Happy to help! I try not to watch too many other reviews so I can form my own opinions. I also got a few good tips from some redditors that own mk8s. Definitely one of those systems that just has a bit of a learning curve. Thanks for watching!

I like mine. Never understood the hate for the system. It’s just something new to get used to.

Yeah, it's just new and different, so it takes some time to figure out. If you don't take the time, then you're going to hate it, but if you just go through the menus for a few minutes, you'll realize the usefulness. Glad you're liking yours!

This review is great! Thank you for taking the time to show and explain the infotainment and all the touch-sensitive buttons. I've watched so many GTI reviews and everyone just whines and complains about that stuff but never explain why. You have proven there is nothing to complain about! And you just gained a subscriber :-)

Thank you, much appreciated! Yeah, when things are completely new, people are a little too quick to throw it out the window. It's definitely not perfect, but it's also been overblown in a lot of the reviews.

@@JCTiggs1 happy to help! Yeah, from everyone I've talked to (even people that were super anti going into it) have said it doesn't bother them that much. It certainly has its flaws, but it's been way overblown.

@@GearboxCarReviews I was hoping to find a Golf R but it seems the dealers in my region won't have any for the next year (all are spoken for). I was lucky to find a GTI that had a cancelation on the deposit so I put a hold on it until it arrives. I generally prefer rwd or awd cars but hoping the GTI will be good enough for my needs (I hate torque steer and wheel hop).

@@JCTiggs1 yeah, with the market the way it is it seems the only way to get an R is to build and wait or hope that someone cancels. I still haven't driven the R yet, but quite a few of the people in my GTI groups that have had both seem to like the GTI better.

Great review. I just picked up my 2022 GTI today. Like you said, I don’t know why everyone is a slamming the infotainment system… just takes some time to get used to it. The car itself is amazing to drive… super planted, great steering

Thanks man! Congrats on the car! Yeah, it's just new and different. It's not perfect, but once you figure it out, it's got some cool features. And yeah, it drives really nicely! The mk7 drove well already and this one drives very noticeably better.

Great video! Whenever I cant sleep, i just put this video and within minutes I fall right to sleep.

Totally cool if it's not your thing. Some people don't want the jumping, over-excited about everything KZreadr, they just want the info.

I'm still considering one. The only thing I adjust while driving is volume, temp I put on Auto. So I probably would be fine with the touch screens. It's how a car drives that counts anyway. Good review, thanks.

Thanks! Yeah, I think the volume wouldn't be too bad if you use the controls on the steering wheel. And it drives great! The only thing I didn't like was the hill hold, but otherwise, it's a big improvement over the mk7 in terms of driving, and the mk7 was already pretty good.

Thanks for this review. Appreciate the deep dive and also like your low key delivery. I recently picked up my MK8 going from a MK7.5. Getting used to the menus but as you say it’s not bad. Takes some getting used to. One thing I do wish is that it would let me update driving options with the car off instead of having to do this with the car idling. Also not sure if I can save all custom settings and recall at start up with a single short cut.

Any time! Congrats on the new car! There is a startup settings menu that you can use to set everything that will happen on startup basically. I don't remember exactly what's in it at this point though. Is that what you mean?

I have one MK8, GTI S (which has buttons for volume and readio station frequency)- with GTI plaid seats and a 6-speed manual gearbox. The car is brilliant, if you don't buy this car just because it's higher tech compared to the previous generations, promise you, it wil be a huge mistake. Also, it feels way more than just 241 crank horse power.

Its a great car, my only gripe is the auto start/stop, which takes a while to boot up... if the software gets updated in the future will be excellent. Great informative video, thanks!

You just put the auto start/stop on your fave list. Then you just take your finger & push the icon. It’s simple. And, something I’ve not seen any reviewer or dealership talk about is how great the car does at low speed, bumper to bumper, adaptive cruze control. Its fantastic. Just tried it today.

Great video! I just picked up a mk8, and love the screen. But I cant figure out how to have a full screen display of the Sirius xm, it’s just that little screen that’s with the navigation. Am I missing something?

Just traded my 7.5 for an 8, S base trim. They added more piano black 😢 The info system is great. It’s super easy to learn. I’m perfectly comfortable with it just after two days. Sure, there’s a few things I still want to figure out. But the basics are great. The reviewers are just being absolutely silly. Oh. The 2023 got rid of the sliders. So I don’t know anything about them. I love the touch capacitive buttons and actually think they shouldn’t get rid of them. I definitely don’t want the knobs back. The clean dash is too nice.

The S trim has a slightly different interior from the SE and Autobahn. I know the volume/hvac knobs are still part of the S, but I don't think they got rid of the sliders on the other trims as of yet. Either way though, really glad to hear you learned your system quickly and you're loving it! Congrats and enjoy the new car!

@@Herbole015 ​ If you pull the map up in the main infotainment screen, there should be a menu button (three lines across in a circle). When you click that, there's a "show map in cluster" option.

Yes i know i already tried it a couple times.. I dont get the 'show map in cluster option'. I think it need to be coded..

@@Herbole015 Interesting, yeah it looks like maybe some of the earlier ones might not have had that option. I think you're right, it might need to be coded. I'd check with the dealer and see if there's a software update that enables it.

The physical manual/book is good when the screen goes down, and internet is bad.
