2022 Mayo Clinic Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) Research Findings

The latest research findings with Drs. Sharonne Hayes and Marysia S. Tweet from the Mayo Clinic SCAD (Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection) Research Program.
Many healthcare providers do not recognize chest pain in women as a SCAD (Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection) heart attack. It is misdiagnosed as anxiety attack, gastritis, and takotsubo (broken heart) syndrome. Please share this video with any woman who has had chest pain whose cause has been attributed to stress, panic attack or some other non-specific cause.
At www.scadresearch.org/about/ are links to three flyers, one for patients, one for emergency room personnel, and one for EMTs. Consider sharing them with any healthcare professionals or emergency responders you know.

I'm not a doctor. I have talked to many people about their treatments after SCAD heart attacks. Some of them stop taking medications. Some of them do not. There is unfortunately no easy answer. But the MOST important thing for you to do is to find a healthcare provider who is familiar with SCAD. The ones who misdiagnosed my late wife as gastritis and possible Takotsubo ("broken heart") syndrome were not familiar with SCAD. This is the best resource I know of, Mayo Clinic's Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) Research Program. See more about them at www.mayo.edu/research/centers-programs/spontaneous-coronary-artery-dissection-scad/about. Good luck and do not allow anyone to tell you that they cannot tell you for sure what is causing your problems.

I should add that many of the 38 women who tell about their SCAD heart attacks and treatment in this video playlist discuss the medications they took and are still on. kzread.info/dash/bejne/kaB-ksGzitGaqbg.html If you view a video on KZread page there is an ellipsis link ("...") just below the bottom right of the video pane. Click this and chooose "Show transcript" to see the text. You can use Ctrl-F on a desktop to search through the transcript and go right to a section. For example search for "aspirin" and you will see any occurrences of the word, and can click the line to play that part of the video.

I am a male and just had SCAD at 48. I have great blood pressure, low cholesterol, heart rate was in the 30’s to 40’s, refused the Covid vaccine, ran 6 days a week, and lifted weights 5 days a week. I am 5’9” and weigh about 135. I was the only male patient that my hospital had seen this happen to.

My mother had 2 heart attacks 7 years ago and recently suffered a scad heart attack and tore 4 arteries. She is seeing a specialist but not until October, recent scan results show that her blood pressure is low and her heart isn’t pumping properly. We’re all extremely worried :(
