2022 LDV T60 Max review: Dual cab ute off road test in Australia - better than a GWM Cannon Ute?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The LDV T60 is one of the most in-demand dual cab utes on the market in Australia - and this updated, facelifted T60 Max model is sure to turn a few heads, too.
Having carved itself a position in the market as an alternative to the likes of the GWM Cannon Ute and the Mitsubishi Triton, the made-in-China budget-focused double cab pickup truck has now seen its most significant update since launching here in 2017.
With a bold new look, additional technology, revised pricing and a new punchy turbo diesel engine, we've tested the new 2022 LDV T60 Max on-road and off-road, with Marcus "Crafty" Craft giving you the skinny on what you need to know.
Is it a competitor? Does it actually look good in the metal? And should you consider one, given all the issues with new car stock at the time of its launch in November 2021? Watch the video for all the answers.

Same here in Aus. I saw a 2018 hilux with over 100,000 for $39,000 you can pickup a 2022 Luxe for that price. Everyone is comparing these LDV to brand new Toyotas but it’s comparing apples to oranges. Obviously the Toyota is a better Ute, but for the price LDV looks like a very good option

I'm a Ford Ranger convert to LDV, had the 2020 Luxe Megatub 1st, I've now got the 2023 Max Luxe... The Max Luxe is a great ute & great value. Much better ute than the previous model, I just can't bring myself to spending $70k odd to get a Ford or a Toyota. It's well worth a look & drive... Then you can decide. Ps: The 2023 is a tad over $43k Drive away however is had a cosmetic upgrade making it more sporty, 19" wheels in black, side steps, sail style bar, paddle gear change of the wheel... It just looks great & handles better. The bottom end hole on acceleration is easily fixed by a throttle control installed by the dealer for around $400... LDV should make it a standard feature & it'll be game over on the performance side.

I wanna get one but im seeing alot of positive and negative comments about them, so it has me sitting on the fence. I have driven one an apart from the lag when taking off (but like you said with the control module it can be fixed) I couldn't fault it for anything else, but in saying that I only drove it 3 times so just needing some reassurance, cheers mate.

No side steps, roof rails, sports bar, AEB, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control (and other safety tech), Android Auto, front parking sensors, limited warranty and low resolution cameras in a ute that costs 40k is an absolute joke. So the 2023 comes with side steps, roof rails and still has 160kw which is 40 more than the dozy Cannon. A new V6 ranger costs double what the LDV costs so im not sure how you think 40K is an absolute joke. It also comes with a ZF 8 spd and a BW trans axle. Here is something else for nothing, Saic Motors supplied most the parts for the Holden Colorado and the LDV engine is built in Thailand just like nearly every other over priced ute these days. One last thing, if you need front parking sensors you should probably be driving a Suzuki Swift.

At the very quick first glance on the thumbnail, I thought this is an updated Toyota Hilux. I don't trust the Chinese cars, not over Japanese, German or Korean, well-established brands. Never trust the CCP. Excellent, well-made review, Carsguide! I like the fact that you increased the frequency of posting the car review videos! Keep it up!

Cannon is a far better ute than this. It's better built, has far more safety, more tech and nicer interior and exterior layouts. Cannon also has a larger fuel tank and better fuel economy. The engine isn't as good as the new T60 on paper but in every day driving it does everything it needs to and you don't feel like you're lacking power.

How is there turbo lag with a sequential turbo set up? That is lazy engineering from SAIC Motors, also using a self lock rear differential is dumb, might as well just offer a mechanical LSD instead.

That makes threats against Australia. Wants to invade Taiwan. Has over a million Uighurs in concentrations camps. So love your T60 all you want. But know who you are supporting when you are "loving it". You won't be loving it so much when your children or grandchildren have to march off to war.
