2023 Honda Accord - DM Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We like sedans, and the Accord is a good one. We'd just recommend you get a lower trim with smaller wheels to maximize your sedan experience.

    I like your video approach. I own one. Couple of corrections / clarifications: 1. It does not have a CVT. Actually, it doesn't have a transmission at all. Honda calls it E-CVT. 2. You can set the regen level to remain at a certain level by pulling the left paddle until you get the level you want and hold it in. It will then regen brake at that level every time you lift the accelerator until you change it. 3. No heated wheel in US. Only Canada, eh. 4. My infotainment screen is not angled toward the passenger. 5. MPG In 1100 miles of mixed highway (70+) and city, I am averaging 43 mpg. I baby it. When the car was brand new and the weather was colder, it struggled to stay above 40. It has continued to improve. Last freeway trip of 50 miles got 44 mpg. Automakers need to understand the most hybrid buyers would prefer more sidewall on the tires and smaller wheels for improved mpg and less pothole damage!

    Atkinson cycle engines leave the intake valves open for the first part of the compression stroke. This accomplishes multiple things, but the end result is a more complete fuel burn and lower compression ration for greater efficiency

    Differences I see vs the 10th gen: + 3 inches longer +USB-C vs USB-A in the 10th gen +No more hood flutter +Bose sound system +Infotainment upgrade / screen size +Full digital cluster +Quieter interior -Tiny volume knob -No more physical radio controls -No more 2.0T/10 speed (I'm keeping mine till the world burns now that it's gone) -No more adaptive dampers -3 inches longer (car is HUGE) -Bose only on Touring trim -No more Sirius XM through satellite -Most of the tech here was already in the 10th gen (lane keep/radar cruise, blind spot, wireless android auto/Carplay, keyless entry, wireless charging, etc.) I don't see any new tech besides Google Maps and the Play Store being baked into the head unit. As others say, it's "Corporate, the car." It is "an car." Checks off all the boxes as a good sedan for the price. I do wish they kept the 2.0T though. It makes it a fun car to drive day-to-day while not returning bad MPG (~24 city, 36 highway with my driving). The 10th gen didn't have much character but the 2.0T engine did. I don't hate the 11th gen but I don't like the direction it went in. It's no longer a car with an option for someone who wants a "sporty but practical" car. It's just for a different crowd. I could recommend it to most but only if they're not looking for something fun. For me (and other 2.0T or V6 owners), this ain't it.

    I’m confused. When you did a full throttle acceleration the car's transmission made the motor boat sound, never shifting which sounded terrible. Then on another rapid acceleration test the sound of stepped gears could be heard. Why the difference? Also, I went down and sat in one, and the deal breaker for me as trivial as it may sound, was that I could not put my left arm (elbow) on the window sill as almost everyone does. It was way too high and canted down to detract people from doing this I assume. Thoughts?

  • @jbradley558

    @jbradley558

    Жыл бұрын

    The difference with the engine sound on the acceleration tests was torque braking on one test, and not the other. The simulated shifts will accelerate more slowly. So if the car senses the driver is torque braking then it will suspend the simulated shifts for best performance.

    Let it be lost on those who don’t get why this car is so good. The Touring is incredible value for money. Same price as a loaded Integra but it’s arguably more car. That said, I think the Sport or EX are a great value and probably what I would buy. This generation of a Accord (while losing the 2.0T and 10spd) is fantastic to just be in and enjoy. It’s comfortable, quiet, competent, and just a soothing place to be. But it doesn’t drive or feel like a barge. It’s an experience. The exterior design is more reserved and will age better. Interior is fantastically pragmatic. Honda is back on form.

    @@noviak4143 a E-CVT is not a CVT transmission because it does not use a belt or chain connected to a pair of variable pulleys. Instead, an eCVT uses electric motor/ generators to control the speeds of planetary gearset components. This allows the eCVT to continuously change the gear ratio, keeping the engine’s rpm in the sweet spot. Drivers of vehicles with eCVTs don’t feel the step change common to traditional automatic transmissions, yet the mechanisms (planetary gears) to achieve acceleration are largely the same.

    The problems I find with the 2023 Honda Accord which cause me to pass on getting one at the moment: 1. No All Wheel Drive is available 2. No heated steering Wheel is available 3. No spare tire is available 4. No XM Radio. If a 2023or 2024 car missing all of these features is okay by you, by all means get one. Why does the fast & fun keep coming up, it is a mid size sedan , not a Sports Car. & idk what makes it not fun now- it's plenty of power for what it's intended for & it has nice emenities...idk jus my opinion

    It is not a CVT transmission because it does not use a belt or chain connected to a pair of variable pulleys. Its closer to standard automatic then a CVT.

    With Honda's eCVT there is actually no planetary gearset or "power split device". For most driving, the car drives the wheels purly with the electric motor and the ICE just spins the generator motor. Once the car gets up to highway speeds, the ICE can directly clutch to the wheels. Search for the Honda e-drive video by WeberAuto, John has a wonderful breakdown of it.

    Drew is correct. There are no ratios being changed. It’s all simulated.

    If you can’t afford a Lexus ES300 then maybe look at the Honda. You will be happy with a Toyota, a Lexus or a Honda for reliability and they won’t empty your pockets on repairs like BMW and Audi. This Honda isn’t in the same category or level of Luxury as the Lexus. Not too liking the daisy pattern rims nor the flat rear end. Surprised you didn’t do a complete review of under the hood like others will do.
