2022 Polaris Sportsman XP1000 S Owners are PI$$ED!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The 2022 Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 S was released in July, but the Scrambler XP 1000 S didn't come out until the January. Now Sportsman S are pissed, here's why.

Video missed a key piece of information about how when the 2022 first came out, all sales data noted the bike came with the Walker Evans suspension. I think that is the ultimate problem. Between their promotional documentation and in their website product data, the bike highlighted that it came with the Walker Evans suspension. If this isn't false advertising, I don't know what is.

Now THAT is interesting. There are websites which archive past web pages. If someone will press the issue, they could retrieve the advertisement web page. If that date is found to be the same or later than the date at which a person made their purchase, it's an open and shut case. They could take that to small claims court and FORCE Polaris to provide the product as advertised (a set of 4 Walker Evans shocks)

  • @gregparrott

@@fasteddie737 That disclaimer follows the paradigm..."The big print giveth. The small print taketh away" As slimy as it is, it just might work for Polaris. But not necessarily. If in addition to the photo, the ad boasts the Walker Evans shocks, but in some remote corner, Polaris posted a small disclaimer, a judge may consider it deceptive and NOT grant the defendant such protection. I faced this once, contested it in small claims. I not only won, the judge verbally admonished their representative.

All owners who feel cheated and lied to by Polaris regarding the lack of Walker Evans shocks. We need to start a class action lawsuit. I have reached out to Polaris regarding the missing shocks. I ordered this unit there were no machines to go see at a dealer the 2021 has the W.E. shocks. They lied and claimed that they notified our dealers and those of us who had pre-ordered these units. My dealer or myself received any notice. Polaris told me that they were not offering recalls or cash value of the missing W.E's. I will post this on every forum, Facebook and KZread media I can. Thank you for shedding light on this. I have a 22 and purchased scrambler shocks. Expensive yes, let’s see what Polaris does. I agree the plan is for the scrambler to have the suspension and the sportsman to have the other features. It does put a gap between the models but the worst part is the 22 was originally advertised with walker evans.

Sad part is, people are still buying these machines in high volume regardless of the price. Polaris keeps raising the prices because they can. But they're all doing that. Its to the point that even some 500 class machines are getting close to $10k. Honda is also bad at this, pricing something like the 520cc Rubicon the same as a Grizzly or Brute Force and those machines completely outshine the Rubicon in performance.

Having worked at a polaris/ arctic crap shop for a few years I can say without a doubt the atv and sxs are cheaply built with cheap parts and sold like they are made of unobtainium, now the snow machines on the other hand are top notch...except the 800 without the engine fix kit. I have a 22 polaris rmk pro 155 but as for wheelers Ive got 2 outlanders, one is a BUILT and faaaaaar from stock 1000r ( I like power and a lot of it) and a dps 570 for my daughter. The reason for this is parts availability (oem and aftermarket in SPADES), they are stupid tough, reliable, pretty easy to work on and modify, they both ride like clouds and were very resonably priced for what they were. Brp wheelers are a better machine in just about every aspect. Dont even get me started on arctic cat, I could go on for DAYS.

My 3 biggest gripes about the can am wheelers. 1. the visco lok cuz its shit, e lockers were standard on the grizzly since 2001. Whay is can am 21 yrs behind the curve? 2. the primary. Ive have yet to see any other company put out a primary where both sheeves can move independantly of eachother in eith direction and cause uneven belt wear. I'll add another gripe as an owner of a 2015 XP 1000...shoddy honoring of their extended (5 year) warranty option. A little over a year after purchase, it started developing symptoms resembling vapor lock after an hour of use. Over the next 4 years, I repeatedly brought this to the dealer, and was repeatedly told that unless they could replicate the problem, Polaris would not cover replacement of parts under warranty. Understandably, the dealers were not able to replicate it, as it took roughly an hour of riding for the symptom to appear. I can also understand why Polaris would only want to cover replacement for documented problems. But, here's where Polaris F'd with their customers. 1) The problem had been reported as far back as the introduction of the XP in 2009, yet Polaris failed to correct the design/manufacture by 2015 2) Dealers I spoke with in multiple states knew of and had reported the fuel pump problem for YEARS. Yet Polaris would not honor replacement unless the dealer replicated the problem. Being an intermittent issue that required a LOT of time and actual in-field riding to achieve, this essentially never occurred. Polaris knew the problem and exploited 'replication' clause rather than fess up and replace the pump until they FINALLY got around to fixing the design/manufacturing defect. 3) A friend owns two 2018 XP 850s and BOTH had the same problem within a year. One even had the problem occur a SECOND TIME, less than a year after replacing the original pump. 4) One dealer was so fed up with the Polaris pump that he REBUILDS the pump with more reliable, aftermarket motor/pump components, and does so for less money than replacing the pump with a new, Polaris OEM pump. 5) Polaris does not have a fuel pressure sender. If it had one, an error code could easily document existence of the issue. In my case, after FOUR YEARS of recurring problems and expiration of my 5 year extended warranty, I said 'replace the goddamn fuel pump - at my expense'. Problem solved. When my friend's XP developed the same problem, I recounted my experience and lack of warranty coverage. He used his relation with the dealer (bought 5 ATVs and one UTV) along with threat of a lawsuit to FORCE the pump be replaced at no cost to him. Some owners of RZR UTVs have reported similar fuel pump issues, even to the extent that one carries a spare pump. For anyone reading this, the end takeaway is if your unit starts stumbling after it's thoroughly warmed up (say 40+ minutes of riding) as though its running out of fuel or has vapor lock, go through the regular motions of looking for an empty tank and bad gas. But if the problem persists and you're still within warranty, cut the 'replication' bullshit. DEMAND, DEMAD, DEMAND that Polaris replace the fuel pump. Polaris has failed to address a critical problem for OVER A DECADE. It's past time to force the issue.

@@NuclearT3acup Having parts go through the firewall? Yikes! As for the other things you mentioned, yeah I had a lot of those as well. Shifting was extremely difficult, in part because the idle speed is computer controlled and CANNOT be programmed below ~1150 RPM. But at that speed the clutch tended to engage - not enough for the vehicle to roll, but just enough to cause shifting to bind. To address this, I sometimes had to turn the engine OFF in order to shift. I also tried blipping the throttle, letting it slow down gradually and attempting to shift just before it came to a dead stop, rocking the quad front-to-back to unload the gears. Most of the time, these did not work. Eventually, the shift lever broke from all the struggling. The clutch was replaced. That helped a little, but did not solve it. Heat? Yeah, same here. My plastic was replaced THREE TIMES because the plastic melted, leaving a hole near my right thigh. Twice, some jury rigged heat shield was attempted. On the third, Polaris finally issued a recall and created a decent heat shield. But part of this problem is due to poor placement of the muffler. It is located in the right rear wheel well, about 0.75 inches from the tire carcass. The tire's sidewall can get too hot to touch. This location also precludes the use of tire chains, which I own and have used on earlier ATVs, including a 2009 Polaris XP850, which I later traded in for the 2015 XP1000) Build quality...It seems OK, but I was rudely awakened at less than 100 miles, when one of the front brake calipers FELL OFF, lodged between the wheel and A-arm, and snapped the halfshaft. Fortunately, I was going slow enough so as not to be thrown from the quad. The mounting bolts had not been tightened/secured and had fallen out Power Steering...It has been reliable. But it has a lot of play and leads to a vague, skittish feeling at speed. I discovered this on the show room, even before buying my 2009 XP. I compares both the power steering and manual steering (standard in 2009) versions, both with the engine off and on. The play was MUCH more noticeable on the power steering version. My 2011 Can Am has power steering as well. It is much tighter and more precise, in part because it uses a different sensing technique for power assist. Polaris sells more ATVs and UTVs than any other manufacturer. Based on volume and time in the industry they should be in position to have both economies of scale and enough first hand experience to either prevent, or at least promptly resolve issues. But this fuel pump issue in the XP's existed from the first year (2009), all the way through the 2018 my friend has (by 2020, failed three times on 2 machines). That Polaris not only failed to solve it in a decade's time, but also failed to issue recalls and even kept dodging replacing it under warranty is BY FAR my biggest gripe. I prefer the Polaris suspension. But the Can Am gets my nod for a replacement, perhaps next year. What I would REALLY like to see is Honda FINALLY coming out with a big bore. Their ~1000CC 'Africa Twin' engine from their adventure bike was modified for use their 'Pioneer', and possibly the 'Talon' UTV as well. If they made a variant of that engine for an ATV, with Hi/Lo range, a locking front differential, and good ground clearance, I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

This sounds like my experience with Harley Davidson. Had some major head work done right before warranty expired. (Took almost 2 years and 4 dealerships before someone tried to fix it). Issue still persisted. Felt like I was forced into a $1,800 extended warranty. Which I ended up just paying. 4 months later, blown transmission. $6,000 fix and almost 3 months in the shop. All said and done, I’ve had $10,000 worth of warranty work before 25k miles... dealerships, the brand, the whole experience has me turning my back on the brand. I think an issue is that these companies are bidding out their parts and engine parts to the lowest bidder. Not sure where Polaris is made, but I assume they claim the US. But 40% of the engine is made in China or something like that. Anyways lol

I also want to say, our group of riding friends is like Dirt Obsexxion. We are ATV guys, and love the riding experience of an ATV. So, I even kept my OG XP 1000 because I was so hesitant about how I would like the S, and I knew I couldn’t replace it now with supply issues. I even asked Polaris why they decided to move away from Walker Evans, and the customer support person told me they won’t disclose why they do what they do. In saying that though, I’ve got about 80 miles on it on first ride in December and can honestly say, it’s SICK. It took me a minute to get used to the lines, but after I did I was riding it like a banshee. It did not have any of the body roll and front end dive like the previous Walker Evans model. It was flat and super flickable and would EAT terrain. Great points though! Still think Polaris could bring it on few more things for an $17k machine.

I liked the old school scrambler. Was much smaller and lighter than the utility 4x4 machines. Only complaint was the chain drive, hated that. Would rather have added a few lbs for shaft drive to eliminate the chain and get a few more inches of ground clearance. I've said for years if Polaris offered a scrambler 570, they would sell the crap out of them. The 850 and 1000 cost too much for many people to consider buying. And this was before the prices got inflated to where they are now.

Another issue with the 2022 S is there was quite a run of them with mis-wired LED headlights. Polaris wired them with the halogen harness, the factory installed version of their LED lights and an adapter that was only partially compatible that came from the accessory LED light kit. So, while the LEDs do function, they don't function correctly. The halo LEDs don't function as a DRL like they are supposed to and in the lower pods, one projector never comes on. Like with the Walker Evans shock issue, Polaris is offering a $500 conciliation coupon code to buyers who got their machines wired wrong. I wonder if it's an either/or thing as I have both deficiencies. There is an aftermarket harness that will make the lights function as they should but it's $175 and will chew up a good portion of their "good will" $500 coupon...

@@DirtObseXXion I agree. From reading on the forums, I knew about the issue before taking delivery of mine. I asked my dealer to contact Polaris if mine came in wired incorrectly. They did and were told despite the lights not functioning as advertised, they did still work and that no warranty repair was authorized. They blamed the issue on my unit being an "early model year build." This made little sense since some units delivered before mine were wired correctly. Moving forward, folks have now reported that their machines are once again wired correctly so it would appear it was a temporary shortage. Polaris has been sending a form email with the above mentioned coupon code to owners with affected machines. This email states: "As you have seen, Polaris has been experiencing severe supply chain delays causing longer‑than‑normal lead times on our vehicles and accessories. In an effort to ship your Sportsman XP 1000 S as quickly as possible, a wiring harness deviation was made that impacts the LED headlights. While the headlights are fully functional, you may notice the accent lights and low beam projectors operate differently compared to other Sportsman vehicles. We realize that while well intended, this deviation may not fully meet your expectations and would like to offer you up to $500 towards Polaris parts, garments, or accessories*. Your unique coupon code is located below and can be used at any authorized Polaris dealership. Simply show this letter to your dealership and they will process the discount upon purchase." If you don't get the email, the coupon will also show up if you log into your Polaris owner account. Click the home tab and the coupon/offer will appear in the upper right hand corner of your screen. I haven't seen the Walker Evans shock coupon/offer yet. I'll be contacting my dealer about it today...

So I ordered a 22 sportsman s will be here next Friday. Yes I find it super annoying it won't have waller evans but it's not really a deal breaker for me. I am going to be doing mostly trail riding so I think I would've went with the sportsman over the scrambler anyways because of just the more features on the sportsman. All led headlights, winch, 3rd taillight, 2in hitch receiver, huge rack capacity. I just feel like the sportsman has a lot more practicality than the scrambler

@@DirtObseXXion ya I definitely agree with that the price is pretty crazy anyways. 18,369 out the door taxes and fees included. Definitely super annoying because it's really a machine of its own class you can't get from anywhere else so even tho I think the price is way high especially with the lower quality suspension there's really no alternatives at this class

Replaced all brake pads at 800 miles they were completely shot. The wheel bearings were shot at 942 miles and I avoid mud puddles. After 4 months the steering shaft and linkage had as much slop as a 98 dodge truck.
