Is the 2023 Honda Civic Hatchback a BETTER car to BUY than a Toyota Corolla?

The Civic is one of the top selling cars in the history of the automobile and Honda is still bringing it. On the outside of the Civic Sport Touring Hatch you will find optional wheels, sunroof and exhaust finishers. On the inside there are aluminum sport peddles, 9in infotainment system and largest cargo area in it's class. Under the hood is a 1.5L turbocharged inline-4 that produces 180HP & is mated to a CVT. Is the 2023 Honda Civic Hatchback a BETTER car to BUY than a Toyota Corolla?

@Steezus Christ In Canada 🇨🇦 the regulations clearly stipulate that dealers must sell at MRSP plus tax . What some of them do, example VW , on some models, Gti or R , they would roll the car few hundred miles and then sell the unit as Used car at mrsp ++( market price).Reason is obviously very low numbers of units allocated for Canada due to so called " chip shortage and part shortage ". Also Kia and not only add some crazy dealer fees reason for some clients to file official complaints, in Alberta I think. As conclusion, this is the Dealers Market, but this mess won't last forever, especially due to high interest rates . At least in ON where I reside there are Dealers like Ford and GM building inventory on the lots, prices are high and combined with the high interest rates will make lot of them to offer incentives/ discounts.

Exactly. I don't understand the point of a sedan except for maybe S class or 7 series. Its trunk space is less practical because of the three-box bodytype, with no benefit whatsoever compared to a hatchback, wagon or SUV.

@@jamisonz3365 Sedans have better chassis rigidity and noise suppression. Sedan trunks are lockable to keep your things secure and out of sight from even your passengers. • @jamisonz3365

@AnAverageHuman But the civic/Corolla or anything else hatch chassis are exactly same with the sedan version. There's no such thing as a better chassis and noise suppression. As for the lockable part, it still doesn't make much sense. The Hatchback/SUV usually have a storage plate/board that keeps the storage place out of sight. And criminals can still break through the windows of a sedan if they want.

  • @anaveragehuman2937

@@jamisonz3365 Look closer. The sedan and hatchback chassis/bodies are different. You'll see some variances in legroom, wheelbase, track, and torsional rigidity. They're based on the same platform but all major manufacturers make the platforms scalable for different applications. Objectively, the noise levels are different as well. The hatchback truck area is open to the passenger space so any noise intrusion from rear wheels has no barrier to a passengers ears. Sedans trunk area is closed off reducing a common noise intrusion vector. I'll try to give an extreme example to make my point. Given the same platform and level of noise insulation, which would be quieter, stiffer, etc? Civic based minivan or civic based coupe? I would say coupe. On the spectrum, a sedan is closer to coupe and hatchback closer to minivan. IMO of course. Maybe we should break out the gauges and meters to really settle to question haha.

Once i saw pictures of the new Honda Accord i quickly sold my Civic Hatch Sport Touring. I am now back into a 2022 Honda Accord 2.0t Sport in Sonic Grey. This Accord still amazes me still till this day even though it came out in like 2018. It totally outshines the new Accord and the new Civic in my opinion. It is so fast! I still love the new Touring Sport Civic Hatch though. Just wished they tuned it to at least 200HP but i guess they saved that for the new Integra. I do not think i would ever go back to a CVT though. I wish all companies would stop making them. That is just my opinion. Now the new Type R outshines them all! Wish they made that thing into a 10 Speed Auto with paddle but most people on here would tell me i am either stupid or crazy and whatever rude comment they can come up with lol its fine. Cheers

A Civic that costs 32k... yikes. I blame the govt for adding more and more required crashworthiness and equipment, it is making new cars so expensive, that people are sticking with way older, way more dangerous cars. An Accord should be 32k. A civic should be 20-25k. The beauty of a Japanese car is that it is status neutral; it doesn't have flash, it allows people to bypass status conversations. Honda does make cheaper models, but doesn't import them to the USA. It's tragic that the Japanese have abandoned the original segment they conquered, which was inexpensive, reliable transportation. This is a well made vehicle, Honda is the best engineered Japanese brand, but when you add the reg fees and sales tax (almost 10% here in california), this would be 35k out the door, and unsustainable high price for consumers.

Honda just brought back their entry level DX trim, and that helps a little bit, but with no Ford Escort, no Toyota Echo, no Honda Fit, etc., under 25k i can only think of the Ford Maverick, which they won't have a 3rd shift making until July 2023, and i don't expect people can order one until October 2023. With much higher interest rates, the whole bottom 25% of the USA is locked out of the new car market. That's not good for America. A car is a symbol and an expression of independence and freedom. The Chinese could bring their cheapo cars, but they aren't going to. And India has cheap cars, but isn't trying.

I have both. A 22 civic sport sedan and a 21 Corolla sport nightshade, both with cvt. I prefer the civic. Both are great cars however. The major difference is the civic is bigger and feels more premium but it also cost 4 or 5k more. The civic sport rides stiffer and handles better but the corolla is more comfortable on long drives and has less road noise. Engine wise they are both a naturally aspirated 2.0 and transmission wise they are both cvt however the corolla has a real first gear and feels quicker than the civic. The civic cvt feels smoother. Their mpg is exactly the same. The seats are softer in the corolla but I like the civic seats too. Interior wise the civic is a full step up in design and quality. Both base stereos suck. Overall the civic feels like a step up in class and size and the chassis just feels better. I rent these cars out so I would have chosen neither trim. If I bought one for myself it would either be an SI or a sport touring manual.

Dealership knows about it and says Honda is aware but there’s no fix. Also the back up camera looks like it’s out of the iPhone 3. The infotainment system lags and needs to not be touched for 3 mins when first started. Those are the flaws but rest of the car has been great. I don’t see any difference in the 2023 model

I don't have a 12 speaker Bose stereo, but I do have an 8 speaker Harmon Karden radio, navigation, and a sunroof. How Honda did not place lumbar support in a $32,000 car is outrageous. Now, does my car drive and handle as well as the Honda, I not sure. I had a 2020 Honda Civic Sport Hatchback, and that car handled and drove very well.

The Sport Civic with the 2.0L is naturally aspirated, but it's got less power than the Corolla, is direct injection only, and is still more expensive. @@xp50player The no manual thing does kind of suck. But the fact is people bitch about it, but nobody actually buys them in these types of cars. People DO want manuals (I have 3 myself) but nobody buys them to be cheap and efficient anymore. In a sports car I absolutely 100% need a manual, even in situations where the automatic option may be faster. But in a little putt putt civic, impreza, corolla, etc. Nobody cares about a manual because it will never be sporty and the reason people buy them is to get something cheap and efficient. That makes the CVT the better option. Subaru makes a far better CVT than honda these days. The NA engine in the subaru is also way more reliable than the high strung tiny little turbo engine in the hondas. The subaru will also get nearly the same MPG even while having AWD which no honda cars (not SUV or crossover) offer. All while costing a good deal less. You can keep the extra cubic foot of space. I dont need it to be a moving truck.
