    This wasn’t even a real comparison, rigged, fake. The ford and the Jeep didn’t hit in the same place, the ford was a thinner hit by about 1.5 to 2 feet. That’s going to make a big difference between what you see from the outside.

    On the Expedition page, the IIHS shows a curious still image where it looks like the test dummy’s leg was trapped inside of the crushed car. I notice they didn’t take much time to show up close just how poorly the vehicle performed and apparently amputated their dummy’s leg!

  • @fangorn40

    @fangorn40

    19 күн бұрын

    You're absolutely right. If you look again, the yellow bit is the dummy's shoe. The entire foot and ankle is completely mashed into the wheel well and dashboard. If you think how much tougher the dummy's body is in relation to a human body, I'd be surprised if a real victim of that crash ever walked normally again.

    Surprised but also not surprised to see this perform poor. It’s based on the F-150. Ford only made improvements to the F-150 over the years and not the Expedition because IIHS didn’t test full sized SUVs. Automakers cutting corners on crash safety like they did before the passenger side overlap test started (only improving the driver side). I’m sure this will be addressed with the 2025 model.

    Large SUVs like this are a bit like nuclear weapons. Once one person gets one everybody else rushes out to buy them to feel safe; now you have roads where 50% of traffic are SUVs like this or pickup trucks and other large vehicles. The worst part is these vehicles are actually quite unsafe in a vacuum because of their high mass and weaker structures, they're only "safe" if you crash into somebody else in a smaller car because the laws of physics will mean that you'll win by default just because your car is so heavy. People should stop buying these ridiculous SUVs and start buying large sedans and crossovers. German sedans like the Mercedes S-Class are 100x safer for the driver and also aren't a hazard to everyone else on the roads like pedestrians and drivers of small cars.
