    This single video actually put the CX-5 on my list. I've never actually looked at Mazda before this video. After test-driving a lot of vehicles, I went with a Volvo XC40 electric. I had some issues with it, so I told the dealer they can have it back. I forgot about Mazda again until I randomly saw a bright red CX-5 at some random car seller. My wife liked the color (can't blame her, it is a nice color) and I remembered the high safety and reliability ratings, including this video. I test-drove the CX-5 and was completely surprised by it. Physical buttons for climate control, every button feels premium, it has great handling, and feels fast enough (even though I currently drive a 400hp EV). I actually had fun driving the CX-5 and loved almost everything about it. It felt like a "sensible premium" car. Good materials, no cheap plastics, but not expensive. It is currently at the top of my list to buy, and i'm at this moment looking to buy a model that exactly matches my wishes (basically, I want all options, bright red, leather, wooden accents, 4WD) Edit: I got one! A 2.5 non-turbo ~200hp petrol AWD with all options except 360 camera

    I got T-boned in my moms RAV4 on my way to pick her up from the airport. The driver was going 50 but it was a Prius so all the damage was fairly low. This is very accurate though. He was going so fast my car spun to the side and his continued straight and hit hit another car head on. No major injuries but still very terrifying. It made me happy I was driving an SUV because the impact would’ve been a lot worse if I was in my own car which ironically, is also a Prius.

Even more interesting, when looking up the test results on the IIHS website, the forester use to get G, but the updated test now shows A. I wonder what changed? Also, we are shopping for the Subaru Ascent later this year and they are one of the few vehicles to get G ratings on every single IIHS test.

    Honda CR V maintained the position after the impact which means it had to absorb the impact by itself, while Mazda CX 5 turned its position which resulted the impact car to slide away and it means less impact to the car. This might be the result of an engineering for the side impact test. Similar result happens at the front offset test. Some cars sacrifice 20 percent of engine bay and slide away to keep the impact low to the car while some others just try to resist to the impact. The outcome is totally different.

    I recently bought a 2014 Mazda 5 mini wagon. The center post between the front and back side doors is very strong. Just like the Mazda CX5 In this video, the high rated car. Mine was made in Hiroshima Japan. In these videos it looks like the side air bags do a great job of protecting people from glass.

    Watching the side airbag deploy after impact, was a bit interesting. How many vehicles with the back passenger extended past the seat into the trunk area? (Most seemed to stop deployment right by the head rest.) Very few, but certainly looked like that helped with the back passenger. Watching the Toyota RAV not sure I would’ve wanted to have been the back passenger in that type of collision

    The problem with all cars is that manufacturers think of two things: first, more profit, second, less weight of the car to avoid high fuel consumption. Each car cabin must use two types of iron with different thickness to protect the occupants at the time of the accident, but Unfortunately, to make the door frame and even the front and rear frame and frame, they use the same alloy and thickness that they use in making the body cover, for example, to use 2 mm iron sheet for the cover and 3 to 4 mm for the car body frame to In accidents, the number of occupants will be reduced or never reduced

  • @iatsd

    @iatsd

    Жыл бұрын

    It's steel, not iron, and the thickness of that steel is less of a factor than the engineering that goes into it. 1 vs 2 side intrusion beams, for example. High tensile steel vs mild steel. Single shell design vs multi-shell design. Most cars these days are monocoque designs and the passenger cabin is almost always built with heavier steel in a space frame shell design. The body panels are not part of it and are largely irrelevant to secondary protection values.

    there is to say about the HR-V, the test version has a slightly dated frame and I think they have not revised it over time. They threw themselves on a new frame, with a questionable aesthetic that of the third series. while CR-V has a greater bulk and gives the idea of being more reinforced. Heck even my 2007 Volvo C30, which was considered very safe for its time and class of vehicle, would probably recieve a poor rating with side collisions under these tests. Side impacts were never its strong-suit, recieving either marginal or acceptable in the old tests. I do love my "old" C30, but in terms of safety it probably no longer cuts it with larger heavier vehicles on the road. edit: it recieved "good" side impact rating in the old test. However deformation is much worse there than even a lot of the new cars with the new test so RIP I guess I'll die then.

    Well on the upside, this is a newly tough test, and all things considered all of these vehicles, and their side airbags, mean that they do soooooo much better than if you applied the same speed and situation of a 1995 SUV crashing into the side of a more-common Small 1990s Sedan at 37mph. Like way better. But with increase in standards will come even safer vehicles.
