The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is an independent, nonprofit scientific and educational organization dedicated to reducing deaths, injuries and property damage from motor vehicle crashes through research and evaluation and through education of consumers, policymakers and safety professionals.
The Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) shares and supports this mission through scientific studies of insurance data representing the human and economic losses resulting from the ownership and operation of different types of vehicles and by publishing insurance loss results by vehicle make and model.
Both organizations are wholly supported by auto insurers and insurance associations.
IIHS runs vehicle crash tests and other evaluations at our state-of-the-art Vehicle Research Center. Consumers can use IIHS crash test, crash avoidance, and headlight ratings to compare vehicles when shopping for the safest car, minivan, SUV, or pickup truck.

What the HOLY HELL is to be gained by destroying this beautiful classic Chevy?? Heartbreaking.
Shame ford....in 2024 performing like that wao. A huge truck like that....hey ford with are not in 2000 remember that.
This proves that having a bigger vehicle doesn’t mean that you’ll be safe lol
Plz do Mazda Biante minivan crash test
I own a 2002 and it feels ans drives like a TANK. I named her TANK.
That’s really sad to see an old car get wasted like that 😢
Rating: You're dead.
Seems like a HD enhanced 1980s crash test

The old cars suck in crash test. However, with basic maintenance; the old car(minus a mangled collision), will LONG outlive the newer model.
That's the trade-off. The newer model dies better; but, the older model lives better. How did we get better collision technology while simultaneously loosing long-lasting craftsmanship?
Wow. That Ford clearly doesn't have the wheel deflector beem just behind the front tires. Ram and Jeep put that heavy gauge frame behind the front wheels to keep them from penetrating the cabin. That's why it does so much better in this test.
bigger doesnt always mean better
And yet everyone wants an SUV and Chevrolet is discontinuing sedans and will probably discontinue the Malibu. What a joke
You ought to be ashamed of yourself for destroying that beautiful old Belair
Notice how much better it did on the driver's side than on the passenger's side (G vs A). GM clearly did not expect a passenger side test and only engineered the driver's side to pass the test (previous-generation Grand Cherokee did the same thing with an even more pronounced difference). This is the difference between a safe vehicle (pretty much anything European, Mazda) and a vehicle designed to pass very specific tests (GM, Toyota, Honda, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Subaru). The same reason the moderate overlap rear passenger safety is Poor.
We all know which driver was playing with their cell phone and caused the "accident"!
I guess IIHS knows best but what's on display here is pretty concerning. It's not just "some buckling", when the front wheel gets pushed back the whole side of the car gets pushed in with the driver's seat getting a jolt inward. That doesn't look "good" to me, may be fine at this 40mph test but it doesn't give confidence about the car's safety in other situations.
That looks like a broken neck to me. No thanks.
I drove an Aviator and my headlights are fantastic.... best I've ever had or seen
The chevy has a A pilar that doesn't excist, so that's one of the reasons why it's unsafe.

Ford is like the Boeing of the automotive world. They proved time and time again that they don't care for safety.
This thing has the price AND the size of a house, so the least it could do is be safe.
This thing has the price AND the size of a house, so the least it could do is being safe.
You really had to do that huh?
Yay new vid
Their advertisement said it was built tough, so this is what they called tough??????
Says a lot about
Well that puts the whole.." Old cars are tougher and safer, they're made of steel!!!" argument boomers always make...
Ford wants almost $100k for this performance. Clearly it's all profit.
Never buy American. If you want a quality vehicle, go with: Japanese, German, or Chinese manufacturers.
Was with you until you said Chinese manufacturers
That’s interesting cus these same manufacturers make other models that do well when subjected to these same tests. Goes to show they don’t change until they have to.
That small overlap result is unacceptable for ford. Even for thr jeep too actually, car bended a lot.
I drive n older model truck daily and sometimes think of the consequences of an accident
70K is like 25 percent of your money and ford will take it but it will not save your life! Not worth to buy it!!!
These vehicles are a threat themselves considering they’re driven by a bunch of suburban moms who can’t drive.
Finally the BIG JERP tanked a broadside.
Nice to see that Mr. Wilson is alive and well in that Malibu
I wonder how a Maxx version of this SUV would do considering they have more weight that the safety cage has to deal with.
สภาพรถพังขนาดนี้ได้ Good เหรอ? ดูแล้วตัวรถไม่สามารถรับแรงชนที่ความเร็มสูกมากกว่าความเร็วนี้อีกแล้ว
This car saved my life from a drunk driver since then I have bought Volvo only
This explains allot. I saw the aftermath of a Mercedes E Class that had gone slightly head on into a new expedition. The E Class had crumpled but the drivers door had no damage and opened just fine. The expedition looked like it got sliced with a hot knife...i guess engineering over sheer size won that battle.
Peeled it like a grape.
What about the Toyota Sequoia or Nissan Armada? Were they not available at the time? I know the Nissan Armada is an older design and I wonder if an older design will do well?
Guess I won't be getting into classic cars then. Love all the rust chunks and dust coming off the bel air.
Grille came clean off lmao

Damn my neck
I am never going to buy a Jeep, Ford, or Chevy. No tests for Toyotas?
