I've had mine for 6 months now, and I love it. It's such a good jack-of-all-trades 1 car all-weather solution. I've driven it in every weather imaginable, on gravel, in stop-and-go traffic, on a 4 hour freeway drive loaded with camping supplies, etc. and it's been great in every situation. It's not a sideways fun machine or a muscle car, so I'd still like a Miata/BRZ and an old Mustang/Camaro, but it's nice having a car I can drive all the time, it's always fun to drive, and it doesn't matter what the roads are like if I need to get moving it's more than happy to do so.

Love~ your thoughts on this haha. I'm currently into my 3rd week or so of owning the CVT version of the WRX and I really do love this car. That said... I'm just a casual car enthusiast and in honesty am in no way a car girl or anything special like that haha. I know from friends that the WRX definitely has a stereotype/culture of being for more serious car lovers like for those into car specs/modding and those who believe in manual driving etc... but imo the WRX is amazing~ for those who are casual yet still want a practical yet really fun car. It's kinda what you mentioned with the WRX being a middle ground of sorts with being a daily driver car while still being sporty and fun haha. I'm also the few who thinks this car is gorgeous... it has such an aggressive look without looking super exotic and standing out too much. And the plastic claddings to me add a nice contrast look of the car body itself versus the black claddings... but as someone who again is a first time sport car owner and as someone who's still casual at heart this might just be me. Anyway~ it's an amazing car for those who still want practicality such as AWD and lots of room but also some fun. Like even for the CVT version... the engine still sounds great... it still feels incredibly powerful. Sure it may not be as fast as my friend's BMW M4 for example but... I'm not looking to be that~ fast. I know this is a crazy opinion but I feel like the 2022 WRX is meant for that middle ground demographic... basically drivers who want a sporty car but with the practicality of a daily driver and one that will get them through rain and snow and~ yet still give you the dopamine rush of hearing that engine and the fun feel it has when driving. And besides although I haven't used it yet personally... it does come with that manual mode in the CVT form for those who still want to have some control and extra fun. My only complaint is especially when compared to my previous car... the WRX using only premium fuel along with not being that fuel efficient was something I wish I accounted for haha. I mean I can afford it and all but it is~ shocking how much fuel expenses costs now and more so with the increasing gas prices these days. But hey~ that's a price I'm literally willing to pay for how much joy I get every day driving this and embarrassingly even when parking in the garage I always get that joy of like... that's my baby haha. Amazing and affordable sports car for those who want a really practical car that's still fun. If you're more serious though... I bet there are other options that might be better suitable but coming from a casual driver who wanted more fun in her drives... I can't recommend the WRX enough.

CVTs hamper performance and sometimes mpg as well. It may not be the case in WRXs, I haven't looked it up. I say this because you say "believe in manual driving" as if it was some sort of crazy religion. But it does have tangible advantages compared to CVTs and older automatic transmissions. Of course manual is far less comfortable especially in cities.

4/26/2022 this is the second day driving mine, with 40 miles on it. I have not gone full throttle yet. I want to run it 1K, oil change, then test it. Back story, I have never owned a WRX so I have nothing to go off of. Today was the first traffic jam and no issues, finding the right distance and gear works. The low end torque makes it livable with a stick. The ride is bouncy on a Michigan road, although it can take it. I wish the seats were wider at the back for wide lats. Suspension has softened over the 40 miles. The seating issue is a personal matter. I will not give up heated seats for sportiness.

There are quite a number of similarities like how the symmetrical AWD eliminates the torque steer, how the car accelerates with ease, how it is very enjoyable to drive. My Impreza is very much like the Civic, in which it is an economy car first, then something sporty after that. My Impreza has a lower power than the Civic as well, but my enjoyment in driving my Impreza is almost equal to how Tedward drives his Civic. It was an insightful review with how the 2022 WRX has the enjoyable quality in tact like the Civic.

As an ex-owner of a Bugeye WRX and a current owner of a 2015 Civic Si, I immediately noticed how quick that steering rack looks. Looks pretty sporty in that regard. Honestly, the new WRX looks like a good, fun package, as it always has been. But since the GR Corolla has been announced, it just seems outdated. Like, I don't imagine this does ANYTHING better than the GR Corolla, and with the new STI Cancelled, Subaru just seems like they are being outclassed in their own game, without even an attempt to fight back. If they were able to tune out the understeer in the WRX, had a center diff that could put at least 70% of the power to the rear, and worked a bit on that steering feel, I may actually consider it in 2022. But as it stands... It's just 2008's best economy sports sedan

@@k.i.s.s.. two words why the 22+ wrx is the dumbest purchase ever: GR Corolla The wrx has open diffs, janky full time 50/50 awd, numb brake by wire that don’t communicate to your foot when you’re boiling your fluid or starting your baby brakes on fire. The GR Corolla whips the 22+ wrx in every measureable way. Also it has LSD’s, and a great rear bias but variable awd system. If you don’t know what limited slip diffs and rear-bias awd systems are, and you don’t know what steering and brake feel are, and you don’t know what a good engine sounds like, and you don’t know what a good looking car is: then the 22+ wrx may be for you 😂

I dont even mind the wheel arches, they look line something porsche would do on their off road models.

Tedward wonderfully said.. All points were very valid, Sir. And as history has shown us, each and every iteration which has come out of the WRX/STI, people tend to bash for a while, then come to the conclusion that they love it no matter what. I personally have loved Subaru as a brand for a long, long time(Decades), and as a result still love our 2020 STI(Yes, stock, no modded like 99% of these kids).

@7:24 I think part of the dwindling sales of manual transmissions has to do with how crappy many modern manual transmissions feel with rev hang, plasticky feeling shifts, vague clutch pedal etc. That’s a big part of the reason I bought a ‘22 WRX with the manual as it’s one of the few good manuals out there now.

The wrx was on my list during my search and I test drove it. I enjoyed it, but I was confused why you couldn’t get the top trim with a manual transmission. It’s unfortunate because it seems every car I looked at in this segment had that one big head scratcher that prevented it from being perfect and it would have been so easy for them to knock it out of the park

i just bought a crosstrek with a 6 speed manual..... i know it's not fast but it does get exceptional gas mileage. the shifter is straight out of this car, i think quite a bit of the drivetrain is from the WRX...... the driveline is quite a bit stronger then the CVT i manage to get 32.8 MPG with my 2022 crosstrek 2.0 manual, way better then what the EPA rates it at. we have allot of hills here, so if it was flat and level im confident i would get even more mileage. very happy with my car so far. i still have my lightly modded 2003 bonneville SSEi as a play thing.... remember those? they arent very common anymore. 3800 supercharged

I ordered a '21 Crosstrek Limited last August with the 2.4. Much improved power than the 2.0 .... its still no killer power plant, but it serves its purpose for what I bought it for. I'm at about 32.4 - 32.6 mpg in mixed city & highway driving. Its got some added weight to it also, with full undercarriage rust proofing. I woulda liked the 2.4 to be an option with the manual, but its not. We're good though, we have 2 manual vehicles to tool around in.

Great point of view....review! I really like this color and unlike alot of others I don't have an issue with the flender flares. I think they work . I'm not crazy about the rear end but still I don't see is as an issue. This car is just so dang fun to drive and it feels so sure footed especially in the rain and you can really manhandle it. As well the further lifted suspension compared to the outgoing generation is also a super plus. I honestly don't like the massive touchscreen tablet. I would rather a smaller one and more dials and or switches. Too bad you couldn't have taken it down some dirt roads. :)

I think each gen of the WRX/STI is beautiful in its own way. For me the 2010 Hatch and 2021 STI are my two favorites. This new design almost made me vomit the first time I saw the tail end and wheel arches....But over the past couple weeks of looking at it, it has really grown on me! I hope to put a down payment on a 22, either black, dark grey or silver I think. Gonna go with the Limited model as I really want the Harmon Kardon sound system. Might even have them add the short throw shifter, STI exhaust and light up badges as well.

with so much trunk space and rear leg room people could expect this wrx to be particularly long, if for some reason they're also expecting it to have an inline 4 under the hood in a longitudinal configuration.
