You need to put more gas input and keep it in. Let the system work distributing power to the wheels with grip.

Exactly this ☺️, probably does not have proper locking differentials so it will use the brakes to lock up the wheels without traction, but then you first need to allow the car to figure out where to do so which it only will if you actually keep the pedal down. A bit contra intuitive to a proper off-road vehicle setup but it probably could get through that small hassle by just keep giving it continued gas input.

These XC90s really shine in the snow, in fact in Sweden they use either these or Range Rovers only as recovery vehicles. Volvos are engineered for snow more than dirt and mud.

Please, inform yourself about how to test the car before to create this false content that will mislead people on taking decisions on which car to buy. I work as a tester in Volvo Sweden for Phev and Bev vehicles and this car is capable of much more if you know how to use it. As another people wrote in the comments, you need to keep the gas longer meanwhile wheels are spinning so the car can have time to figure out which wheel should break to send the torque to the wheel with grip. This works the same for all the car that don’t have a locking differential. Good luck with your next reviews!!

Hi David, can XC90 T8 drive in AWD all the way w/o worrying Li-ion battery running out? ( acceptable using gas to charge the battery as long as the recharge speed is quicker than rear motor's power consumption. Thanks if you can give some feedback :)

Can you guys just step on the gas. Tired of watching videos of people driving off-road and not stepping well on the gas pedal, then their car gets stuck. Cars are not eggs that break. Step on the damn pedal, they're meant for driving.

Buddy of mine takes his on some gnarly stuff. Replaced the tires but other than that, it's stock. Zero issues. Granted, he has decades of off-road experience on two- and four-wheels. I don't know how much formal experience you have off-pavement, but there are a some decent schools here and there. Could be worth a film, maybe trade some creative for a class? Thanks for putting this together and I'll look forward to subsequent videos.

At 2:25, the reason it does not show actual pressure is that it does not know. The TPM is so called iTPM - Indirect TPM. It alerts based on differences between the current status and the stored baseline.

Hello, thanks for sharing. My question is after seeing drive-train video (not a lot of real detail), various images and now your video -- seems like the Volvo system loses AWD when the PHEV battery runs out? As far as I can tell, there is no drive shaft from engine to the back axel, only the Electric Motor? In the US we can have 600 mile stretches (or more) of icy & snow roads, would defeat the purpose of having a Volvo AWD, for safety in those cases. Even if keeps a reserve, it will run out at some point. Also a thought is if Electric Only mode, on winter streets is Rear-Wheel Drive only? Were your back wheels spinning when stuck, it didn't seem like it?

You gave up too easy on this one. The car will put the power on the tire that needs it but you have to let it spin for 3-4 seconds. Let the Haldex system do its job and you will see how the car continues to move without issue.

I'm shopping the Subaru Ascent vs the Volvo XC90 T8 AWD Recharge Extended Range. I'm having a hard time deciding, but the poor dirt/offroad performance of the Volvo has me leaning towards the Subaru. I live in the PNW, lots of rain/dirt/hills/snow driving here. I have a 2004 Subaru WRX Wagon that would just plow through all of those roads in the video above without problem. Kind of a bummer to see the Volvo struggle so much.

Have gone through 4 Subarus and made the jump to this car, with the intent of using it to tow a Polaris Rzr for the reckless things I did in the Subarus (Jeep only trails without a full size spare. I was young and dumb). I have total confidence in this car on dirt roads and snow.

Yes boys & girls Ben learned the hard lesson that XC means Cross Country on asphalt, not through Moab to get to CA. There are several good reasons why the Jeep Wrangler with Rubicon pkg. and the Bronco Badlands w/ Sasquatch pkg are built. Goes Over ALL Terrain :) This unfortunately is one prime example.

I saw another you tuber do this and found he just needed to let it slowly figure out which wheels to put the power after what seems like just losing traction but be patient it will get you out. Starting at 12:20 in this video below stick with it and he figures it out at 16:30 where he has a similar situation to Ben. kzread.info/dash/bejne/n2uuqtybpsnLddY.html
