    A perfect car for your son would be the Civic Sport Hatchback with the manual. It costs a lot less, but still sporty, with all the good essentials for the price without the extras you don't need like a sunroof, and more reliable manual adjust seats, and the N/A 2.0L engine that is even more reliable, dependable and with more longevity than the smaller turbo engine. And it has a more youthful performance image with more black trim and wheels.

    I just got this exact car. The blue color really pops. It is smooth shifting and plenty of power. Rev hang may exist but is unnoticeable in basic daily driving. The only time I see it at all is in the high part of the rev range and it doesn't impact the driving experience at all. Love the feature rich interior. Very comfortable and quiet ride.

    I just got a Acura Integra A Spec Tech Manual 1 month ago and love it for $38k. This Civic shares much with it and that’s a good thing. I like the extras that came with Integra like adaptive suspension, ELS audio, heated seats and steering. Anyway, I’m in my 50’s and drive a 2022 F150 KR and been driving trucks for 10 years. Trucks have a great view of the road and very spacious; but I do not think they are particularly fun or ride well. I drove Accord manuals for decades. I wanted to experience it again. Good stuff. The manual Civic and Integras are fun; but you do not need to speed to do so. Plus, 38 mpg on highway.

    All that plus lumbar support in the Integra. For $32K you'd think they could put some lumbar in the Civic. :)

    This is the conclusion I've came up with too, the integra is a mix between Si and Sport Touring Hatchback Civic but slightly nicer interior even still. A hybrid of everything. Sporty but sensible. Nice and comfortable to drive, good mpgs, but still engaging to drive while also being practical.

    Nice car for sure but 32.5k ouch. Wasn’t the SI last gen 25-26k now a sport touring is almost 33k. Unreal. Honda used to be affordable. Inflation isn’t that bad lol. Just a couple years ago I bought a low mile Mustang GT premium loaded with low mileage for 29.5, crazy to think these have gone up so much. A base Focus ST used to be about 25 and the full optioned ST3 was about 30… The big appeal to Hondas were that they were cheap and affordable. I guess not so much anymore.

    Same thoughts. Went to dealer the other day to potentially trade my 10th gen civic but i was astonished of how much increased has gone in just 3yrs. Got my sport hatch for just 23k and u want me to pay 10k more for just a newer civic? Yea nah..

    I bought a base manual Fit for $16k just before the pandemic, the non-Touring Civic Sport hatch is the nearest new equivalent for "only" 26k. Feature creep's a bitch.

  • @SoulEraser000

    @SoulEraser000

    Inflation kind of is that bad though. 32k is CHEAP for a car nowadays. The average new car is much more expensive. So considering this is the fully loaded civic, could be worse. It's the smallest car in the US but not the smallest car Honda has. We had cheaper, smaller cars but didn't buy enough of them so this is the result.

    I walked onto my local lot and found one of these, traded in my Sport sedan. A month of modding later, it is pretty much like the blue Modulo accessorized JDM pic from last year, with also the JDM shift knob (10th gen Si) requiring a new boot collar. Also put in the gloss door pillars from the Type R and e-HEV Advance.

  • @MisterApeas

    What did you use for the boot collar?

  • @jjacob25101
    @jjacob251019 ай бұрын

    Ben, I agree with your title. The Type R is the ultimate Civic, in hatchback, but unless you are getting it as a collectors car for its value, intend to race and mod it, it is not as posh and comfortable as this Sport Touring Hatchback. I love the Boost Blue Pearl in this or the Sport Hatchback. Sonic Grey Pearl is my second choice. Black exterior emblems would be a given in the Sport, but on the Sport Touring Hatchback, I would get the aftermarket JDM style Type R Honda H Mark emblems for the grill, rear hatch and horn button. And legal smoke ceramic window tint, and nice metal license plates with clear covers. Black usually, like on the Sport, but Chrome would be fine to match the rest of the trim. Of course, the 2.0L turbo engine is much better, or even the detuned version in the previous Accord Sport, but if you don't thrash and abuse it, and maintain it properly, this should last almost as long as the N/A 2.0L in the Sport. The Si is bumped up to 200/222 actual horsepower in OEM stock form. Has a slightly more stiffer suspension and upgraded brakes and actual lacks some of the niceties as this car. So overall, this is a nice overall daily driver with all the bells and whistles, nice Bose Stereo, full digital dashboard, upgraded infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay/Andoid Auto and charging. As opposed to the Performance image of the Sport Hatchback that I also love, with the blackout, and all the basic goodies for a lot less, and the dependable, reliable N/A 2.0L with its longevity, the Sport Touring Hatchback has the expected upgraded bells and whistles and difference in trim. Fog lights, gunmetal and black version of the all black gloss wheels, bright door window trim, which I think they should have used the smoke chrome like on the grille of the previous Accord snd HR-V Sport. The manual is sensibly not going to have a Sport mode, and the center console configuraion is different that the CVT version, with a smaller center storage and relocated cupholders for obvious reasons. The taillights do not have LED bulbs for the turn signal and reverse lights, but an aftermarket company has them available for that, the rear hatch/turnk light, and license plate light. The next upgrade above this would be be the Acura Integra A-Spec, wich is basically a hatchback version of the Si, with a CVT available, 6 Speed Manual and LSD limited slip differential fir $5K extra, especially with the Technology Package that has adaptive suspension, and even better ELS stereo, and a whole lot more. If I got that, it would be in Apex Blue Pearl with the white or black interior, and almost all the optional accessories like the black emblems and body kit w/o the carbon fiber for $40K. The nice but ultimate Acura version of the Type R would be the Type S, $60K with everything I would want. But available for less without those options. But this Sport Touring Hatchback is much easier to find, especially with the CVT, and now that the 2024 models are out, and it has a real spare tire, unlike the fix a flat kit in the Acuras. Savage Geese stated this car is the best hands down in this category and price for doing everything right. This version with the CVT in this color is a serious consideration if I decide on it over the HR-V Sport in Urban Grey Pearl or a Boost Blue Civic Sport Hatchback, or a Toyota Camry SE.

    This model is a nice compromise between a 2.0 and the Si. I’ve been interested in a cheaper, simpler car, and the local dealer had a new hatchback Sport 6MT in stock. Also liked the idea of long-term reliability with the port injection engine, vs. direct injection in the 1.5L turbos. Really liked the car, but the engine was so gutless, I just couldn’t buy it. Would love to have a new Si, but prefer the hatchback design, and the Sport Touring has all the creature comforts the Si doesn’t. I also test drove a new Integra A-Spec Tech 6MT and liked it very much. But for an additional 5-6K? I don’t know. I think this is the Honda sweet spot. Almost as much power as the Si, but with a better ride and more practical for a daily driver…and almost as many features as the Integra but for thousands less.

  • @LuiEst819

    I honestly think the SI is overrated. This one has a lot more features than the SI plus the extra room in the back. The SI is mostly just for fun, but if I’m dropping that much money on a car I want something practical.

Integra cost $5k more with an ELS 3d Studio, HUD, Si engine and gear transmission, jewel eyed headlights and full led tail lights, approach door handle lights. But is it worth the $5k, not so sure specially if Acura mostly sells it at msrp while you can negotiate the Civic’s pricing much easier to get discount (here where I live in PNW)

    @@kikomanster8188 I test drove the Integra a few times and really liked it. But I wanted a lower car payment than what I’d been paying, and the Civic got me there. Had I bought the Acura my car payment would have remained about the same. I’m not saying the Acura isn’t worth the extra $5K, but for me at this time it was not. However, I like my Civic enough that I may upgrade to the Acura sooner or later!

    Discaimer - I own a '22 Si. Sport Touring Pros: (Fake) leather. I've grown to _hate_ the cloth door handles in the Si, and coming from a BMW 2-series, the seats are nowhere close to what their reputation suggests. Not especially comfortable, no lumbar support, no head support. Either act like a racing bucket (including harness holes) or stop pretending. Hatchback. Besides the extra room, the rear end of the Civic hatch is (subjectively) better looking than the sedan. (For us deprived Americans) full digital dash and heated seats. Cons: Worse resale value than the Si. 120+ pounds heavier. Lightness is _everything,_ which makes the horsepower difference that much more noticeable. They gave the A-spec more power to make up for the difference in weight compared to the Si (actual power, not manufacturer-claimed). Wheels aren't in the same ballpark as the matte black of the Si wheels, which are gorgeous. All that said, I have no doubt the sport touring is at least 95% of the fun of the Si. No regrets here, although this video did push me further in the direction of a Type S next.

    Rev match? WTF is that and why is it needed? I haven't driven a manual since the 90s, but I want one again. We just listened to the engine and learned the feel of the car. Why is rev match even a thing? Sounds like just another useless piece of tech that takes the driver out of the equation. This car could sell for 5k less if Honda made a version without a digital dash electric handbrake, electric windows, etc. I know some people want those toys added to their cars, btu given that robots build a decent portion of the car, I don't see why companies like Honda can't make these thing options like car companies did in the past. Some of us just want a good car that drives well and lasts along time. If we want a "bose sound system (not the best IMO) then we can just buy it on sale someplace and install it or have someone install it for 1/3 of what Honda charges.

    I finally found a hatchback Touring with a manual, to test drive. It was adequate at best. I wouldn't exactly call it fast, or even peppy, it was more momentous. The suspension was too soft, though, like it was artificially too soft to convince you the Si was actually sporty. It may have because the insistence of sales people to drive along with you again, now the pandemic rules are over, but the extra 200 lbs of fat guy on board, that I normally wouldn't be hauling, probably didn't help with acceleration. All in all, if the sticker price was a few thousand less, it would have been a decent deal, but at $32.5K+, it's criminally over-priced. There are too many more capable cars available at that price, and less. I guess if you're a firm belief in Honda or nothing, then sure, knock yourself out with a new Civic.
