A complete overview of the newly-redesigned 2023 Breakout Harley-Davidson. After a 2 year hiatus in north America, the popular "Chopper Style" motorcycle, the Breakout, is back and better than ever. It's now equipped with the 117 CI Milwaukee-Eight engine that produces 101 Horsepower and 123ft. lbs of torque. The Laidlaw's Crew takes the bike out and compares it to the first generation Breakout built on the older Softail Chassis. Matt goes into detail on who this motorcycle is best suited for.

Breakout is definitely one of the best bikes harley davidson has ever made next to the night rod.

The Breakout and the V-Rod are the best Harley's ever made.
Excellent decision to put the 5 gallon tank on the bike. Many riders buy the bike for everything and a 3.3 tank is a pain for long distance rides

I think the larger tank is a mistake. The bike looks better with the small tank. Unfortunately customers don’t always understand what they need and don’t need. Who is going to cruise around on this bike for 200+ miles?

The 5 gallon tank is just what that bike needed visually. I thought the smaller one was ugly on this bike. I think it looks great.

I disagree. When you view the bike from the front the larger tank sits out awkwardly
That orange looks amazing. I just purchased one in vivid black. It's my first Harley. Love my Breakout. It's a head turner

@@MattLaidlaw Yeah a while back you did a review with three different year breakouts and honestly you talked me out of getting it but this video, I absolutely love it now, that frame! And with today's technology showing the horsepower and torque ratio difference is like bragging.
Bought and still own a 19’ with the 114 motor. Best change I feel is going with the H-D chrome “swept-back” bars. Able to sit back more, and these bars give you better leverage for longer, more comfortable rides. Best bike I’ve ever owned👍🏼
Great review Matt, always enjoy your detailed analyses and was looking forward to this review as this is a bike I'm considering.
Great review, Matt. Always feel like your info is balanced and honest. Also like the background and history. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Enjoy your videos Matt. I’m 72 years old, first time I rode a motorcycle I was 15. Over the years I’ve had all kinds of motorcycles. All different brands. Currently I own two Breakouts. A 2019 with the 114 engine, I just bought the 2023 with the 117. I’ve never owened a motorcycle I’ve enjoyed riding more. Love my Breakouts!

@@gavinblak23 Find a Sportster 883, used, and have cash in hand. If it's regular transportation and you aren't going to thrash on it, look into a 2008 or newer Sportster with Fuel Injection. It will save you ton's in headaches over a carbureted model that goes to shit with E-10 gas in it, and varnishes up, needing a carb rebuild, or rejetting if you change elevations and ride up in the mountains. FI saves a lot of headaches with fuel air mixture compensation. Leave it stock, don't put noisy pipes or aftermarket air filters on it, save your money.... you can do those mods when you get much older and on a Milwaukee 8 or a Twin Cam HD.

Interesting about the horsepower figure. I remember a time when 100 HP was eye popping. That stock bike has a ton of power. I’ve always liked the Breakout. Glad HD brought it back.
Fantastic video, all the info clearly presented in one place. Awesome😎🙌. That Baja orange is a bit much for me on the baggers, but it looks beautiful on the Breakout.👌

I'm in that height range 5'8 and rode a Street Glide a few years ago, because most bikes are not only taller but wider so that makes it harder to have my feet flat for stability.I looked at the Breakout but passed because I had the SG. So you tried this new version of the Breakout or the older one?
Great review! Thank you for sharing! That bike would be my dream come true!
Good review. Thank You.
I was fortunate enough to finally come across a '13 CVO Breakout in Crimson Red several years ago and am the second owner. I absolutely love the bike and still get compliments on the paint, the wheels and the brown seat. I want to say to all the Breakout owners out there that the Metzeler ME888 260 will in fact fit!!! I'm really glad that HD decided to bring back the Breakout and look forward to giving it a look. Thanks for the detailed review.
Awesome 👌 review would definitely get one!
I remember the first iteration of this bike. I was torn between it and the dyna low rider. So, in 2008 I bought a Yamaha Raider. Price determines so much more than what I would think HD is willing to admit. Excellent video!

The best review of the Breakout that I have seen. Thanks.
Superb production value! H-D's prices aside, I've always liked the Breakout. I agree that the smaller tank looked better on there. And better late than never with the cruise control from the premium cruiser brand... Love the music and the sunset ride!
To me it always looked more drag bike style than "chopper". That orange color looks so good on that bike. The wheels are beautiful sitting or rolling
I took the breakout on a demo ride yesterday and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it 😁
Great review ! I own a 2017 breakout, and hated the new fuel tank of the latest years. Glad they fixed it, it looks way better with the bigger tank. I still find the new headlight a bit weird but i can understand why people like it. Great bike, love my 103 tho ! Won't leave it for anything.
Excellent content Matt 👍

I love the breakout. Was the bike that got me on a Harley. When I was shopping for a bike a few years back the breakout checked all my boxes I was looking for at the time and looked badazz doing it. I didn’t care for the small gas tank look and still love the sound of the twin cam over the M8, so I opted for a used low mile 13 that already had the intake and exhaust I would have put on it as well as backrest and swing arm bag. Other than LED lights and mirrors I didn’t have to do anything else to have exactly what I wanted and saved thousands in the process. I’m 6ft and about 200 and I find the breakout stock seat and all stupid comfortable. I’ve cross countried the bike and camped off it numerous times comfortably. It’s not a twisty bike and as far as I’m concerned that’s it’s only downfall, but it wasn’t designed for that. In my opinion it’s by far more than a bar bouncer that many portray it as. With all that said I did buy a street glide to take over the role of cross country trips for better capabilities on the twisties and better storage to camp off of and such. But I kept the breakout for more local riding and option for shorter trips and still camp off of it. I was super excited to see the breakout back, better than ever with the larger fuel tank and cruise. The only downfall for the breakout comeback for me anyways is the new CVO street glides and road glides. Doesn’t make any sense for Harley to totally change the styling of touring models and the new styling not trickle down to lower tier models in a year or 2. I’ve pondered a new street glide twice but not being a adrenaline junky the power of the M8 is not enough difference to get me off my 16 street glide. But I think the design teams did a awesome job with the new styling and convinced I won’t have the patience to wait for the new styling to hit the used market and will likely be my first new Harley. If the lower tier touring bikes share the VVT as well as new styling I will wait a year at least for the bugs to get worked out. By 2025 I should be able to swing a brand new SG or RG and keep my 16 SG and 13 breakout. Don’t need 3 bikes, but I have a problem of getting attached to things and can’t let them go. I find both my current bikes to be fantastic and have so many good memories covering thousands of miles on both.
Awesome job Matt, always enjoy your honest frank approach

Enjoy the bike man. The breakout is a rad machine.
I always thought the Breakout was one of the models that transitioned the best into the new generation M8 frame, and with the full size tank, it definitely looks even better! It's awesome; I'd love to own one now honestly. Putting the smaller tanks on the Softails was always kind of a gamble by HD. I think they alienate a lot of potential buyers unnecessarily. HD should try adding the larger tanks on the Street Bob/Standard and Fat Bob. It would be an easy way to change things up on those existing models. But yeah, the Breakout looks awesome with this small change! Thanks for making the great video!

Long love the TC103! They had that motor nailed down so well. After 3 years on a M8 bike .. it’s won me over tho. A cam on the 107 .. there ya go! M8.. the big block of the Harley world. How about that Baja Orange 🍊!!! What a color!!!
I love how honest you are Matt, I don’t feel like you’re just pushing Harley propaganda at me. Wish there was a dealer near me like that.
Badass little bar hopper. Well done, Harley Davidson!
Love my 2019 Breakout 114. I like it so much I’m seriously considering a 2023 Breakout 117 to have as a stablemate for my 2019.
It's been 20 years since my last bike because of young children. I found the perfect bike to fit me , being 6' 4" most Harleys i always felt cramped. In 2008 i thought the big dog K9 was going to be the bike but the economy took a crap. Just walked out of the Harley dealer purchasing a 2023 Black denim Breakout. Wow what an awesome bike. Getting some Vance and Hines pipes and sissy bar installed and we should be good to go. I might even get the forward controls extended 3" but need the rear brake control pad larger first. My shin does rub against the cleaner some but it's the best option being a taller guy. I can't wait until spring now in the north east. Thanks Matt for the review it convinced me to get riding again

Nice throwback intro! I started riding in the mid 90’s and I remember the bike scene absolutely exploding in the early 2000’s. When the Softail Deuce came out, it kind of had that factory custom vibe with the stretched tank and boat tail rear fender. I get that same factory custom vibe with the Breakout.
