For me the clear winner is the Elentra N for the 3 reasons below: 1- Available to purchase at MSRP or below 2- Available to purchase at MSRP or below 3- Available to purchase at MSRP or below Honda, doesnt care about their customers, half of the Type-R sold will be a garage queen. Hyundai built car for us to enjoy. That is why the lentra N is cleraly the winner.

they forget why they became stans to begin with.. this very sole reason. Affordable enthusiast market was wide open for JPN car manufactures way long ago and they put out cars like S2000, EVO, STI, ITR all for a reasonable price. But axing enthusiast platforms and hiking the price. that's something id like to get behind.

I just picked up a 2022 Veloster N for my daughter in Miami(a new one) three weeks ago and drive 1,110 miles home. I personally wanted EN but my daughter firmly wanted VN. The car is really nice and very fun to drive. Driving composure is superb and the car is very easy to toss around corners. What a toy!!! Quite comfortable on the road. I can't wait to bring this VN to track in May. Speaking of reliability I have Elantra sports for my commute car. I racked up 72,000 miles. I never had any single minor issues with this car. I only did regular oil changes. That was it. I drove Elantra sports on the track for about 12 days hard for fun. Still not a single issue. My 2007 Honda Odyssey? I have lists of stupid issues first three years including day-of-delivery problems. The paint quality was so bad, 10% of the paint is already gone and rust is seeping in(Famous for Honda). Honda and Toyota are not old-time cars anymore.

Elantra N owner here - Super jealous of the FL5 owners but kudos to the amazing car. The value of the Elantra N is superb and I have so much fun driving it around everywhere. The six speed in the EN isn't as heavenly feeling as the CTR but a weighted shift knob seemed to fix the issue. You can't go wrong with either option as an enthusiast.

As always, the most honest, true to life review on KZread! As an Elantra N DCT owner, I can say as much as I love my EN, it’ll never have the brand respect and pedigree Honda or the Type R nomenclature has. And as much as looks are subjective, I think the FL5 is an amazing looking car. I’ve learned to love the Elantra N’s looks, but there is a lot going on styling-wise. But one thing about me is I’m cheap and always looking to get the most bang for my buck, so there’s no way I’d pay $50k for a Civic. But I wouldn’t pay $50k for any car lol. So for $35k, which I can stomach, the Elantra N is the most entertaining car I could get. I’m 6 months in with 10,000 miles and zero problems. If the FL5 was priced what the FK8 was originally, I’d probably be trading the EN in right now!

Never is a long time. The major thing the N models have against them is the impending switch to EVs. Right now, there's no differentiator between electric motors. Of course, some are more powerful, some less, but the high revving, and charasamatic engines of pre turbo Honda's are special and hooked plenty of enthusiasts. Will there be something to differentiate EV motors? We'll have to wait and see.

Honda definitely has the pedigree and the street cred, but Hyundai was brilliant in bringing Peter Schreyer from Audi and Albert Biermann over from BMW M Division to work on the N. I much prefer the look of my EN over the last gen CTR, but the new CTR is my favorite of the three. The base model Civic costs 25% more than the base Elantra, while the base CTR is only 32% more than the base EN. Yes, cars at those prices don't actually exist, but its interesting to see that the MSP differences are about what you'd expect for the step up in performance and interior quality.

@@sharmilanraj So many option, especialy subjectively. To me the typeR is far from special as to me it feels HUGE and boaty. to me special/fun/sporty needs to feel small and nimble. For that kind of money you can have a bmw 440, mini JCW, Hyundai N products for half the price, fiat abarth for 1/5 the price. The typeR is overhyped, its priced this way because they know fanboys will buy. I personaly would never pay BMW sportcar kind of cash for a glorified honda civic. Also lot of the options named are AWD and more confortable therefor they would also double as great daily and canadian winter cars.

@ASecureLab it feels huge and boaty? You're the first person I've heard saying that, and I've watched a lot of videos and read a lot of reviews. So, don't know if I can believe you there. Plus, I'm sure the handling and practicality of the civic type r is better than all the cars you listed, except for the electra N. Can't say much tho because I don't own any of them. In my opinion the interior of the ctr is the best looking out of all the cars you listed. The red just makes interior looks so good and unique. You make some good points tho. For example I'm from SC when I go to Road Atlanta I get 380 miles from my house to Atlanta and come back with 1/4 in the tank and 70 miles to go all in 93 fuel. I love my EN. A couple of EN pilots going high 12s and ~110MPH on a prepped surface with an aftermarket wheel/tire combo as the only modifications. I was surprised to learn the OEM EN wheel is ~30 lbs each... that is heavy. I get why Hyundai went that route (think C7 GS wheel issues) but a 30 lbs forged wheel really?

The VB does drive really well and I really liked the car but the infotainment was not my taste. The brakes are also a weak point as mentioned by almost everyone. Stock Dunlops are meh too. The true value of the VB lies in the tuning potential and their availability. Lots of tuners are able to push 350+ whp/wtq on on platform with just 93 octane tunes which is crazy. Going to be fun to watch for sure. Enjoy your 22 WRX! I think it is overall a really solid car from my experience.

If the elantra had a lift back and actually looked good, I'd be saving up for one right now. Might consider getting a used Veloster N, but they haven't depreciated at all and are super hard to find. You're basically paying MSRP for something with 25,000 miles, and mechanically inferior to the elantra at that... I wish they had updated it instead of discontinuing it 😭

Wanted the GR Corolla (2nd choice was the CTR), but obviously impossible to get either at MSRP, not that I couldn’t afford a ~5k mark up (dealers around me were charging upwards of 20% over MSRP) or so but it was about the principle of it all. Ended up with an Elantra N DCT cyber grey at MSRP and no regrets. Heated seats, sunroof, great infotainment UI, and that wonderful exhaust are all a big plus which convinced me that I made the right decision.

I just have a hard time justifying the 50K+ for a Civic Type R..... At the end of the day, they are both econo boxes with a sporting flare. There are too many other vehicles in this price range that are far more functional and will leave the Civic in the dust. But obviously, a lot of people like them, so good for them, and Honda.
