Do I Regret Buying My Civic Sport Hatch 2.0 Manual? - 1 Year Ownership Review (2022-2024)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Its been 1 year since the purchase of my new daily driver, a 2023 Honda Civic Sport Hatchback, with 6 speed manual transmission. Here are my honest thoughts on the ownership experience so far, and what is in store for this car in the future.

A couple months down the line and I'm still extremely happy I got this vehicle as well. Sometimes I wish it had a bit more oomph, but that's me being greedy. I've only ever truly wanted something I can trust to get me from A to B, every day for a long time. I had an interest in the model, did some research on it and found your videos and bought the vehicle because of how much you lauded the reliability of the vehicle. And as they say, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

All the reasons you stated regarding reliability and the future of the K20C2 engine made me pounce on the opportunity to upgrade (I could see the handwriting on the wall with the hybrid coming). I also got mine with no markup (actually got a discount on MSRP), OTD just under $30k. I have nearly 4k miles on mine already and haven’t had any issues. Sorry you’ve had so many problems!

I bought this car in white because of your videos. I like it better than the Jetta it replaced. It might be the last MT car that I can buy. The day of MT or even gas engine might not be available in a decade. I don't think the 2025 will have the an MT option. 2 dealers told me they don't order MT because " nobody wants them". But when the do accept one, they sell immediately because they are so hard to find. An oxymoron since they don't last on the lot upon arrival.

@@abraham3981 I bookmarked a couple of car sites (Edmunds, CarEdge) with the filters set properly (Civic Sport Hatchback Manual) and visited them every day for almost 6 months. I also bookmarked local Honda dealer sites, but some of them don't have proper filters for manual transmission, so those wouldn't be as useful. I tracked them as they came and went, just to see how long they take to sell, with VIN and color. I wasn't going to get anything but white, and I was in no hurry as long as 2024 model year is still alive. If nothing worked out until maybe July or so, I would've contacted a dealer to see if I can order one.

Great video. I enjoyed all the ones I have seen from you. I forgot who posted the vudeos with the found solution for the water leak on the hatch. The spoiler you have looks better that the other one offered as OEM. And yes, I prefer this engine for the reliability and longevity. Even Scotty Kilmer stayed hevwould take this engine over the 1.5L turbo anyday. I originally wanted one of these in Boost Blue Pearl or Sonic Grey Pearl, snd I see quite a few here in Honolulu, but I decided that I am going to get an Urban Grey Pearl HR-V Sport. It will be just under $30K with all the OEM accessories I want, before the stealership scalping fee. I have a number of add ons I plan to put on it, but probably few performance mods, exceot fir msybe the Pedal Commander later, a K&N air filter replacement and maybe get slightly lowered stiffer Eibach coil springs if I feel it has too much body roll, but probably not. Most if the rest of add on accesories would be customization or things like a dash cam and easily installed energency lights. The most exoensive upgrade will probably be Rockford Fosgate Punch stock lostion repacement speakers and a 4x100 watt amp. I may not even need a subwoofer.

My CRV has 106,000 miles and it is smooth as silk but I am a beast on maintenance. If you change your oil every 5000 miles and CVT every 30,000 miles they will last 200,000 miles plus. I will be looking to trade in my CRV at the end of the year. Due to your vids most likely will buy the civic sport hatch. It will have to be with the CVT 🙁…..wife has no desire to learn MT. One question….how is the road noise? Had an 04 civic. Loved the car but road noise was prominent.

I was fully aware of the potential issues with the 1.5T engine but I'm 65 years old and retired and with two other vehicles, I won't be putting a lot of miles on the Integra so any engine issues should be years in the future. I also wanted to get a MT vehicle (since I've owned MTs since my first new '81 Accord hatchback) before Honda/Acura and any other automakers start discontinuing them. I watched your other videos and a lot of the dislikes for your car apply to the Integra -- especially the wiper design -- ugh.

I bought the 2024 EX turbo with CVT. I actually love how smooth and quietly it accelerates so very happy with the turbo/CVT. Its got plenty of pep to get up to speed too. Shifting again would be cool and noticed how smooth your car shifted in the video but in congested areas where I live not so much fun. Interior feels and looks well built and not cheap. Heating doesn't seem to hit the feet too well so my feet stay cold while rest heats up(minor). At first was angry at the lane assist but have learned how to use it with cruise control and its great on long trips but not totally reliable on semi sharp turns. I had the leak in the hatch but it seems to have gone away(got to check again though as haven't checked in awhile). When I shut the trunk I just give it extra ump in closing and haven't seen it again. The 2 biggest issues to me are the stereo(get the bose!) and the road noise - atrocious. Kind of upset hearing they're fixing the road noise for 2025 cause I'd enjoy the car significantly more with less road noise but still feel I made a very good choice. pd 29k, getting about 37mpg. Good luck with you Civic!

I've had my 2024 Hybrid Hatch in the Advance Spec for about 6 weeks now, With a whole load of toys, It's great, I'm driving it normally and getting around 51mpg. The Bose sound system is perfect. The only thing that's annoying is all the safety prompts alerting you all of you speeding, going over the white lines and freaking out when you are overtaking cyclists/ center line on the road. In Eco mode it tends to want to go into EV mode quite often, meaning you're saving money. Mines in Sonic Grey as well, I watched you video on fitting the rear spoiler and also fitted one using your video, I went for Berlinetta Black as this matches the black theme around the car and gives the rear more contrast. I bought it from Cox Honda online and fitted it meticulously myself. The heated Steering wheel is an awesome feature that my favorite comfort in the car, it's that good. I also watched your video on corrosion from the rear suspension bushes and arms- I've spent a lot of time protecting my Civic. I've completely coated the underside and removed all four wheel arch liners and coated theses areas with the best underseal that money can buy- Bilt Hamber Dynax SC50 and Dynax UC for all the areas underneath that are slightly visible, SC50 for everything else. The entire front end, including headlamps, 'A' pillars, lower sides and front section of the roof and loading area, Not to mention the 'B' and 'C' pillar gloss black trim that can get really swirled up with scratches has been protected with PPF using Xpel PPF. Ceramic coated the PPF with Gtechniq Halo V2. The entire rest of the car including ALL the plastics have been ceramic coated in Carpro Dquartz Go. Interior has been ceramic coated with DIY Detail Interior Ceramic, The leather seats and Steering wheel has been protected with Gtechniq Leather Guard. All the glass has been treated to Soft 99 Ultra Glaco. I've bought the best products for the car as its only a small amount more to buy thee best. I also highly recommend Gtechniq Ceramic sealant C2 version 3 as a 6 month protection that's super easy to apply after a couple of weeks when the Ceramic coatings have cured. The Sonic grey looks better then day one when it was picked up new. 264 miles in and nothing to say other then the rear spoiler I fitted hasn't bonded very well for some reason. But it's very very secure. The only area that's troubling is just in one place on the left inner section by the left corner of the glass window. So far so good. 🙌

That and 191hp vs 158hp with better fuel economy. Also the 3's engine's VVT kicks in at 3700rpm vs 6000rpm in the civic. Civic has the better trunk and rear seating area though......

Man, that’s quite a few problems actually for a Honda. Rattles in the engine bay, rattles in the dash, a leaky valve cover gasket, and a leaky hatch? That’s just unacceptable to me. Last April, I bought a new car as well, not a Honda, but a VW GTI 40th Anniversary Edition (6 speed manual). No rattles, no squeaks, no leaks. Not flawless, but close. And on short drives to our little town and back, about 31 mpg average, and on the couple longer trips I’ve made, 40 mpg. I’m glad I made the choice I did. I finally got my 2024 Civic Sport Hatch 2.0 MT6 two days ago. $27,900-$1,600+$499+tax+reg/fee. Had to get it from a further away dealer because walkable-distance-dealer don't ever seem to get MT. Dealer let me go with tires at 43psi (should be 33/32), and they didn't install the body plugs, even though it's checked in the PDI list. Heck, they didn't even leave the plugs for me to install, and when I contacted them to mail them to me, they said they need me to bring the car in. Drive an hour to get four rubber plugs? Are they f'n insane? I'm just going to a closer dealer to buy them. This is why I hold off on writing reviews. I don't think the "technician" doing the PDI even read the thing. Steering wheel is slightly off center when the car is going straight. Driver side seatbelt adjuster buzzes. Compared to my '19 Fit EX, Civic is too high class. Fit feels like a 90's budget car, raw and clanky. I actually kind of like that! Civic engine is too quiet. Even less engine braking than the Fit (L15B1). Transmission is way tighter though, so it's easier to drive than the Fit. Fit transmission is made in Philippines. Civic transmission is made in India. This latest Honda-Sensing is no match for even the 2015 EyeSight. It's terrible at temporally tracking distances and it reacts like a lousy driver when stuff happens, like someone merging in front of me. EyeSight behaves way more like a good driver. 2024 WRX would be a much better car from that perspective. I'm planning to swap the wheels/tires with Enkei RPF01 16x7 with 215/55R16. Yes, that is the same size as LX wheels. I like rubber. I'm going to sell the original wheels & tires. Waste of space. Remember, I barely put 7,700 miles on the Fit in 5 years. I absolutely didn't need the Civic. I only bought it because I was afraid it may be the last chance to get a new non-DI, non-Turbo, MT car. It's literally just another burden for me to store, drive, and maintain, as I don't even drive the Fit that much. You don't need to tell me I'm crazy, because I know.

I don't think this is a bad car at all. They did a good job with the Civic platform and the hatchback gives you more space in the same car. My friend has one, it is a solid daily commuter car, if he has some bigger weekend trips where he and his wife pack a bunch of stuff into it, the trunk has the room. It gets good gas mileage, the manual transmission is good enough for its price, the interior cabin space is good and it is very unique in its segment, only the Mazda 3 hatch compares but these two are very different in terms of size and the Golf GTI is just not a contender here due to its interior and lack of physical buttons. The Jetta GLI would be a better comparison but it is not a hatchback to it doesn't compare either. My friend was interested in all of these but ultimately chose the Civic because it is physically larger and afford so much more room and he had no interest in going for something like an A4 allroad because it just isn't worth the money brand new. The Civic saved him so much money upfront and continues to save him money as where he lives the insurance is very low.

Dealer that my friend works for on Long Island had one listed for $30k ($5k markup) on a manual sport hatch and they said they wouldn't go any lower. You said there is no other manuals in the price range, but that is not true, I ended up buying a 6 speed Jetta sport for the msrp of $24k, a year ago now. while there is some difference in looks and material quality, i was shocked to find the jetta with the new 1.5t was mor enjoyable to drive in my opinion, as well as more powerful and more fuel efficient. I feel like nobody talks about the jettas unless its a GLI and thats a shame because the sport trim level for its low price is a great option, and I have never had a single issue with mine.

That dealer is out of their mind then. They may start marking them up now with Hondas latest leaked info. No more manuals in the regular civics next year, buckle up!
