The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is an independent, nonprofit scientific and educational organization dedicated to reducing deaths, injuries and property damage from motor vehicle crashes through research and evaluation and through education of consumers, policymakers and safety professionals.
The Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) shares and supports this mission through scientific studies of insurance data representing the human and economic losses resulting from the ownership and operation of different types of vehicles and by publishing insurance loss results by vehicle make and model.
Both organizations are wholly supported by auto insurers and insurance associations.
IIHS runs vehicle crash tests and other evaluations at our state-of-the-art Vehicle Research Center. Consumers can use IIHS crash test, crash avoidance, and headlight ratings to compare vehicles when shopping for the safest car, minivan, SUV, or pickup truck.

I love the music they chose. Definitely matches what I'm seeing. Imagine being the dummy in the driver's seat and hearing that.
"Understanding Car Crashes: It's Basic Physics". I disagree. Most car crashes on the road are basically idiotic human actions and reckless behavior,
Never knew a small sunroof existed in the cx90.
i swear i just want to get a job at iihs it looks so fun crash testing cars
Get an old volvo, does amazing
Consumers do not dictate how these things are designed unfortunately. Want to know why visibility has gone to shit in almost all vehicles? Because they went less glass and more reliance on tech and less reliance on the driver. I have two lifted 90s Jeeps and a lifted 90s chevy, all three have phenomenal visibility compared to my wife's ford edge.
Mazda seriously underrated
How can the Wagoneer get a marginal and the Expedition get a marginal? It certainly looks 10 times better? Sigh. It's all about sensationalism.
Japanese cars being the GOAT (Daily driving)
: )
mazda named it the cx90 so they could get the safety vibes of an xc90
You're kidding, right? It's the naming convention of their new generation of CUVs. CX-3 > CX-30. CX-5 > CX-50. CX-7 > CX-70. CX-9 > CX-90. It has nothing to do with Volvo.
: )
Yeah! GO IIHS hold these manufacturers accountable!
@ford wth? Why did you allow this to happen?
"I fEEl sAFeR in aN SuV"
So, just to be clear, IIHS knows that large SUVs are more likely to cause pedestrian “fatal injuries”; but they end the video suggesting that drivers “should consider them when shopping for a new vehicle”
This videos are so satisfying
Mazda prob gonna beat Volvo in a matter of time😅😅
i wonder how fun it is to test the cars
How the heck does this get a marginal for dummy kinetics, yet the Lexus IS test the dummy's head loaded the airbag the whole time and it gets a poor? The dummy kinetics rating seems a little rigged to me.
Just buy SUV’s from the 90’s. My 99 Yukon is a 5800 pound beast and she is running strong without any complaints
IIHS. I have a question. In the short you made there of preparing the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe it was the colour white and it was the basic model. But in this video its the colour black and not the basic package of the Tahoe. Im just wondering like. What changed.
So I see cars stopping to let people onto the roundabout. I thought the whole idea of a roundabout was so that cars don't have to stop, add the levels of confusion, and the reason why you don't have traffic accidents around about this because everybody has to come to a complete stop to figure out what the f*** is going on.
Bro what the fuck why is there so many people just saying ok
It would be nice if you guys started testing the color temperature and glare of new vehicle headlights. The cold white LEDs that everyone is using are absolutely horrible to drive with, and horrible to deal with when they're coming at you! The cold white absolutely destroys your night vision... Whether you are the driver, or someone with the cold white headlights is coming at you... I wish to God that they were completely outlawed... I'm fed up with being blinded with them, and I have had the misfortune of having to drive a vehicle equipped with them... Whenever possible, I have to remove or alter them so that they are a warmer color temperature so that I can actually see at night. They are also absolutely USELESS in any kind of inclement weather... Driving in snow is basically impossible, especially heavy wet snow... Driving in the rain is like driving into the black abyss. All the light is absorbed by the road and what tiny amount makes it back to your eyes makes it even more difficult to see
I have 2 of these, one a 2012 2.4L & a 2009 RalliArt and ive always felt super safe in them. Im impressed with these results. Good stuff
Yalandi inanmayin🤣
Wow. no crack or broken on the side window. good job tesla model y👏👍🎉❤😊
😢
We had a T-bone crash today and went 360, the other car ran a red light. Our car is an Accord Sport 2022, and Thank God no one is hurt badly. We were still walking out of the car, and grateful all parties involve have no major injuries.
now let's do the right side
Why is this a good rating? Dummy movement should be acceptable, not good.
Poor, just like the build quality
The problem with the front offset crash test is that an oncoming vehicle would also travel at 35 mph so the test should really be done at 70 to be accurate.
The driver broke his neck.......
first comment in 13 years lol
Im willing to take those risks it is my life in jeopardy after all
It really depends how and where you crash and a lot of cars are modded so yeah
OnStar detect in the Chevy
What's with the audience --- are these tests open to the public?
Kia Sedona I have a 2012 also a 2021
Dw3
Soccer mom tanks
Bro the people at Isuzu can’t make anything right. Poor poor and marginal 💀
I actually have a 2009 Chevy Malibu, and seeing it get into a crash makes me feel a little bit better because the test model in the malibu was barely touched. Glad to know I have a car with a decent crash rating test.
🫂
That's why lc 200 is better ☺️
My dream car TBH
Now why don't you talk about what these things to to the occupants of other vehicles in collisions?
What it’s not a minivan
"I should spend more to get this bigger car to make my family safer." Narrator - "The bigger car was, in fact, a waste of money, safer for nobody, and a menace to society."
