoring companies are more interested in reducing cylinder count, banning combustion (in the engine, not on the grid), installing remote kill switches (politically driven punishments), and taking away individual control of transport. That all takes a lot of time and resource that could otherwise be spent on designing nice sports cars that do things faster, harder, sharper.

  • @Shiny_Dragonite

    @Shiny_Dragonite

    9 ай бұрын

    @ertugrulbae46 Thomas does a decent job of explaining how the diff and suspension work in plain English. Raising the strength of the diff on the acceleration side causes the rear end to jump out more and oversteer or slide coming out of corners, like the clip where he refers to the BMW as a hooligan (best visual I can think of from this video). As for spring rates on the suspension, if they're set too high, you get a much stiffer suspension and less grip on rough or bumpy surfaces but it reduces body roll and lets you keep a lower center of gravity. Lower spring rates give you more roll and a softer feel, but more grip on a bumpy surface since it keeps better contact with the road. Probably not the best job explaining those things, but hopefully it makes a bit more sense. In terms of Gran Turismo: higher spring rate is good for smooth racetracks, and lower is better for Sarthe or Nurburgring since those tracks are so uneven they can throw your car around.

The RS is a track focused model, which is more geared toward the enthusiast who wants to extract the fastest lap times possible(for their skill level) so the PDK is the proper application. I mean, the 991 RS was PDK only so this should come as no surprise.

    @@Beastnappy Source? Not that it is much different from CUP2 tires. Not to mention all the other wet weather that prevented proper practice runs: "The team looking to set the Nurburgring record with the 2017 Dodge Viper ACR arrived in Germany late last week with plans of spending several days practicing before making an official record run on Monday. Their first few practice sessions were rained on, so while they got some track time, the conditions were far from ideal. When the crew finally got some sunny practice time, both cars ran into rear wheel bearing issues, which sidelined the team until they could get new parts. Once the cars were repaired, the Viper ACR team was prepared to make a record run on Monday, but once again, they were rained out. They did get some practice time on the wet track, but no official record run was made. Fortunately, on Wednesday, the team was finally able to get the cars on a dry track for a proper record run and the results were very good. Dominik Farnbacher laid down a time of 7:03.45 and that is the quickest time ever run by an American car with witnesses at the Nurburgring. Best of all, the team had planned to make one more run today, but unfortunately, after a great start, another odd mechanical issue struck. A communication device required of all cars running the Nurburgring was placed under the dash, somewhere behind the gauge cluster. During Farnbacher’s run - which track officials state was one of the quickest starts they have seen from a production car - a portion of the communication device fell out of the dash, coming to rest behind the pedals. Because of that, Farnbacher lost the brake and the clutch, killing the run and forcing him to limp the car around to the pits….and then it started to rain while they were in the garage area fixing the problem. Farnbacher may have been on pace for a lap time starting with a 6, but due to the mechanical issue and the rain, the team will have to settle for another record lap time as the quickest American production car to ever lap the Nurburgring." dodgeforum.com/articles/2017-viper-acr-sets-new-nurburgring-record-american-production-car/

    I absolutely love Porsche 992s. I can’t remember the last time I loved a car this much that wasn’t from 80s or 90s. The GT3 RS is a bit much for my taste since I prefer the Touring Package, but this is still pretty cool in every way. Also, after going to multiple dealers in person and watching videos extensively on different versions of the 992 from actual owners (one having both the regular GT3 with manual and Touring with the PDK), they said the same about the manual. They almost say it begrudgingly or under their breath that the PDK system is better than the manual, but I know that’s a bit sacrilegious to some enthusiasts. Edit: After watching the whole video, I can’t remember if they said it, but you can switch what each of the gauges outside of the speedometer of what they say and do, even switch the position they’re in so that the most important ones are visible. My favorite, even though I would never track it, is the one visual that actually shows the G’s you’re pulling. And you already have the one in the center of the dash for lap times and such. Finally, even if you had the money, I doubt you’d actually find one below 300k, I’ve seen them sell even at 500k. Half a million is just so much, but I guess it’s worth it to some.
