2023 Honda CB750 - Hornet Replacement

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Honda has had 8 years since the introduction of the MT07, the benchmark for this group. The question is "did they get it right after all this time"?

As I understand it, the ON/OFF throttle is a consequence of emissions standard compliance need (the fuel is cut off completely while decelerating and it's more noticeable at low speed) and it won't get "fixed" by the manufacturer. My new SV650 motor suffers the same. An ECU flash is the best solution, to my knowledge. Thank you for the vid!

When bikes have different riding modes, and variables you can change, as this bike does; will an ECU flash (if done right) take that into consideration?

as an owner, your review is excellent and spot on, on every point. it's a hoot to ride and i've added a few accessories that make 200+ mile long days in the saddle a bit more comfy for me, such as bar risers, grip puppies & an air cushion seat. I can see me keeping it for a good few years yet, and as mentioned the snatchy throttle can be a pain, and i always take extra care from a dead stop at t-junctions so i dont jump out too quickly, but i'll keep an eye out for an ecu mod as it will be the icing on the cake, as long as it doesn't deaden the wicked accelleration especially in 3rd gear that's so much fun. thanks for the review. The on-off won't be fixed by Honda because it's a compromise to fit into the Euro 5 regulations probably, it has to do with the fuel consumption at idle throttle. It can be fixed by remapping the engine for sure though, so there's that. I think this engine with a new exhaust, intake and map will probably blow the socks off anything in its weight-price class, it must be choked by regulations super hard.

I think Honda is being "tight lipped" about when it will be in the States because they don't know either. But the MT07 took some time to get to the States too, so the same is probably happening with the Hornet too. take care, Scott

I've had mine since march, done 4k miles and yes, the throttle is a bit snatchy, especially in lower gears but you soon get used to it and have to be a bit more aware and gentle, especially when at low speeds or setting off. The reason i think is the ride by wire, and other bikes suffer the same issue's, but the plusses far outweigh this small negative, such as it's really agile, & has fantastic accelleration, i love mine and this review is pretty much spot on on all points. On off throttle is a result of emissions compliance. Nothing can be done about this without loosing said compliance. They have to tune them so lean that when you open/close the throttle the engine is starved for fuel before it gets any to eliminate any possibility of unburned fuel/air mixture escaping the engine.

I brought my bike because it looked the bees knees. I just had to have it. I liked everything about it Yamaha MT-07 however over it's evolution I thought with every modification. Yea, that was the only thing I could criticize on this bike. Kawasaki, KTM, Triumph, Yamaha, even the Ducati Monster, all got the throttle response correct but Honda couldn't...hmm...my only question is why Honda? Why? A lot of OEMs fix this kind of stuff when you bring the bike in for service and they just call it a "software update" and then the "snatchy" throttle gets smoothed out...mysteriously. I hope Honda does this, soon.

@@NothingToProve I did a test ride on the hornet, first and second gear in around town/low speed is absolute torture, even in rain mode. I did a test ride because the transalp isnt available to demo yet and i wanted to get a feel for the engine, but if the transalp suffers this same horrible on/off throttle in first and second gear it will be a big pass for me.

Just that it's easier to fix in the States because you can just put a power commander on it but you can't in Europe...well you can but have to take it off every two years for emissions test, then put it back on again.

Naked bikes are fun, but how in the heck do people deal with the wind blast at anything over 40-50 mph..I find it very uncomfortable. I am re thinking what I might get next and go for wind protection or a naked bike that cost less and doesn’t go that fast.

I thought it was an interesting project, Honda had to look at the competition and also by emissions policies and the market... Here in Brazil, it was well criticized because the name Hornet is now associated with a 2-cylinder motorcycle, losing the 4-cylinder DNA the snoring of the engine, so much so that we see the old model and the competitor XJ6 used around here costing an absurd price

On Nov. 8th 2022 Suzuki officially announced the replacement for the SV650 is the 2023 GSX-8S. So, did they make another official announcement since then to counter that first announcement? And the 750 was discontinued in 2020. So it seems like you are a little behind in the news...LOL! Sorry couldn't resist teasing you. 😊 take care, Scott P.S. The SV650 is my favorite bike in this class, even for 2023, this is why I have it still in the chart, even though it's not made any more 😢

They only selling the last models in Japan exclusively. Because the Japanese appreciate a beautiful bike. Here in Europe we get the ugly models. Look at these mirrors, that headlight, the tank...the quality must be great but I wouln’d ride it, even when I get it for free.

Yea, looking back now at the video, I really didn't...hmm. I think that's because I really like the CP2 motor in the MT07. It is just so perfect, no other motor in this group comes close to it imho. Perfect torque, perfect power, perfect sound, sure it's less power than this but it's just so good that I don't care about the power difference when the motor is so good. I don't know which I'd take, I guess it'd come down to dealership and price...which one I could get the best deal on at the time...or just take the Triumph Trident...LOL! take care, Scott

@@timparish172 Yeah, your price was one of the reasons why I was interested in the first place! It seemed like crazy good value having all the bells and whistles, but sadly the situation is what it is here. The importer seems to have this idea that if it says Honda on the side, it must be more expensive than the others. Even comparing between Honda models, the price of the Hornet is the same as for the CB650R!

"2023 Honda CB750 - Still A Hornet?" Duh, NO IT ISN'T! It's a CB750 twin. Honda discontinued the Hornet 600 (599) in 2007 when they completely b'tardized the looks and changed engine completely. The true Hornets are 1998->2006 (inline 4, carb'd). Honda also discontinued the CB900F-2-7 (Hornet 900 (919) - but these are FI) in 2007 yet another story. That's not to say that the 750 twin isn't a nice bike, but it's not a Hornet. Get rid of that fugly exhaust and forward underswept headlight and tank/radiator side covers and I think it'll start looking alot better. Absolutely, most subjective, but then again, most Limeys like cucumbers (as in cucumber sandwiches).... yuck! Great presentation review and well produced video.
